  1. I went around selling some potions I made; potions I made to level up my alchemy skill. I'm up to level 90 in alchemy, and I was only at about a few thousand gold, and I went selling the potions and poisons. Soon I was up to around 59,000 gold. Alchemy is a great way to make a lot of money.

Whatever way you decide to make money, OP, invest some perks into speechcraft. If you put a perk point into "Merchant" you will be able to sell any kind of item to any kind of merchant (except stolen items). If you invest in investor (put a perk into "investor"), you can offer merchants 500 gold and it will permanently give them more gold to barter with (not all merchants can be invested with, but many can). If you put a perk into "Fence", you can sell stolen goods to any merchant you have invested in.

  2. Like people have been saying. Alchemy and Enchanting are the way to go. I usually smith some jewelry, enchant it, make some potions, and then travel all across Skyrim selling my wares to all the merchant folk. Also, there's a mod which increases bounty values/rewards that seems much more reasonable then in vanilla.

Does anyone know the name of the higher bounty mod?

  3. Tell your friend that the PC version is still the one to get because of all the other mods, not just graphical mods.

That's what I think too, but I can see the other point of view, that with the 360 you can just play the game without worring about updating drivers, other software conflicts, etc even before considering mods, which can break other things, cause SR to crash, etc. It's certainly been exhausting installing all the mods myself and not what I'd consider fun, although I'm pleased with the end result.

I'd still say that the PC version is the way to go. I have played console games most of my life and I really dig the ease and accessibility of console gaming. I'm starting to get into PC gaming, and thankfully it is more accessible these days. In regards to Skyrim, your friend can use an XBox 360 controller for it, the Nexus Mod Manager has made modding for an elder scrolls game easier than ever, and the end result really is worth it. The PC version of Skyrim is so much better than the console versions because of the mods, and the mods have just started flowing. In time, the amount of quality mods you'll be able to choose from will be impressive.

  4. I think we should ask in the mod talk section if anyone would like to work on a mod that improves game play for thieves. We can start compiling some of the ideas found in this thread and present them to modders in the mod talk section.

    So far, some good ideas:

    - Lockpicking, pickpocketing, and checking inventory (like chests) happens in real time

    - Lock picks are harder to find, but don't break as easily

Two I'd like to add is:

    - After a certain amount of time, people you pickpocket from will start carrying new coin purses and valuables, if you have already stolen them from them. This will make it easier for thieves to make money (instead of tapping everyone dry).

    - After a certain amount of time, strong boxes that you have stolen from will have more valuables placed back into them (again, ensuring thieves don't tap dry a source of money after just one hit).

I just had another good idea. Perhaps you could steal particular things from the inventories of merchants, and after stealing these things enough times (they respawn over time), the merchants will pay more gold if you sell the same kind of item to them, because you lessened or depleted their stock of said items. So if you go into a blacksmith and steal enough steel swords (which are on display), after a few to a several times of that, that merchant will pay significantly more for steel swords if you sell them to them.

What do you guys say? Do you guys want to start compiling some ideas for a better "thief mod" and then we can present it to the mod community? In that thread, we can talk with modders to find out which of our ideas are more feasible than others, because I'm sure some of our ideas might be hard to make possible, or can't be made possible.

EDIT: Should we try to compile ideas in this thread, or should I just start a thread in the mod talk section and try to pool together ideas from there? What do some of you guys say? We don't even know if anyone will want to work on such a mod, and this is just an idea I had of some of us coming up with ideas for a better thief mod, so I am quick to look for other people's input on this.

  5. I am thinking of making a character the uses conjured weapons. I was thinking of making her someone who gets elven armor early on, and then eventually moves up to glass armor, and would have her use one-handed weapons and a shield (or maybe dual wielding), as well as use a bow that is a bound weapon that she summons. I want to use the bow for the occasional stealth attacks and for fighting dragons when they are not on the ground. I want to use a mod to help make the bound weapon bow more powerful.

I was wondering, do things like rings or circlets that fortify marksman affect the power of the attack from bound bows? Would fortify marksman potions do the same? If such things can affect bound weapons, I might just go with bound weapons only and skip physical weapons.

If things like circlets, rings, and potions don't increase the attack power of bound weapons, could I still do really well with bound weapons if I get the better bound weapons mod and the PPE (plentiful perks expanded) mod?

Are there potions or mods that allow for a bound weapon to stay around longer? I don't want to use the permanent bound weapon mod.

  6. I wanted to install Sounds of Skyrim, both the "The Wilds" version and "Dungeons" version. I use NMM. I installed The Wilds, and went to install Dungeons, and when trying to install the second one, it gives a message and yes, no, or cancel as my options. If I click yes, it cancels out the first one. If I click no, it will try to have both mods installed, but it will replace files. I can select different options, including "yes to all" and "no to all". I know this happens sometimes with mods on NMM. My question is, what do I want to select? "Yes to all" or "No to all"?
  7. Make sure yo are launching with the skse option in nmm. The mod won't work if you don't.

Or launch skse before launching skyrim.

This will probably be the solution. How do you launch with the skse option in NMM?

I figured out how to do that, but the DLL won't work. I deleted the dll and exe files. I'm going to try redownloading it.

  8. I decided to give this mod a shot, but it seems it isn't working. It said I need the latest version of SKSE before I installed the mod, and I made the mistake of installing the mod (via NMM) first. I uninstalled the mod and installed the latest version of SKSE, and then tried installing the mod again, but it seems like it isn't working.

I have smithing at 100, so I tried bringing the smithing level to 101, but the level meter for smithing wouldn't budge. Same for pickpocket (also at 100).

My guesses are that I screwed things up with this mod because I didn't install it after having SKSE, or I installed SKSE wrong. I copied the .exe and .dll files from SKSE from the zip file to my Skyrim folder. I think I did it right. I do have script dragon and I don't know if the two conflict or not.

My only other guess is that I have a mod that conflicts with it.

  9. I never quite understood why lockpicks are so brittle to begin with. Having had to pick a few locks from time to time (nothing illegal, mind you...I'm just forever misplacing my lockbox key) I can tell you from personal experience that just about the only way you'd ever break a lockpick/paperclip/bobby pin/bent wire IRL is if they were made of glass. The whole thing is just silly.

It is a gameplay mechanic. To make it so that lockpicking involves some challange and isn't just very easy. The idea is to make it more fun via challenge instead of it being "Oh, you can pick every lock without any problem, every time".

  10. Tell your friend that the PC version is still the one to get because of all the other mods, not just graphical mods.

I know nothing about the Radeon 6450, so I can't help the person who is looking for input on that, but I recommend they write a post telling us what their GPU is (including RAM), their CPU is, how much system RAM they have, and what OS they are using.

  11. I've known about this issue for a long time but never pursued fixing it before. So, if I hold down F8 when restarting or starting my computer, to go to the different boot options (I forget the term), it will bring up the option to start the computer in safe mode, as well as present other useful things to choose. However, whenever I get to that screen, the keyboard doesn't work and I can't use the arrow keys and I can't use the esc key. I think I might be able to use the enter key (I can't recall on that one), but I'd only be able to select whatever the selection is by default on that screen.

I've had this computer for two years and I think this problem has been there for two years. I've never had to really use that screen or safe mode before, so that is why I've never addressed this issue before. But I was thinking, I should solve this issue because I could very well need to use that screen at some point.

Anyone know if this problem is unheard of? I hope not. I'd like to know what I can do to correct the situation.

  12. if your alchemy is high enough, you can make potions that cost 500+. get the 48 hour wait mod.

buy all ingredient, sell all your potions, wait 48 hours, repeat.

What is the 48 hour mod?

To the OP, are you going to make your charcter good at alchemy, or enchanting? If you put perks into alchemy (a significant amount) in due time you will be able to sell some potions and poisons for 200 to 2000 gold a piece. Even early on, you'll be able to sell some potions and poisons for several hundred gold pieces a piece. Enchanting items can make money, if you have good perks in it.

But make the type of character you want. What type of character are you going for, anyway? Even if you did a warrior who excels in smithing, you can make good money with it, just not as much as alchemy and enchanting. Also, if you want to play a thief character, you can make good money. If you play as a thief, you can pickpocket people and sell them to a merchant that is a fence (means they accept stolen goods). You get a fence when you join the thieves guild. There is a perk in Speechcraft that allows you to get fence merchants with merchants you invest in.

  13. I install the latest AMD drivers and then remembered that I had to uninstall the old GPU drivers first. I went to double check and sure enough I was supposed to uninstall old drivers first.

So, is this really harmful to my computer? Or can I fix this issue pretty easily? What do I do from here? Do I simply go and uninstall the drivers and then reinstall the latest drivers and that will work things out?

I'm a bit worried this problem won't be real easy to fix. : -\

I'm kind of new to PC gaming and before getting this PC I have now, on my old PC I never updated GPU drivers (I didn't game on it).
