  1. Okay, I'll have to look into these multiple things.

I was thinking of getting a Radeon HD 7850 in October or November and upgrading my RAM to 8 GB. With that GPU I could play Skyrim with all sorts of ENBs, right? Would my CPU hold me back (when using ENBs), or would it be just fine? Or would it be just fine with some tweaking?

Hardly. It won't run well with ENB + SkyrimHD. It'll peak the low 30's in open areas, specially if you consider your processor really needs an overclock to at least 4 GHz.

To crank it up with ENB and texture packs and keep steady > 40 fps all the time you would need a 7950 at least.

If I got a Radeon HD 7850, would you recommend I do ENB or Skyrim HD? Would ENB even look good without HD textures? I don't plan on getting a high end card and I don't plan on getting a better processor for quite some time.

If you guys don't recommend I do ENB with a Radeon HD 7850 and with my processor, I'm not even going to get a new GPU this year.

My current card can't run the game at 30 FPS or higher with either ENB or HD textures, can it?

Does anyone have any other pointers for my current system like the poster who first responded in this thread?

  3. I haven't even bothered with enhancing the visuals of Skyrim yet. I just figured my computer wouldn't be able to run the game well with them. However, I could be wrong on that. I want to discuss what I should do to make the visuals look better.

    First off, my specs:

    Radeon HD 5750 1 GB

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition (Quad Core CPU at 3.2 GHz)

    4 GB DDR 3 RAM (PC 1600)

    Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit

My computer runs Vanilla graphics Skyrim pretty decently, with the framerate being unsteady sometimes, but a lot of times I'm guessing it runs over 30 FPS. My computer could run the game well with HD textures? Also, what are some good ENBs that don't make performance take a significant hit? Also, what are some performance boosters for Skyrim? I'm running the latest variant of Skyrim 1.6.

Also, how do you check framerate in Skyrim? Do I need a third party program?

  4. Okay, how about a similar build with some changes: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#157329

Going back to light armor for mobility. Will use chain mail armors from a couple of mods (one of them using advanced armors) and then move up to mithril armor (from a mod). I don't know if I will put all those perks into light armor. The mithril armor mod is new, but the mod author wants to make it have the armor rating of glass armor. Perhaps with three perks in agile defender I can get the mithril armor to the armor cap (with some fortify smithing apparel and store bought smithing potions).

I can go mainly with a sword and then break out a mace for foes with heavy armor (I like doing things this way). I'm playing a character that mainly uses a war axe, so I'd like to have fun with some different one-handed weapons. You say I should skip bladesman, right? Should I put the perks into bone breaker? I will have some fortify one-handed apparel, btw. I have a mod that allows for multiple pendants and rings (I go with only two rings that effect combat at a time, and only two pendants that effect combat at a time, and I don't stack effects unless it is from one ring and one pendant).

I got rid of soul squeezer. Having five out of five in enchanter is enough for me. Might take a long time to get to level 80 in enchanting for it, too. But what I mean about what I just said is that I don't need the middle branch of the enchanting tree. Do you think I should do the left branch of the enchanting tree, too? Would I really need those perks, or should I just put effects on my weapons that absorb magicka instead? Should I use an absorb magicka sword on magic wielding foes and then just use weapons with absorb health or absorb stamina on other foes? Preferably weapons with absorb health as an effect? Also, I got rid of intense flames and disintegrate. I have deep freeze. Should I put perks in fire, ice, and lightning magic? Is there one I can do without? Is it good to have all three?

Also, if you recommend it, I could install a mod for ward spells. What it does is when you use a ward spell to block a physical attack, it won't increase protection from the attack, but it will knock back opponents. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10828

  5. Yu could always right down how much money you got from one particular sale then bring up the console and type "player.removeitem f [X]" where [X] is 80% of the money you got from the sale

I can try that. I think I'll try requesting the mod at a few more forums and if I just can't find anyone who'd like to make it, I can educate myself on what it takes to make this mod. I have no experience at making a mod for any game, but this mod doesn't seem like it'd be that hard. Nothing like rendering a character, weapon, building, or armor, or an ENB or visuals mod or changing the AI of NPCs and so forth. It should be a rather easy mod to make compared to many mods.

  6. Hugging is for 'milk drinkers'. ;)

I do think the Thalmor could use more hugs. And the Stormcloaks. And the imperials. And all the bandits. And all the bears and saber cats. The majority of Skyrim needs more hugs.

  7. I have been looking for a way to balance the game for thief characters. It helps add challenge, like what you were looking for with this merciless beginning mod. I want to play a thief character who has many perks in alchemy (it is ideal to have several alchemy perks for thief characters), but have not started a game with a thief character because when you have a lot of perks in alchemy, you can easily make a lot of money off of the potions and poisons you make, and this would make making money via thievery pretty pointless. I have been looking for a mod that makes it so that player-made potions and poisons have 1/10th the sell value. Has this issue ever occurred to you, since you were looking for more challenge with a thief character? I'm having trouble finding someone to make this mod, so I was wondering if you know of any way to alleviate this issue which makes things unbalanced for thieves. Is there some console commands that can help in any way?

I'm asking because it seems like you would have noticed this balancing issue. I'm very sure some other Skyrim players see this as a balancing issue, too.

Due to the face that dice determine who I am, I've only ever once had a Thief using alchemy, mostly with stolen ingredients. and in cases like that yes I do wish that they sold less. like the skyrim economy was live, but a 'living economy' mod usually takes quite a bit of time and work, so its the sort of thing you wait for a modder to decide to do, rather than ask them to do

Well, I don't know if what I have been seeking is a living economy mod. I got the idea when I found an alchemy overhaul mod that has several components to it, and one of the things it changed was making player-made potions and poisons selling for about 20% of their usual costs while keeping the EXP gains for alchemy almost the same or keeping them the same. So that is when I got my idea for a mod. I don't want this particular alchemy overhaul mod though because it brings with it many other changes, and not all of them are changes I want. So the point is that it seems like it is not too hard to change the sell value of player-made potions and poisons with the CK. I've been thinking of making the mod myself if I can't find someone who'd like to make it. I'd really like it if I did find someone who wanted to make it, but in the meantime, I'm going to start reading up on CK tutorials.

  8. I used my Nord warrior character to depict what my spellsword would look like wearing the apparel I'd like. What do you guys think of these get-ups?

Steel Plate Armor with a Skyforge Steel Mace and steel helmet with a wolf fur hood attached to it

    http://i46.tinypic.com/x22cr5.jpg

Ebony armor with a steel helmet with a wolf fur hood and an ebony mace

    http://i49.tinypic.com/2up7qiu.jpg

Ebony armor with the same helmet and an ebony sword

    http://i49.tinypic.com/2jesb2w.jpg

  9. I have gotten into the habit of using dice rollers to plan a RP character and then use console to skip the opening( 'coc' from within the menu).

When starting my thief character this time round I realised I automatically have flames and healing. Is it possible for anyone to just turn those automatic spells off? the spell books exist for them so its not like your stopping the player ever getting the spell, just stopping them starting with them.

    Any help?

  10. Edit: To clarify (like I have near the end of this post), I appreciate getting tips on building a good spellsword, I'm just trying to sort that out with including some things I'd like to have with a spellsword build.

Well, this is all definitely providing some advice for me.

I know that war axes are for the most part better than maces. Maybe I don't have to go with maces only. Perhaps I can go mainly with a sword, and then break out a mace for those with heavy armor. You can have skyforge steel maces that can be tempered via a mod, btw.

    Here is a build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#156197

I don't need the advanced armors perk. It is okay if I don't make steel plate armor legendary.

I was thinking of using enchanting to put fortify magicka effects on my armor and some apparel. I can increase the amount of magicka I have through that. Is there an enchant for absorb magicka? That is something to consider. I could make some fortify one-handed apparel. I was thinking of doing fire and lightning spells with one hand (primarily lightning magic), and if I want ice magic, I can enchant some weapons with ice magic.

Would taking a character in this direction be worthwhile? Or would I just set myself up for difficulties at later levels. I don't even know how high I'll take this character's level. I have no experience in crafting a spellsword, but I'm just looking for something that would be fun to play. I know this isn't the most effective spellsword build (no robes plus no HA helmet, boots, and gauntlets and no dragon priest masks), but I want to create a certain kind of spellsword just on the basis of what appeals to me.

  11. Bethesda hasn't put much thought into this, but at least they gave players the option to marry NPCs of the same sex. Now, most of that is appreciated by straight guys with female characters who want their femmes to marry good looking female NPCs, but it is also appreciated by gays, bis, and lesbians who want their male character with a male NPC or a female character with a female NPC.

I'm in the former category. I only play female characters and I just have them marry women. All my female characters are lesbians. You know, I just don't want one of my beautiful female characters marrying Urgerth War Bear or Belethor. XD

  12. This is a spellsword build - Edit: Nevermind, see newer build below.

I don't want to make too much use of enchanting. It can really make the game easy. I don't even know if I want 5/5 of the first perk set. I just want some enchanting perks so that I can put elemental effects on maces. Maybe put an absorb magicka effect on some maces and use those maces sometimes. I don't know how many smithing perks I'll invest in for a spellsword. I'd like to be able to improve steel plate armor and ebony maces by twice as much, but do I really need to? I don't. I'd like to be able to create them at any time I feel like, though. I have plenty of perks to use, but I'm trying to get a very good build by level 35 to level 40. I could get all the perks I want by levels 55 to 60, but that'd be after much playing.

I think what I should do is focus on healing and wards with my left hand, and then throw in some fire magic and lightning magic with it sometimes, and then have ice maces. Maybe carry two of them so if one runs out of charge, switch to one with charge.

    Different build I made: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#155254

In order to make good money, I can make more use with my smithing perks and craft some good armors and then enchant them (I know, a very well known and common strategy).

  13.

Would it be better to go with light armor? I prefer light armor, but I'd like to play a character with heavy armor sometime. As an alternative, I could go with steel armor with steel cuffed boots and steel Nordic gauntlets and then work my way up to steel plate armor. I'd like to go with ebony maces eventually. We'll see about that, I'd then would have to put many perks into smithing.
Light armor is great for the stamina regeneration perk, or wear Heavy with robes to help with you magicka. Probably the latter, as it doesn't slow you down as much, and you can reinforce it with spells.

You can wear both magic robes and heavy armor at the same time? Do you need a mod for that? Or are you talking about wearing magic robes and then HA gauntlets and boots? I think I saw some people mention that in this thread.

I'm still trying to figure out how to make this build. I'd like to have a spellsword with steel plate armor and an ebony mace, but then I'd have to put a lot of perks into smithing. There is a mod that allows you to put perks into any perk type without making perk progression in the skill trees. I've been avoiding it because I'm trying to do things that don't cheapen the experience, but maybe for this character, I could use that mod and only choose to make use of it in the smithing perk tree but refrain from using it in the other perk trees. Or maybe there is a mod that will allow you to temper any types of weapons and armors to twice as good without having a perk in their category. I'd rather go with that. I'd just rather not put 7 perks into smithing for a spellsword.

  14. I've never played more than one character at a time for Skyrim, but I want to start doing that, but I was wondering about something. I will want some mods for some characters and won't want them for others. Will I just have to activate and deactivate mods periodically, or has someone created a means to simplify all this (like how there is a save game manager for different characters, for example)?
  15. How should I portion out health, magicka, and stamina when leveling up? Should I bring my stamina only up to 140 or 150 and then make health and magicka equal? Portion out magicka to health in a 2:3 ratio?

I'd like to go with a Breton woman. I won't bother with the mage flesh perk set, because she will wear armor. I'll have her use maces. As soon as I get her to Riverwood and Whiterun, I'll get her into chain mail from a mod. I'll get her a steel mace as soon as I can, and then go for a skyforge steel mace (from a mod). I'll work her up to mithril armor (from a mod).

Are there any mods that make ward spells absorb more physical damage than they already do? They protect you from some damage from physical attacks, right?

  16. I recommend to people the conjure ethereal horse mod, where you get a conjure ethereal horse spell. It is just a great mod. I use it and if I didn't have it I would fast travel sometimes, but with this spell, I've managed to not fast travel at all ever since I got the mod. You can have a horse whenever you want. Don't want a horse? No problem, it goes away when you dismount it. It's default speed is the fastest of the speeds offered, and with the default speed, when it gallops, it goes as fast as a regular horse when sprinting, if not slightly faster, and when the ethereal horse sprints, it goes pretty darn fast and you can get around Skyrim pretty well with it.

    http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9534

  17. Sure, you spend a considerable amount of time fiddling with mods, but the payoff of being able to have all these mods to choose from on the PC version of Skyrim are so, so worth it and just elevate it way beyond what you get from the game on the consoles. No PC Gaming Master Race elitist stuff here, I play consoles and I own two from the current gen, it is just that TES games are definitely the best on PC.
  18. There is something that really takes away from playing thief characters, and it has a pretty simple fix. A lot of people who play thieves put perks into alchemy, upping perks such as the 5 tiered "Alchemist" perk set. Alchemy is great for thieves, as they can make deadly poisons, and they sure can use some potent self-made healing potions. With this comes the ability to make potions that have high sell values. You can easily make a lot of money from selling potions, especially when you have a lot of perks in alchemy, and this really makes things unbalanced or broken for thieves. When people play thieves in Skyrim, they want to get by by making money on thievery, or even become rich from it. What is the point of taking all the time and effort to pull off successful thievery when you can just get very rich from selling potions that you can make yourself. You could just choose to not sell those potions, but that really breaks immersion. I don't even RP, but I find it would really break immersion if I had a thief character that'd rather make money through thievery, putting so much effort into it and risking going to jail or risking their life for it rather than making a lot of money by selling potions they can so easily make.

The mod I request is something which drastically lowers the sell value of player-made potions and poisons, and it should be appealing to many who want to play Thief characters, for the reasons I just detailed above. This mod would make it so that people who play as thieves would have to really rely on thievery and finding loot in dungeons and on enemies to make money, which would be more fun for a lot of us. At a low level of alchemy and with no perks in alchemy, potions can go for 100-400 gold per potion and with certain perks and a high alchemy skill they can fetch 1000 gold to 2000 gold or more.

What I think would be good would be having different files (or some other way to choose the different sell values of potions) with different adjustments to the prices of player-made potions and poisons. Adjustments to the prices of player-made potions and poisons would be: 10% of the default values, 15% of the default values, and 20% of the default values. This gives those who are interested in this mod some selection.

Important to note, I'd like the sell value of potions and poisons you buy from merchants or find as loot to stay completely the same.

  19. That looks like it hit the elk in the vagoo rather than the stinker (we'll assume the elk is female).

Ummmm, it's got antlers, huge great ones, soooo It's a boy, and it's butt-shot or in the 'nads http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/biggrin.gif

Okay, it totally got shot in the nads. And then died right away. It isn't too unlike that one scene from Robocop!

  20. <snip>

If you use a Breton, with the Atronach Stone, you can drop a Circle of Protection, or Guardian Circle to soak up for almost unlimited Magicka for the duration. (Guardian Circle also heals you, but has the Master level casting time, and you only want 50% absorbtion so the Healing gets through.) I used this combo to fry Alduin on Master in seconds. It's not unlike Highborn, but Altmers have to stop casting to recover. This is constant, and you're temporarilly immune to all magical effects. This includes shouts, poison, disease, and unfortunately, your own summons. i only mention it, because i noticed you aren't going with any Conjuration. ;) They can also stack the Lord for an easy 50% magicka resistance, which is counted after absorption, so it's essentually 75% off all magical damage, +50 armor. Not a bad deal! Ward Absorb is another 20% spell absorbtion, but it's at will, along with Dragonskin, so you can turn it off. I call this the Magicka Well combo, no Enchantment neccessary.

Yeah, I found out the wonders of spell absorption the hard way, with two characters in a row. The first time trying to conjure atronachs to help against a Briarheart. I had like 70% absorption. "Hey! Where did my helper go?" Whack, whack, whack. "Hey! Why is my magicka still full?" Whack... I had absorbed my own conjuration spells. The second time was fighting Otar, I think. Had a Breton who could cast Dragonskin and get almost 100% absorption, 95% IIRC. Took several shots from Otar which maxed out my magicka. "Sweeeet!", I thought. Then I suddenly died with electrical arcs dancing all over me. Absorption is a percent chance to absorb; if you don't make the roll, the spell gets through. Otar got one through. Use it, but don't count on it unless you're certain you have 100%, preferably more. Now I always have some elemental/magic resist for the ones that get past absorption.

Ward Absorb is okay at low levels, but I find that high level magic users break wards almost instantly. I just can't find much use for Restoration in Skyrim. I guess I have to admit that I have used the Circle of Protection exploit to waste an entire Forsworn fort garrison with fireballs in a furious display of arcane Revenge. Pretty fun, but definitely OP.

Can I do fine with Restoration on expert level? I'd like to have a spellsword that uses restoration and destruction and not fall back on potions again like all my other characters, but if potions are that much better, I might put some perks into alchemy so that I can make some healing potions. But I'd like to try and manage with restoration spells.

  21. A build I made with Skyrim calculator. http://skyrimcalculator.com/#149744
I like that, what kinds of spells where you thinking about for it? You can power a lot of Destruction with Ward Absorb, as long as you have a Dragon/Preist, or other powerful mage to soak up. You shouldn't need that, and Alteration with the Scaled, as long as you don't tank, though the magic resistance perks might be handy. Definitely Breton, Imperial may have a slight skill boost in 1H, Restoration, and Destruction (a total of 15 SLs) but Breton's resistance, and daily minute of spell absorbtion would serve you longer. Also, you'll get more levels faster early on, to accellerate the build.

You might want to perk Dwarven Smithing for a stompier Mace. With what you have there, the highest teir of weapons you can get is Elven. If you were doing Axes, I'd say you could make do with Skyforge, but there is no Mace for that.

Actually, there is a mod I found on Steam Workshop that has Skyforge Steel Maces. I'm using it right now with a female Nord warrior. You can craft them and temper them. I was thinking of going with Skyforge Steel Maces for this character. I might put more perks into enchanting, too. I don't want it to make the game too easy, but I want perks in enchanting for things like fortify one-handed for gauntlets and putting magic effects on maces.

Is there a mod that allows wards to reduce damage from melee attacks? I never played a magic user in Skyrim before, my understanding is that ward spells only reduce damage from spells coming your way.

Edit: Here is a new build I made. http://skyrimcalculator.com/#149920

I want to get into enchanting for weapons. I don't want to use too much enchanting because it can really make the game easy. I think I'll just buy fortify one-handed rings and pendants from merchants. I'll use one pendant and one ring, and if late in the game I find I could use another fortify one-handed ring, I'll buy a second one.
