  1.

i am not really as lost a cause as i maybe made myself out to be. i have nipped it in the bud so to speak. i simply felt some impulse and need to disclose it to a skyrim community.

I figured you weren't that bad, but I still wanted to give advice with an air of urgency, in hopes that my advice and others advice in this thread would help you redirect things so that they didn't persist or worsen.

  2. Nightingale Bow. Period.

Even if you just stick with the Vanilla one and don't have a mod to craft a custom enchanted version, it's pretty bad ass if you take the time to improve it.

ATM my one does over 300 damage per hit, plus another 50 Fire and Another 50 Shock. (100 Smithing + 100 Enchanting is awesome :P)

I can pretty much one shot anything that isn't a Dragon

How do you get the Nightingale Bow?

  3. How far back does that save go, the one that you said is now gone? Have you made a lot of progress since then? Have you checked some saves before this one particular save, as well?

Hopefully someone can help you and you don't have to go to a much earlier save. Have you installed any mods right around the time this problem occurred? Any affecting followers?

I know it can be frustrating with how this game can be sometimes. I've had to go to earlier saves a number of times due to buginess.

  4. I highly suspect she ran off with M'aiq the Liar. Ladies do like the fuzzy ones.

In all seriousness, have you tried going to an earlier save? You can try to get help from people here, but if all else fails, you should be able to go to an earlier save and she'll be with you at an earlier save, right? Try finding the most recent old save where she is still with you, and tell us if you've made a lot of progress in between then and your last save.

  5. I'll probably just end up going around with two bows. One will be powerful, the other will be lighter. I'd like to use a lighter bow most times because, when tempered, it'll get the job done most times, and also, I want something with a fast or somewhat fast firing rate. Plus a weaker bow will help make the game a bit more challenging.

Now that I think about it, I can do fine with a weaker bow anyways. I'm big into alchemy, so I carry around a good amount of fortify marksman potions wherever I go, and also, I have some fortify marksman enchanted bracers I bought, and I am seeking out a helmet with fortify marksman (looking to buy one).

That ranger armor looks nice. I have a mod for scout armor, so I'll check out the ranger armor, but might stay with the scout get-up.

Ferodaktyl, those formulas for finding dps for bows have me kind of lost (math was my weak subject in school). Plus I don't want to calculate the damage including perks and so forth.

Here is some stats for three light/kind of light bows:

Hunting Bow - Base damage: 7 Speed: 0.94

Orcish Bow - Base damage: 10 Speed: 0.81

Dwarven Bow - Base damage: 12 Speed: 0.75

Does anybody know how to calculate damage per second based solely on the factors of Base damage and speed?

Also, in that UESPWiki link, it has stats for the Nord Hero Bow (base damage of 11 and speed of 0.88), and that seems very ideal for what I'm looking for, but it says it isn't able to be tempered. Here is what it says in a footnote:

"The Nord Hero Bow cannot be tempered. Its tempering entry (TemperWeaponSkyforgeBow) incorrectly links to the Nord Hero Battle Axe instead of the bow."

Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet? I'd go after a Nord Hero Bow if I knew it could be tempered.

  6. Does anybody know how to calculate dps for bows in Skyrim? Or does anybody have a link which has the dps values for bows in Skyrim? I'm thinking of either going with hunting bows, elven bows, or dwarven bows.
  7. Tell us how things go for you in the coming week. Maybe sharing with us how you've managed your priorities can be useful. If you end up playing more than you should, we can continue to give positive encouragement to manage your priorities better. You can still play the game sometimes and enjoy the game, but we just want you to take our advice and make sure your important duties and real life relationships take precedence over this game and any video game.
  8. My advice to you is to really think hard about these things and discipline yourself to take care of important real life things first and not have Skyrim as primary in your life. I think Skyrim is a really good game, but you have to focus on these important real life things first. Period.

Your girlfriend whom you said is great? Spend more time with her. Don't take her for granted; not one bit. Reduce the time spent on Skyrim significantly, and spend more time with your wonderful girlfriend and your job. That is the other very important thing. Do put more effort and time into your job. The last thing you want is to jeopardize or even lose your source of income and means to support yourself over a video game. And do take better care of your pets. They depend on you and need you to take care of them throughout the day, every day.

I know Skyrim is a good game that is addicting, but you really have to change things drastically and put your important things in life first and Skyrim after those things. If you don't, in due time, you could lose some important things (like your job and girlfriend) all because you didn't enforce some proper discipline in your life, and then you'll really be feeling bad, causing undue suffering for yourself. This post is stern in nature, but I'm only trying to give you good advice. You can still play and enjoy the game, you just have to get your priorities straight. It is better to get your priorities straight sooner than later. You don't want your addiction to this game to spiral out of control (which does happen to some people with video games sometimes). Nip this problem in the bud before you are really regretting you didn't just exercise some proper restraint and discipline earlier on.

  9. Nightingale Armor from Thieves Guild, Shrouded Armor from Dark Brotherhood.

Besides, you could always enchant them yourself of pay the guy at the College of Winterhold to enchant them for you.

Which guy at the college of winterhold enchants items for a price? Could it be any item? Do you have to do a quest before this is made available to you? I'd like to have some things enchanted without putting the perks into enchanting (I don't want to enchant that many things).

  10. Can anyone confirm whether paralyze poison ever works on dragons? The few times I've tried it was resisted.

I would post some recipes for some helpful potions and poisons, but some people might not like to see them. However, it seems like you aren't too interested in pursuing putting perk points into alchemy. I'd like to help you out. Would you like me to PM you some useful potion and poison recipes? If you plan to use some alchemy, I would recommend putting some perk points into its skill tree, though.

  11. It could be worse. I was having a problem where about 85% of the time I entered her shop, the game would crash to desktop in about 10-100 seconds, usually at the shorter end of the spectrum. That went on for a good long while. Then the problem seemed to go away. But by then, I didn't need the shop like I did when the problem occurred (when I was having the problem was when I used her alchemy lab a lot and I could get training from her).
  12. Pretty ghetto, yes. Like the name of that mod - inelegant.

Thanks but no thanks - I'll wait until there's a proper way to simply "unchoose" my perks (giving me back my perk "points") so I can use the regular game to assign them again.

I am just curious, do you want to respec nearly all your perks? If so, I could see why you'd want to pass on that inconvenient way of reallocating perks. I had changed a handful of perks around before; it wasn't bad when with a handful of perks to reassign.

  13. I was talking to my wife/companion hroki in a cave, handing her some items to carry, and somehow we triggered a trap where boulders fall from the ceiling while not moving at all. A big rock falls on her head and she yells ahhh! and does that animation that essential followers do where they fall down for awhile. A one hit KO. It was so unexpected like a random pie in the face in a comedy, I couldnt stop laughing.

If you marry Hroki, will she greet you and say things to you? I know you have to marry her via the command console. Also, will she move to Breezehome if you ask her to?

Man, I'm waiting for a polygamy mod. XD

  14. I didn't really know what people meant by anime mods, so I looked them up. I was expecting to find characters that were cel shaded and had big anime eyes, but from the mods I found, I didn't find any of such mods, so from what I know of anime mods, they aren't as bad as I thought they were, or as bad as people make them out to be. They still aren't for me, but I don't see what the big fuss is about.
  15. I am playing a character that is a cross between a thief and a ranger/scout type character. Alchemy can help you a lot (I have many perks in alchemy). Also, let me tell you, alchemy is a great way to make money in Skyrim. Once you are good with alchemy, you can make dozens of potions, many that range in price from 200 septims a piece to over 2300 a piece. And of course, you can easily make dozens of each potion/poison if you have the ingredients. You can invest in some of the perks at the beginning of the Alchemy tree (there are 5). You can invest in all 5, if you want. Then there is a perk for increasing the potency of healing potions, a perk for increasing the potency of all beneficial potions (like healing potions, resist fire potions, and resist frost potions, for example), and a perk for increasing the potency of poisons. Read more here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Alchemy

Investing some perks in Alchemy is a good way to make your thief character a more fearsome fighter. What you could do, if you don't want to pursue getting alchemy to 100 and getting the best perks, is invest some perks into it and raising your Alchemy level to at least 60 sometime soon. You could get the perks "physician", "benefactor", and "poisoner" and if you don't want to put all 5 perk points into the first part of the skill tree, "Alchemist", you could put perk points into two or three of them and then buy fortify alchemy items. Check out this list of generic magic apparel in Skyrim. The fortify alchemy apparel just so happens to be at the very top. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Generic_Magic_Apparel

One great place to get fortify alchemy apparel is Radiant Raiment in Solitude. If you don't know where that is, it is really simple. Enter Solitude and the first shop on the right is Radiant Raiment. You can also find fortify alchemy gauntlets from different blacksmiths, too. Just make sure to equip the fortify alchemy apparel before making your potions.

With potent poisons, and the concentrated poison perk (when coating a weapon with poison, it will last for two hits instead of just one), you can do some good damage when you want to. There is a poison you can make that, and this is what I remember from it when I had only some of the perks and my alchemy wasn't yet at 100, so it can get significantly more powerful than this - so anyway, this poison did 59 points of damage plus 12 points of damage per second for 10 seconds (so 179 points of damage in 10 seconds), plus the damage from your weapon. With the concentrated poison perk, one unit of that poison lasts for two hits.

So alchemy is a possibility for you. You could just put more perks into your archery, but Alchemy makes for a more interesting and fun way to play and make your character better, I think. Plus, you will be able to make potent health potions and resist fire and resist frost potions, as well as other good poisons (like paralysis and slow potions). Slow poisons come in handy. They make your enemies move at half speed, and the duration is significantly more than paralysis poisons made with the same perks and at the same alchemy skill level. Plus, you can combine the two ingredients that make slow poisons with a damage health ingredient to make a poison that slows an opponent by 50% and deals some damage, too. Also, I don't believe paralysis poisons work on dragons, but slow poisons do.

You could put perks into archery if you want. Maybe just the ones that increase the damage rating of bows and arrows. Oh yeah, also, you can create fortify marksman potions. With all the right perks and with your alchemy at 100, fortify marksman potions increase the damage from your bow by 60%.

  16. How many perks are you looking to change for your character? Most of them? Half of them? Less than those?

You could use the console command. It really isn't that bad once you get used to it. Just know it isn't very quick or convenient if you want to change several or many perks. But it gets the job done. Here is a video that shows you how to do it. Put it at max resolution and full screen so you can see the console command text.

Watch the video until you understand what you have to do, and then give it a shot with some perks. It is a pretty ghetto way to respec, I know, but like I said, once you get used to it, it really isn't all that bad.

  17. I don't get it either. I do like anime. I have liked it since the 90s. But I don't care to play through Skyrim with an anime type character mod since the graphical style of Skyrim is so different from those mods. I might download some anime mods just to see what they are like, but I don't plan on playing through any of the quest lines with an anime-esque character.

I think it would be awesome if there was an elder scrolls type game made by a Japanese company; something with cel shaded graphics, something looking like Dragon Quest VIII (but with better graphics since that is a 2005 game).

  18. Thanks for all the advice, guys.

I do have a character in mind that is like a cross between battle mage and spellsword, although I'd like to use maces. I could put perk points into another one handed weapon type, maybe axes or maybe swords. As fun as dual wielding could be, maybe it isn't needed. The possibilities I was thinking of is going around with a shield and a one-handed weapon, a shield and spells in the other hand, and weapon in one hand and spell in the other. I would only really end up going with two out of three of those often, I would assume.

I get excited thinking of the different types of characters I can create using perks. I'd like to get into dual wielding with a character, I was thinking of creating a character that dual wields daggers, and then I could wear some gauntlets that fortify one-handed (ones I buy as oppose to putting perks into enchanting), and then I could get the alchemy perk for concentrated poisions (poisons last for two hits instead of one), so when I want to do some serious damage, I coat both daggers with poison, and with four hits, I do four times the damgae of the dagger, plus four times the damage of a poison (and some poisons are really powerful, too). That is one type of character I could make, along with the battle mage/spellsword type, and Illusion Thief.

  19. Actually, I'm not into conjuration magic. I think I will go for light armor even though there are good weapons from ebony and daedric smithing. I just downloaded a crafting mod, and it just so happens to have dragon bone weapon crafting, which I'm guessing is better than glass weapons. I'm still not sure if I want to pursue dual wielding. It only costs two perk points for the two perks, so I might as well go for it. I'm not sure which magic skills I'll invest heavily in. It might just be destruction. To use less magicka, I was planning on using healing potions to heal myself.

How should I level up magicka, health, and stamina? Let's say that I will only use destruction spells for most spells, and rely mostly on potions for healing, then how should I upgrade magicka, health, and stamina? Should I try to keep all three about even?

I am giving it some thought to make this type of character excel in restoration and destruction magic. Potions come in handy, but it might be nice to change things up even more with this type of character (since I use a lot of alchemy with my stealthy scout character).

  20. My first character that I'm playing as currently is a Nord woman who is somewhere in between a thief and a scout/ranger (I dunno if scouts and rangers are all that different). I'm really enjoying this type of character. I was thinking for a second character of choosing between an Illusion thief or a battle mage, but in this thread I'll seek advice on making a good battle mage character.

I wanted to make a battle mage using a female character, so I was thinking that having her use Elven and Glass armor would be more fitting than the use of heavy armor. I prefer light armor, and I think a female battle mage in Elven and Glass armor would possess more finesse. Would it be a good idea to make a battle mage with proficiency in light armor? Should I use heavy armor early in the game and switch to Elven and Glass armor when I can upgrade them via smithing?

I was thinking of choosing a Breton or an Altmer. Is Altmer the better choice due to the extra 50 points in magicka? Can you still make a really good battle mage with a Breton? What other races are good for battle mages? If I choose light armor, should I go with a shield and then one-handed weapons or destruction spells in the other hand, as opposed to dual wielding? I think dual wielding could be fun, but so could going around with a shield and casting spells or a shield and a mace, so I might put perk points into block, the mace perks, and dual wielding perks. Another question, for destruction magic, I was thinking of going with a proficiency in shock magic. Is that my best bet? In order to heal myself, I was thinking of putting perks into alchemy, but really for just healing potions and a few other potions; not really poisons (which I use with my Nord character).

Thank you to anyone who can help me with some of these questions. Do you think I could make a pretty good battle mage with those types of proficiencies? What could I change to make a better battle mage? I'd like to avoid using enchanting, as that can easily make the game very easy.

  21. I do have a Scout armor and weapon mod with a powerful scout bow. I have to find out if it has a high dps rating. But it is more powerful than a daedric bow. I'd like to use that later on in the game. I'm picking up my game from a much earlier save, and would like to make use of light bows for awhile. I'd rather not use a combat enhancer mod. I don't want to make the game too easy.

I'm finding that I can make a very capable character when she has lots of perks in Archery and Alchemy. I'll use sneak attacks with the bow when I can, and with alchemy, it can be very useful, including the poisons (there is the perk where one unit of poison lasts for two hits, too) and defensive potions, like fortify light armor, resist fire, and resist magic. And then I can make great restore health potions, too.

I'm going to put many perks into Archery and Alchemy, some in Sneak, and then some in speech (to help make making money easier), light armor (to up my armor rating), and pickpocket. The only smithing perk I need for scout weapons is Steel, and the scout armor is leather smithing, so I won't need perks in the light armor side of smithing. I don't want to do enchanting perks. At first I thought it was great, but high quality enchanted items that can be stacked makes the game very easy. With a lot of perks in Alchemy and Archery, I'll be a very capable hero. :) The only other perks I might invest in will be to up blocking effeciency and one handed weapon damage perks.
