Disallow authors from preventing user-voted tags
NexBeth replied to Rizzu's topic in Suggestion Board
Modders can only ban users from their mod page when the user has posted inappropriate comments on their mod pages. If a user thinks a tag should be included in a mod, then maybe suggest it the MA directly. I doubt Nexus moderators signed up to volunteer their time reviewing all the tags on mods. They left it to the MA, since it's their mod and mod page. Any issues can be brought to the attention of Nexus if an author is obviously egregiously neglecting to tag. -
Nope. It is the default. But people remain annoyed.

I participated in the Beta a good deal and never saw a poll anywhere. Even so, not sure bemoaning the potholes in visibility of the polls has relevance going forward. The Beta is supposedly closed, yet Nexus says it is still working on the site and taking in suggestions. Throwing out constructive criticisms and ideas to me seem a better course of action then filling up page after page of bemoaned complaints. Complaints are not going to have a productive impact on improving the site (THAT IS HERE TO STAY like it or not). There has been a good amt of good feedback already. All and all, lucky Nexus is still working on the website and taking our feedback. Take advantage of that because they could really just do whatever they wish with their website, with or without user input.

But the UI did change in regards to this compliant specifically. I was one of the big complainers on that issue. The description page area went from Black Hole Black to grey. And even the forum area where users type dropped the Black Hole color to a milder grey-black.

If you adjust your text size above 100% in Accessibility and/or your Display size, then your browser will accommodate that and show text and display larger. Same with increasing size of browser. That is what is causing the descriptions to appear incomplete. Return all sizing to 100%, then the descriptions are complete.

They have answered in other topics. The answer is no. They aren't going to manage 2 UI's. Also, they moved away from the old UI because of unresolvable problems with it that made it impossible to continue with it. Now what that is, don't know. They also said that the BETA was closed, but apparently, they are still troubleshooting and taking in some suggestions and fixes. So we can hope for the best there. They have conceded to some complaints, but certainly not all.

People visiting Nexus on computer are mostly doing it at home. Phones, however, go everywhere with you--work, restaurants, school, anywhere you are "waiting" therefore Nexus can potentially be available quite a lot through the phone. No doubt creating a larger usage which generates more income that would not be there otherwise. Nothing wrong with Nexus wanting to make more money. This also is a plus for at least 40% of users who visit Nexus on the phone. That is no small number for phone usage and can't just be ignored. Ideally, there will be a reasonable balance resulting in a decent desktop interface for the website that can also be usable for the phone.
-
And all the effort and money invested in smartphone usability may be a waste, if you believe Mark Zukerberg (META). He claims smartphones will soon be replaced by smart eyewear. Wonder how the UI will adjust to accommodate that?
-
All of the phone users, however, are very likely also desktop users (primarily). So, it is better to say that of all the desktop users, 40% are also using the phone. It is not a 60-40 ratio. It is 100% Nexus users using desktop, of which 40% also use the phone. I agree using the phone is a lot better now, coming from being absolutely atrocious before this change. However, comparing the 2, it is pretty clear that the desktop UI forums has taken on an odd/poor space usage to completely accommodate the phone, which, as a result, now looks pretty good (the phone) without the bunched-up clutter it once suffered. Also, to accommodate phones, a lot of empty space has been added greatly benefiting phone presentation, but at the expense of the desktop UI that now looks like an UI that isn't quite finished and polished. The 3 column forums where the communications section occupies only 40% of the space on the page with the right and left mostly blank black is a glaring example of this. Humongous user avatars hanging out in the black column void as if they are lost in space--and they are.

I remember this being a rather big issue/discussion. However, didn't Nexus ultimately change the Black Hole Black text area with bright White text to what we have now? Granted, I don't like black or dark mode and it's still Black Hole Black on more grey now, but it did provide some relief. There was one member who was legally blind in the beta discussion. Her best view of the forum was Black Hole black on white text. Ideally, it would be great for users to be able switch from dark to light. The issue of the website design centering around accommodating phones has also changed some; believe me it started out quite a bit more phone-ish centric then it even is now.

Good Lord, give these kind of hypocritical remarks a hiatus. I have the same right to say what I think, just as you and many seem to think you have, only I can say my peace without the vitriol, rudeness, and empty threats.

I'm not sure Nexus regards its user as "customers". Just like mod authors don't regard gamers using their mods as "customers." I believe Nexus income is generated through ads, not user paid service. Premium memberships helps to support mod authors (over $11 million). Premium members are paying for uncapping their download speeds, no ads, additional messaging space, and support to MA's mostly. Not the right to run the Nexus website.

I think Nexus asking for feedback is interpreted by some users who dislike the change as an invitation to participate in recreating it. But really, feedback is more a request for input to help troubleshoot, not change, a newly designed website that was in beta.

I believe that would be the next step in this and account for the work they've put into making the site very smartphone friendly.

I've heard Search opens a new page a lot from commentators, but I don't see that at all. Search opens a large menu in front of the page you were on. You don't lose the page you were on by opening Search. You can do the search and when done, close it, press ESC or just click on the page you were on and you are back to where you were. A list of search results is an individual preference. I prefer the search with pics rather than a list. I agree the formatting of the forums into 3 columns resulting in only 1/3 of the forum space available for active communications (the intention of forums) is not good for pc users. Yes, wish there was a better solution that didn't lean in favor of smartphone compatibility. This has been argued to death pretty much; doesn't seem likely to change. Perhaps Nexus is preparing for the time when smartphones will be the dominate medium for NexusMods.

I'm starting to feel the same way. It is like I'm seeing one thing, but others are seeing entirely different things. The front game pages are covered with access to mods and rows and rows of more mods. There are things I don't like about the site either. Like everything to the right of a forum discussion taking up a 3rd of the page and to left avatars taking up 20% space. It is a waste of forum discussion space for what I think is unimportant clutter. But it is a better format for phones. And Nexus made the decision to keep it. That was hugely discussed during the Beta and apparently reverting back to the classic style is a no-go for Nexus. I prefer a light background. Also discussed during Beta. There was a change made to make the reading/writing areas less black, but I still don't get to have what I personally want-a light background. I guess what I'm saying is the Beta is over and if you want to just vent here, ok. But you're late to the discussion if you think these changes that have already been mulled over during the Beta is going to now effect change. At this point, it is probably just down to reporting bugs and problem areas if you still want to take part in fixing broken things on the new website. Just my 2cents.

Nexus is about modding, which includes videos and pictures about mods, and mod collections for those who don't want to do their own load order; it's about mods and provides a medium of communication within the community. The site can't possibly cater to each individual's wants who signs up here. I've been here 10 yrs, and it has never just been a download site for mods--thankfully.
-
Trying to figure that out too. Maybe the extra step is having to click on close to get out of the search page?
-
HadToRegister, I haven't tracked anybody's participation in the Beta, including you. I was responding more generally to people who are after-the-fact posting some pretty scathing complaints in what is now a closed Beta, acknowledging that they didn't participate in the Beta. What's the point, other than venting? Heck, maybe Nexus is still reading and considering; maybe not. Plenty of opportunity for everyone to get their feedback in was given though.
-
Lots of people with expansive critiques were involved in the BETA and Nexus was responsive to many complaints. Don't think there was much fake "LOVE IT" feedback. There was a good deal of feedback from many users. The Beta was quite obviously visible for many months to everyone who signed into Nexus. If you choose not to participate and get your concerns in, that's not really Nexus's fault.

There is legitimacy to the color-coded mod pages for browsing purposes (at least for the highest trafficked games). Users may have multiple mod pages up browsing and a game-assigned color helps to streamline the process of multi-tasked browsing. It's possible, however, that the new webpage doesn't allow for this. Or that it's impractical to main all the various color schemes.

Custom time range for mod searches appears to be removed. Now there is only ALL, 24. 7. 14, 28, 1YR. There used to also be a range that the user could input their desired time range.

Ok, I see problem now. If you use descriptions for your results, the search results are different. For instance, in classic version if your search word is CRAFT in the description name, it pulls up all mods with CRAFT in the description name. In the beta, not sure what criteria it is using to conduct the search, but the results are that CRAFT is not in the file description name.

"Trending Mods" is right at the top of the game mod pages.

Are they finished working on it? Shouldn't these types of topics and the Feedback board be closed down then if the work is done? I don't know anything about web design and what is and isn't possible, but I don't see complaining about too much empty space 20x a day in feedback topics productive, particularly when questioning why does Nexus give consideration to smartphones. I'm pretty sure they've seen the complaint enough times to have it drilled into their brains forevermore by now. A lot of feedback from members here have been implement.
