  1. I just recalled that there are some items that if you get more than one of, you can't get them out of your inventory. You can't sell them, put them into chests, or drop them. Let us compile which items in Skyrim have this glitch. I know that one of them is a certain magical staff, correct? One of them is the amulet of Talos, as well, right?

Also, are there any mods which correct these issues?

  2. Mjoll the Lioness brings her boyfriend along and that's going to spoil you "all girl" party. :D Also she quits after he dies - definitely not very professional of her.

Ah, the beauty of the PC version and it's mods. :D There are mods to make that guy that follows her (I forgot his name) go away and never follow her again. So you can marry her and not worry about the creeper being there as she and your character sleep at night. :P

If Mjoll loses all her health, will she crawl away and recover health like Lydia? Or will she just die, and I'll have to reload the game if I wanna keep her in my game?

  3. Hello. I have some inquires about Wyre Bash and BOSS, as I still don't understand load order too well. I would just use Nexus Mod Manager, but I got a new computer and I forgot my password for NMM (it is the same password for this site, but I used a Firefox tool that transferred my Firefox saved passwords to the new computer). So what I'm doing is finding out which mods I want are on Steam Workshop. Getting many via Steam Workshop will make things easier for me. Still, there are a good number of mods I want that I'll have to do manual installs of.

I should mention that I did a fresh install of Skyrim on this computer, and will start a new game with a new character.I looked at a general guideline for load order. I will try to do manual installs in a certain order. What I'd like to know is, once I get my Steam Workshop mods subscribed and once I do the manual installations, will using Wyre Bash automatically create the correct load order for me, in case I do the load order incorrectly? Is that how Wyre Bash works? Is it the same with BOSS?

I really don't know much about load order, so I'll appreciate the help I'll get.

  4. I want to use two mods that alter Mjoll the Lioness. One will change her skeletal animations and make her walk like a female instead of a man. That is all the mod changes. The other mod will remove the warpaint and the scar on her face. That is all the mod will do.

Will I be able to have both these mods in use for this NPC? Or will they conflict? The person who made the different animations mod says his mod will conflict with any other mods that change Mjoll the Lioness, but I have a feeling this isn't true for every mod that alters her.

  5. Interesting! While you won't be Godlike playing that way I suppose being practically invulnerable gets boring after a while. Investing in speech is absolutely essential because traders carry so little gold. Maybe you should get yourself a Foresworn bow; a tough Nord adventurer like yourself will have met and defeated quite a few of these rebels in her adventures.

It won't make my character very powerful, but I'll be able to manage, especially on normal difficulty. Also, I can always get Mjoll the Lioness to go with me for hard dungeons, and I can bring Lydia along as well, if I need another follower. Also, something else that will make it not so hard for me is a mod that modifies the speech tree. It has perks that give you benefits to dragon shouts (a 2-tier perk set that has better shout cooldowns and a perk that makes shouts 30% more powerful/last 30% longer (one or both, depending on the shout). Here is the mod. I will definitely be putting perks into speech because of this mod. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18919

One way you can free up some perk points is to embrace your "criminal" past and do just the Thieves Guild Special Jobs. This basically makes putting points into Speech unnecessary. Basically starting the game filling in the gaps of your questionable past before doing anything else. Go straight to Riften, do just the Special Jobs and the hold Reputation quests and thats it - don't advance the TG main quest at all (i.e. don't do the Goldenglow Estate job). Once you've opened up the fences then travel to Riverwood and start your post chopping block life - born again after seeing your life flash before you.

I've done this before and never stepped foot in the TG Headquarters again.

You don't get all the fences as there are a couple that require advancing the main TG questline, but you get enough that moving merchandise for the rest of the game shouldn't be a problem since all will have 4,000 gold to do business with.

    Just an idea.

I'll have to find out how to do those quests for the thieves guild. Do you mean when you join the thieves guild, never bother with the main questline, but the quests I do are the small jobs given to you by some guy in the thieves guild?

Also, I'm pretty sure the economics of Skyrim mod allows you to choose higher amounts of gold for merchants to carry. I think there are four or five, and it goes up to 5,000 or 10,000 (starts off at 500 more and 1000 more, IIRC). You get to choose what you want for the merchants gold amounts.

  6. I am planning a character to play. I want to play as a female Nord. She will be proficient in some combat skills, she will have some perks in alchemy, and she'll have some proficiency in non-combat skills.

Here is a game plan I set up on a perk calculator:

    http://skyrimcalculator.com/231844

She will make use of light armor. I will have her adventuring around in fur armor. She'll wear hide boots, and for a helmet, I'll use a helmet from a mod; a leather helmet with a fur hood crafted onto it (vanilla helmets make hair from mods disappear, but I find this one covers up things so much, that it avoids this issue). She'll use a hide shield. I will make her really proficient in light armor to compensate for all this. It'll help her to be able to stay alive more often. Also, to help with defense, I will make her very proficient in the block skill tree.

For weapons, she'll use weapons that match her armor. I'll go with steel weapons as fast as I can get a hold of them. Namely, it'll be a steel war axe. I'll work to get a Skyforge Steel War Axe as fast as I can, too. I'll make her proficient in one-handed. For when I can't reach enemies from a distance, I will use a bow and arrows. I will use steel arrows. For a bow, I will use a simple Long Bow. I won't use it much, but it is just a Long Bow, so to help it not be so pathetic, I'll temper it, and also, I'll get some fortify archery apparel that I can equip. I'll use fortify archery potions if I have to, as well.

I will give her some alchemy perks and raise her alchemy skill. I don't want to get carried away with it because all three crafting skills can really make the game easy. I just want some alchemy perks (including Physician and Benefactor) so that she can make healing potions that'll actually do her some good.

I want to use two mods: Dual Sheath plus Shields on Back and Armed to the Teeth. I want to add some more realism to the game. I could have her weapons and shield visible when not in use. This will add some realism, but of course there will still be unrealistic things about this sort of thing, what with the way our characters can carry around many potions and tons of loot. :P

I'll make sure to get her a horse. For when a quest is really tough, I'll get one or two followers. The followers I'll use will be two others good at combat: Lydia and Mjoll the Lioness. I will have her marry one of them, probably Mjoll the Lioness, and whoever I marry, I'll use them as a follower whenever I need just one follower. I'll go around solo a lot of times, though. I will have my female Nord warrior have somewhat short (but not too short) blonde hair (hair from a hair pack mod). I will give her brown eyes. Since she is a Nord, I'll have her join the Stormcloaks, and I'll have her do that questline. She will also join the Companions and do that questline.

What do you guys think of this idea for a character? Now, I seek some advice. I wanted to put some perks into some non-combat perks. I wanted to help her with costs, so I wanted to give her perks in haggling. Btw, I will use the mod "Economics of Skyrim". Also, I put some perks into lockpicking because I want her to get two perks shown in the perk calculator. One of them helps you get more gold in chests, and one of them makes it 50% more likely to get rare loot in chests. Now what I could do is just fill up the 5-tier Alchemist perk from Alchemy and make tons of money via selling potions. This could also free up several perk points. However, I think I want to just go to 3/5 for the Alchemist perk set and help with money and costs by the right perks in Speech and Lockpicking. It'd be more interesting that way, and it'd require me to go on quests more and go through more dungeons to get more loot. Plus, it'd make my character more interesting to have some non-combat skills. Instead of being almost a straight up warrior, she could be more of an adventurer (who happens to be very skillful with some combat skills). What do you guys think? Should I just let the potions take care of me financially, giving me more perk points, or should I make things more interesting? If I took the perks out of lockpicking and speech, I'd put two more perks into alchemy and put some perks into archery (see perk calculator link below).

    http://skyrimcalculator.com/231861

Edit: The Skyrim perk calculator with speech perks is a general blueprint for this character I want to play. I will also use this mod: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18919 It will change where perks are placed to some degree (for perks I'll spend in between levels 2-50).

  7. So I want to start a new character and I have a few ideas but I would love to hear some builds/mods/roles you used or think would be fun to play! So far I've pretty well played out a Hunter and already have a Shield Maiden going. So I was thinking of a conjurer that also uses alteration to buff their minions or perhaps a nightblade of sorts... anyways, thanks in advance for any input!

This isn't really in line with your OP objective, but I'd like to know more about a Shield Maiden build and I'd like to know more about your Hunter. What is a Shield Maiden? My guess is a pretty female heroine with fancy armor (maybe go to Elven and work your way to Glass, maybe modded armor), who uses a shield and is proficient in blocking. I'm just guessing. Does a Shield Maiden use one handed weapons, as well, and has perks in one-handed? Does a Shield Maiden use restoration magic and has perks in restoration?

Also, tell me more about a Hunter build for a character. I'm about to start a new game sometime soon (I'm just in the process of solving an issue with Nexus Mod Manager), and I'm going to have a female character that has some similarities to a Hunter. She will be a Warrior proficient in one-handed and block. She will make use of a bow for when long range combat is ever needed. Her weapons and armor will be simple. For example, for a bow, I'll either use a Long Bow or a Hunting Bow or a bow from a mod that is wooden. She will use steel arrows. She will use a Skyforge Steel War Axe for close range combat (it'll be her main weapon). She will use hide shields. Her armor will be fur armor. I'll put perks into light armor so that she can, well, stay alive at later levels, haha. :P My character has some similarities to a Hunter build, but I'd like to know more about an actual Hunter build, and I'd like to know more about your Hunter character in specific.

  8. I found some computers that are about the same price. http://www.ebuyer.com/search?price=595+TO+670&cat=465

Ebuyer.com is for the UK, too.

With those two i5 processors, I know they aren't the best i5s on the market, but I'm pretty sure they are better than the AMD CPU being used for the computer you linked (can anyone confirm this?).

This benchmark ranking also indicates how one card compares to another. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html The two I linked to are at No. 13 and No. 17, while the one in the computer you linked to is lower.

Plus, about the RAM, don't worry that the RAM is lower for the ones I linked to. 16 GB of RAM is useless for computer gaming at the moment, and useless for Skyrim. New games these days make use of 4 GB of RAM. I'd say sometime soon, we'll start to see PC games that utilize 8 GB of RAM. PC games utilizing 16 GB of RAM is kind of far off from now. By time PC games use 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM, you can easily just upgrade your computer from 8 GB to 16 GB.

  9. I remember some people saying that they like to make their spellswords proficient in enchanting so that they can enchant armors to have benefits in regards to protection and bolstering stats.
  10. The city is also massive (Oblivion's portrayl bordered on pathetic) housing by some estimates more than a million people.

Of course, the devs can only do so much with 2005 PCs, and only do so much with limited tech. It is just like how High Hrothgar is supposed to be the biggest mountain in Tamriel, but it ain't much of a mountain in Skyrim. Or just think how they have to work with the tech and fun factor with the sizes of Morrowind, Cyrodiil, and Skyrim. All should be much bigger, but not just tech but like I mentioned, fun factor; if they could have made Skyrim to scale think of all the barren wilderness you'd traverse just to get from, say, a fortress to a really small village. :P

Oh, yes. I remember the problems Daggerfall caused, and still causes, and that game was actually built to scale. Still, Vivec was a much more impressive city than the Imperial City, and it's supposed to be a fraction of the size. With the exception of White Gold Tower, the Imperial City in Oblivion was tiny, sad and thuroughly unimpressive. It also barely touched on the levels of ruins beneath the city, or the secrets hidden throughout its ancient walls. Considering so much of the focus of Oblivion was in and around the Imperial City, they really did nothing with it.

I figure in the future, with the TES franchise, they'll revisit the Imperial City when technology is much more advanced (for PCs), and we should see a grander and much more impressive Imperial City by then.

  11. The city is also massive (Oblivion's portrayl bordered on pathetic) housing by some estimates more than a million people.

  12. For a spellsword, you'll want to work up to Elven and Glass armor, and maybe even Dragon Scale. However, to be able to really enhance Dragon Scale armor via tempering (or to even create it), you'll need 100 in Smithing, which takes a long time to get and takes a lot of Smithing. It isn't easy to get there unless you power level, and let me recommend against power leveling. When I first got into Skyrim, I got addicted to power leveling on a number of different skill trees, and then at some point I realized how much it takes away from the game. It was ruining the game for me, so I started from the beginning again. I was playing a character where I wasn't power leveling and was liking it much more that way.

If you don't wanna wait till level 100 in Smithing for Dragon Scale armor, you could probably find a mod that has it so that merchants sell full sets of Dragon Scale armor in the game. Just remember, you can't fully enhance it without the Dragon Armor perk. Which is fine. You just don't need the best armor in the game and with the best tempering. It just seems like a lot of Skyrim players always want the very best armor and weapons they can get. :P

Also, check out Matys Mithril Armor. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19655

Update: I just checked out Matys Mithril mod and he made some changes. It makes some of the things I said in the first paragraph irrelevant. With the Mithril mod, you can create and temper Mithril armor if you have the Glass armor perk, which you can get at level 70 of Smithing.

  13. I gave Kudos to both of you. Both posts help me out. I may just load the game via SKSE and load it up with Steam every now and then for Steam sync updates, or I might just tinker around with some files to get SKSE to load up with Steam.

When new versions of Skyrim roll out, SKSE has to be updated to work properly with a new version of Steam, right? And I would not want to load things with SKSE then? Or is this not correct? I never really made use of SKSE before, but I just found two mods that use it and I'm going to use SKSE.

Yes, you are right. Whenever a new version of Skyrim is released, SKSE will not launch the game and therefore your mods will not work. However, there is good news. The SKSE team usually updates either the same day of the new patch for skyrim, or a day after, so you shouldn't have to go any more than a day before SKSE works again. Hope this has helped!

    Also, Merry Christmas!

    -Elsarian

Merry Christmas to you, as well. You have helped me in two threads today. I'd give you another kudos point, but with these forums, it looks like it is only 'one per customer'.

  14. I suspected as much with so many things you said. Well, I think I'll uninstall the game and reinstall it, and start anew. How limited is NMM in offline mode? Will it be able to do easy installs for me in offline mode?

Also, to clarify...I have a new computer, and I wanted to get Skyrim up and going on my new computer. So, about the Nexus password, well I can log into the site just fine. I use FireFox and I used FireFox backup tools and transferred saved passwords from my last computer to this new one. However, I'm still out of luck with the NMM. I wrote a message to an admin and they should be able to help me out and all that should work out soon.

  15. To start off this thread, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you mess around with files and mods, can you corrupt a save that can manifest with more buginess and problems later on, as you play more, save more, and make more progress? Could you create a problem at level 7 that could cause you a lot of frustration later on, after you've made so much progress?

I lost the ability to use NMM. I forgot the password and I contacted an admin so that I could get a new password so that I could use NMM again. In the meantime, I'm trying to get Skyrim up and running on a new computer. I reinstalled Skyrim via Steam, and then I took a Skyrim folder I saved and copy pasted it into the Steam apps folder, and then I added a handful of mods, and I'm going to add three more mods and then I probably won't add anymore mods until I get NMM up and running again. The Skyrim folder I copied pasted has lots of alterations compared to the default Skyrim folder, and also, some of the mods are probably outdated by now. I was going to take this backed up Skyrim folder and just start a new game with a new character.

So...is all that going about things haphazardly? Will I just have a good chance of setting myself up for a corrupted save, and thus, frustration down the road? If I want to start a new game, should I just wait until I have NMM running again, reinstall Skyrim with the default Skyrim folder, and just re-add the mods I want via NMM? Or could I work with things like the way I've been doing?

  16. I remember discussing this about spellswords before. I forgot a lot of what was said, but I remember some people saying they prefer light armor for the mobility. They say heavy armor helps a lot early on in the game, but light armor can be pretty decent with the right armor (the ones you get later in the game).

Something to consider: If you make your character get skills in enchanting, you can enchant their armor with different benefits, including fortify light armor. For a spellsword, you wouldn't level up smithing much or put much perks into smithing. However, something else to consider...

Something else to consider is the mod "Economics of Skyrim". (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11919) It makes an assortment of changes to merchants and shops in the game. This mod may not be for you. However, if you check it out and decide you want to use it, there is something about it that could really benefit someone who doesn't have a lot of perks in smithing/doesn't level smithing much. Taken from the mod's page:

"1. Tempering: Blacksmiths can temper your weapons for you now if you do not wish to do it yourself. A new dialogue topic is available with all blacksmiths while they offer services: “Can you improve my equipment?” Select it, and the Smith will ask you if you wish to improve your weapons or your armor. Choose which you want (or change you mind if you hit the topic by mistake) and the smith will inform you to what grade of quality he is capable of improving your gear to, and will do so. For a price."

If you go with light armor for mobility, you'll be able to have it enhanced at work benches with this mod. You'll just have to find blacksmiths that can enhance your gear to high levels, and I'm assuming they can enhance things to different degrees (for example, someone in Whiterun might be pretty good at improving leather armor, but not good with Elven and Glass armor).

  17. I gave Kudos to both of you. Both posts help me out. I may just load the game via SKSE and load it up with Steam every now and then for Steam sync updates, or I might just tinker around with some files to get SKSE to load up with Steam.

  18. I'd like to use some mods that use SKSE. One of them is the Economics of Skyrim mod, which seems like a great mod. I installed SKSE, and it seems like I have to use the SKSE Loader every time I play Skyrim in order for SKSE mods to work. However, I do know that in order to get Steam Workshop Mods to work, you need to load Skyrim via Steam so that Steam mods can sync up.

Is there a way to use mods that use SKSE and have Steam Workshop Mods at the same time? I'd hate it if you had to choose one over the other. I'd choose SKSE, but the Steam mods I have I would like to use (I only have two).

I can't really check things out myself and experiment. I have a new computer and I'm trying to get Skyrim running with mods on my new computer, and I'm having issues and it'll take some time and effort to get so many things into place, and it doesn't help that I have to install all mods manually at the moment, as I've forgotten my password for NMM and it won't let me use it without the password. I'm trying to work out a solution with that.

  19. Ysolda is my favorite Skyrim woman, I think. She is a good one to marry.

I'm now playing a warrior and thinking of either marrying Lydia or Mjoll The Lioness.

  20. I ended up taking a bit of a break from Skyrim, but now I'm ready to pick up my game again. I have decided to try RLwC. I'll work on installing that and tinkering with it sometime soon. As for HD textures, I don't know where to start. Can someone point me in a direction for a good HD texture pack that might be able to run well on my system with RLwC? Like I said, I really don't know where to start on this. I haven't looked into the HD textures thing for Skyrim at all.
  21. Then again, the gold is disproportionate; a house should be worth tons more than thirty years' worth of food.

From a strict roleplaying standpoint, the Septim should be divided into silver and copper coins, with the gold coin being able to buy you some 200 loaves of bread, and the copper coin taking the place of the ingame Septim(Four million copper Septims would set you for life) making thousand-gold treasure stashes actually worth something.

Is there a mod that has copper, silver, and gold Septims?

  22. I'm going to try RLwC since people don't advice many other ENBs. Would my system be able to handle HD textures, or should I not bother with that? Is there a good HD texture pack that offers different downloads with some low-end HD textures? I know they can make HD textures with different HD resolutions (that is correct, right?).
