  1. I've played with quite a few mods and adjusted some things and fixed some bugs and the game now looks really quite nice and I was starting to get into some of the custom quests when I noticed something was very amiss. For example, I can kill a giant at level 9, which I remember giants being pretty tough to kill previously. However, a humanoid or a spriggan will kill me in 1-2 hits. I sort of vaguely remember reading something about melee weapons doing much more realistic damage (ie, higher) when I was downloading mods, but I sure can't find which mod is doing that. I'm not even sure I downloaded the mod that I'm remembering. Anyone have any idea of which one(s) of these might be messing with the damage and/or level values and make me die really easily? 0 0 Skyrim.esm 1 1 Update.esm 2 2 Dawnguard.esm 3 3 HearthFires.esm 4 4 Dragonborn.esm 5 5 Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp 6 6 SkyMoMod.esm 7 7 Falskaar.esm 8 8 Gray Fox Cowl.esm 9 9 Cutting Room Floor.esp 10 a SMIM-SE-Merged-All.esp 11 b FNIS.esp 12 c RUSTIC SOULGEMS - Unsorted.esp 13 d InstantMining.esp 14 e SPTDiverseGuardsSkyrimSE.esp 15 f Footprints.esp 16 10 HearthFire Display Case Fix.esp 17 11 Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Major City Interiors.esp 18 12 Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Minor Cities and Town Interiors.esp 19 13 MagicalCollegeofWinterhold.esp 20 14 Prometheus_No_snow_Under_the_roof.esp 21 15 WARZONES - SSE - Civil Unrest.esp 22 16 Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Major City Exteriors.esp 23 17 Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Dawnguard Interiors.esp 24 18 Beasts of Tamriel.esp 25 19 Undeath.esp 26 1a OBIS SE.esp 27 1b ethereal_elven_overhaul.esp 28 1c Racial Body Morphs.esp 29 1d EEO OBIS SE patch.esp 30 1e EEO CRF patch.esp 31 1f Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Dungeons.esp 32 20 Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Weathers.esp 33 21 Vivid WeathersSE.esp 34 22 IcePenguinWorldMap.esp 35 23 BetterShapedWeaponsLW-XB.esp 36 24 SkyrimIsWindy.esp 37 25 Man Those Borders!.esp 38 26 Ordinator - Perks of Skyrim.esp 39 27 Thunderchild - Epic Shout Package.esp 40 28 skyBirds_SSE.esp 41 29 HarvestOverhaul_Redone.esp 42 2a HarvestOverhaul_Redone_Creatures.esp 43 2b FastTravelSpeedMultiplier.esp 44 2c When Vampires Attack.esp 45 2d Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Dawnguard Weathers.esp 46 2e SkyrimIsWindy-HarvestOverhaul-Patch.esp 47 2f MCoW_Cutting Room Floor.esp 48 30 MoonAndStar_MAS.esp 49 31 Hothtrooper44_ArmorCompilation.esp 50 32 Populated Lands Roads Paths Legendary.esp 51 33 Holidays.esp 52 34 SimplyBiggerTreesSE.esp 53 35 Clockwork.esp 54 36 Run For Your Lives.esp 55 37 Blowing in the Wind SSE.esp 56 38 BetterQuestObjectives.esp 57 39 Tel Mithryn.esp 58 3a Immersive Patrols II.esp 59 3b Populated Cities Towns Villages Legendary.esp 60 3c Runandwalkpaces.esp 61 3d Visible Favorited Gear.esp 62 3e AmazingFollowerTweaks.esp 63 3f BosmerArmorMATY743.esp 64 40 Immersive Followers.esp 65 41 Skyrim Flora Overhaul.esp 66 42 Verdant - A Skyrim Grass Plugin SSE Version.esp 67 43 CinematicFireFX.esp 68 44 SkyrimIsWindy-SimplyBiggerTreesSE-Patch.esp 69 45 Blowing in the Wind - RLO Major City Exteriors Patch SSE.esp 70 46 LrsamwaysExpandedSkyrimWeaponry.esp 71 47 Ivarstead.esp 72 48 Helarchen Creek.esp 73 49 InsanitySorrow Weapons Pack.esp 74 4a ForgottenCity.esp 75 4b PrvtIRoyalArmory.esp 76 4c Equippable Tomes.esp 77 4d KS_Hairdo's_Lite.esp 78 4e No Snow Under The Roof - CRF Patch.esp 79 4f SuperbSerana.esp 80 50 Blowing in the Wind - SMIM Merged All Patch SSE.esp 81 51 Bijin Warmaidens.esp 82 52 AsharaErinFollower.esp 83 53 Relic Hunter Triss.esp 84 54 LeftHandRings.esp 85 55 LeftHandRings - Dawnguard.esp 86 56 LeftHandRings - Enchanted.esp 87 57 1nivWICCloaks.esp 88 58 WetandCold.esp 89 59 Faction Crossbows.esp 90 5a Dr_Bandolier.esp 91 5b OpenFaceGuardHelmetsSSE.esp 92 5c moonpath.esp 93 5d Apocalypse - Magic of Skyrim.esp 94 5e Aurora - Standing Stones of Skyrim.esp 95 5f AcquisitiveSoulGemMultithreaded.esp 96 60 Move it Dammit.esp 97 61 Vivid Weathers - Extended Snow.esp 98 62 Vivid Weathers - Extended Rain.esp 99 63 Beards.esp 100 64 DonCalzoneCharacterPresets.esp 101 65 EEO Imperious patch.esp 102 66 NB-Scars.esp 103 67 More Weapons Please.esp 104 68 WeaponsOf3E_SSE.esp 105 69 CiriOutfit.esp 106 6a Unique Uniques.esp 107 6b Black Mage Armor SE.esp 108 6c BloodWitchArmor.esp 109 6d BosmerElderShadowArmor.esp 110 6e Cassandra Frost Witch.esp 111 6f Emfy Cleric Robes.esp 112 70 Daedric Reaper Armor.esp 113 71 DragonBoneEbonsteel.esp 114 72 Gwelda Dawnguard Armor.esp 115 73 Gwelda Red Riding Hood.esp 116 74 Hothtrooper44_Armor_Ecksstra.esp 117 75 JS Armored Circlets SE.esp 118 76 Merta Assassin Armor.esp 119 77 Northgirl.esp 120 78 Tembtra Thief Armor.esp 121 79 Tribunal Robes for SSE.esp 122 7a Ursine Armor Pack.esp 123 7b Volkihar Knight.esp 124 7c XPMSSE.esp 125 7d ColovianNobleClothes.esp 126 7e ColovianNobleClothes_replacer.esp 127 7f Open Cities Skyrim.esp 128 80 Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul.esp 129 81 Immersive Citizens - OCS patch.esp 130 82 Darkwater Crossing.esp 131 83 Whistling Mine.esp 132 84 RealisticWaterTwo.esp 133 85 Blowing in the Wind - Open Cities Skyrim Patch SSE.esp 134 86 Relationship Dialogue Overhaul.esp 135 87 RWT Lod Fix.esp
  2. Ah, interesting. Now that I open my plugins.txt they do all have the asterisk but I've never seen that before. Maybe my game wasn't actually up to date and it somehow loaded that update when I was messing around with other things. It does have UniqueItems.esp without an asterisk and I know that mod is working so I'm not sure this is 100% what has happened, but definitely something I didn't know and hadn't seen before. Thanks! I would be thrilled beyond belief if this never happened again.
  3. I've searched this topic a lot as it's happened probably 10 times now and each time it seems to have a different trigger; meaning it's likely random and what I thought was a trigger was just a coincidence. This time, I was installing a couple mods that I had already downloaded earlier, went into and out of the game several times with no problems, uninstalled one mod, reinstalled it, something like that (I wasn't paying that much attention or taking notes), ran LOOT because I thought maybe one mod (affinity x3) wasn't working as it was taking forever to get Danse affinity and suddenly, just like so many times before, when I load my game it says there are a bazillion mods missing. I went and looked at my plugins.txt file because previously that file had been wiped and I was able to recover all mods that way. No good, it's got them all listed. Loadorder.txt has everything, dlcList.txt has them all... so no quick fix I guess. For the umpteenth time I have to manually uninstall and reinstall every single mod I've got. This can't happen to everyone or people would be posting lividly all over the place. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to do the launcher exe workaround from back in December of last year? This drives me nuts to the point where I'm close to uninstalling the game, taking back all the good things I've ever said about mods, and looking for something else during the summer sale. It's soooo frustrating.
  4. I found that you can roll back plugins.txt and that fixed it for me (this time).
  5. This just happened to me for a fourth time. Currently the only way I can get around it is to uninstall and reinstall every single active mod on my list. It occurs (to me at least) after an update to NMM. First with 61.14, next with a failed install of 61.15, then again with 61.15, and now I see that I have 61.16 and my game won't load again because every plugin is disabled. Has anyone found a fix yet? I opened a report here but there was no help. Time to rez that thread as well I think. EDIT: I did find several fixes and many didn't work. A fix that wasn't yet posted is to rollback plugins.txt to a previous version. That worked for me so maybe it'll help someone else as well.
  6. Did you just install an updated version of NMM? I installed a new version and it hasn't worked since that; I'm trying to determine if NMM is the problem or if FO4 updated or something.
  7. This may be a longshot as it is hard to gather appropriate information in this method but let's give it a try please. I am running Windows 10, game runs fine without GFWL. I have NMM 0.61.4 I am running the game via fose loader I am using LOOT to order the mods I ran archive invalidation invalidated and the check mark appears in NMM I ran updated unofficial fallout 3 patch from the exe I have the Steam version of the game fully updated I do not have any DLC I ran the 4gb memory patch The problems I am having are essentially that serveral mods just don't turn on at all. They're enabled in NMM. The problem might be that they do not show up in LOOT whatsoever. Mods that definitely aren't working: Quick Start Game at Vault 101 Enterance DIMONIZED TYPE3 V2 TEXTURE Fallout 3 Redesigned (probably because I don't have the DLC, I'm fine ignoring this one) Mods that sorta worked but aren't working well: Type3 Armor Replacers - T3 armors full release (the armors do not fit the body. a nude body has points where nipples should be, so I am taking that to mean the DIMONIZED TYPE3 BODY V3dot5 is working but the armor replacers aren't) I have gone through all the little tweaks and extra patches and installers that I can find but I'm really not making any progress. Hopefully someone else has had similar issues and can get me started in troubleshooting.
  8. Well, it never did show up in NMM but I got it all working, including finding the checkboxes in Data Files to disable DLC if I need to.
  9. Well, I couldn't figure it out and as I was looking at some options, the client gave me an error message saying it had crashed and needed to close. I pressed close and it said are you sure you want to close while there is an active download? There wasn't an active download, but I pressed no anyway. It didn't close, it didn't crash, there were no downloads active. So, I closed it myself (it didn't ask about an active download this time) and re-opened. Since then, it's been working fine... And yes, I did close and re-open it before as part of my troubleshooting. Definitely try it, but I can't guarantee that's a fix. If I manage to re-break it or it starts working incorrectly again, I'll post again with more details.
  10. So, I had NMM and stuff going along, then I bought the Skyrim DLC, now when I touch NMM at all, it disables the DLC. So I have to go launch the game through Steam, click data files, enable the DLC, close it out, then sort with LOOT, then launch via SKSE. There's got to be a way to avoid this and if it's just how NMM works, I can't be the only one to have asked the question (but I can't find any other threads about it anywhere). What should I do?
  11. So, if I understand correctly, official DLC will show up in NMM and I can activate/deactivate it as I wish?
  12. I have my game modded all to heck and I'd like to keep it that way. But, I've never tried the HD DLC. I have a completely unmodded game on my laptop, but you know how Steam is... So, if I download the HD DLC on my laptop (thereby linking it to my Steam library) I imagine my desktop will auto-update and download the HD DLC as well. Will that overwrite my texture mods like Tamriel reloaded and skin textures, etc? I think it'll be fine but I'm not that experienced in this stuff. Edit: on the same line of thinking, I also just bought the 'anthology' with all the DLC in it but I don't want to have to go through all 99 mods and see if they need changed after I install DLC. I should wait until I'm done with my current character, then install DG/DB/HF, then go through my mod list and change the ones that are necessary... right?
  13. The idea: I'm going to start a new character with much more roleplay than I've ever done before. I've been writing a backstory in my head and setting some goals and restrictions on my new toon before even starting the game. So, I thought I'd write most of the thoughts down here in terms of backstory and personality and others can play through with the "same" starting character if they like and it might be interesting to see what different choices our characters make. Skills/Personality: Mods "required": The short story: The detailed story:
  14. I now have an even 100 mods active and running pretty well. I do get some framerate hits now and then but... maybe at the end of summer I'll rebuild my rig and won't have to worry about that. Amazingly, there's still some things I'd like to add but haven't yet found! Oh well, 100 is enough to make a thoroughly different play-through experience I think.
  15. That was my suspicion on both things but hadn't tested it out yet. Now that I have good textures for everything the body textures are looking wimpy again so I'm going to play with that more. The screenshots the authors post look better than mine. I have CBBE, apachii, CBBE skin texture (navetsea i think), female face retexture (same as skin), and battle hardened body mod. According to battle hardened body, I should installed CBBE body mod (did it) and a textureset (he suggested navetsea, so I did that) but his screenshots and mine look pretty different. Even his "before" pics look better than mine do, so he must have something else running. I'm not sure mine doesn't look correct given that I'm running in a playable graphics setting, not a screenshot uber-high details setting. That said, I do wish my stuff looked like his screenshot #4.
  16. Still tooling and tweaking and making notes. I did have to drop my resolution to 2560x1440 after installing some HD textures. I have some stuff that I don't know where it came from, and that's bugging me the most. I'll find it. Anyhoo, I went with the Tamriel Reloaded set and ENB, got some weather mod that's kinda cool but I'd like to take that up a notch. I do have SMIM though I'm not sure exactly what it does when I'm in game; maybe it's good if it's somewhat unnoticeable. Enhanced Lights and FX is my favorite so far; made a huge, huge difference to the realism. I hated seeing someone sitting on a chair next to a fire and having no shadow whatsoever. My favorite so far. Once I get all my tweaking and testing done, I'm going to test several alternate start mods then install Frostfall and start over again. I'll add realistic water two to my list as my water mod doesn't look like it did anything at all. Civil War Overhaul sounds very cool, hadn't heard of bi-phenotypes so I'll see what that is, and page one of this thread still has a dozen or so I haven't tried. Every time I try one thing, it recommends about six others so it takes me hours to test them all and get them configured before deciding if I like them enough to keep them. Also, I was getting FPS stutter right after a new area got loaded (entering/exiting a door). It was suggested that going into windowed mode would fix that, so going with a lower res in windowed mode really ended up fixing more than one thing. I almost need to repeat this process on a different computer and take better notes. Several mods change textures and some state they need to be installed after another mod and overwrite the first mod's textures. So, for example, I've got some houses with really green roofs that I don't much like but I'm not sure which mod did it. There's lots of flowers and blooming trees now, too, and I do like that but I don't know where they came from. Maybe it's just springtime in the game (does it do that?) or something. Skyrim Gems has been good, too. Wish I had found it several weeks ago.
  17. Alright, cool. I have a list of 34 mods installed and active right now and the CTDs are pretty infrequent and predictable. So far a quicksave, open door, CTD, load, open door again makes it work just fine and I can live with that (Helgen Reborn custom areas seem to be the cause). I also have umpteen tabs open in chrome of mods to try out as soon as I'm done with Helgen Reborn. Thanks for the hotkey tip; was that added in SkyUI or am I just a tard and managed to go 190 hours of vanilla Skyrim without noticing that you could hotkey stuff? Lol. I do buy spells, they're way too infrequent in loot. It's pretty fun to blast someone with dual lightning bolts but on a difficult bad guy who resists really well and takes maybe 15 double bolts while my followers can kill him with 3-4 chops of their axe... well, it makes me want to play with some other alternate start mods and re-roll as a melee again. As a caster, I'm basically support for my followers. It works and it fits with lore imo. I grabbed project ENB and that really helped the character textures pop and look great now. There's a lot of other things that it kinda ruined though, so tweaking is in order. It has a list of recommended mods surrounding flora and lighting, so I'll go through those as well. I feel I need something for shadows, water, and lighting to really get the look right. Then I'll go for textures or maybe the other ENB (I went with the one that said it wouldn't hurt FPS much due to my high resolution setup. So far, no problems so maybe I can try the other and see what happens) or both. There's also still a lot of stuff I have installed that I either haven't crafted yet or haven't found so I'm not completely done testing what I've got installed. I am, however, starting to get hold of the "fun" of mods. I wish I had the patience to teach myself how to create mods but maybe that's something for next winter. Anyway, I was going to say that I almost feel like a game developer. Not a legit one, of course, but taking the vanilla content then piecing together a custom bunch of modifications really makes the game feel like it's mine. So, goodbye free time. I probably won't do DA:O because it was really crashy but when I tire of Skyrim modding I've got Fallout 3 and New Vegas to do as well. This was the result I was really hoping for. Thanks guys.
  18. They don't actually break the immersion, they just make me feel pervy a little :P If someone is dead and I steal their armor and leave a naked body behind, that's okay with me. One last question: If I use NMM and press deactivate on all my mods, is that going to give me a clean as-stable-as-Bethesda-gets version of the game or do I need to use some tool to clean things up after? Should I run the re-verify of files on Steam or anything?
  19. Alright, I have some work to do. A few of those screenies are pretty impressive! Still not 100% sure on the character textures, and here's why: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/32329/? So, if you have to have the skintextures already in order to use the "normal map," that implies to me that there's layers. I'm not saying I'm right, I just don't fully understand it and the quoted text is what threw me off. If I need to get a skin texture and a normal map AND a body mesh, that's fine and I'll start looking for them all. If I'm confused... well, it won't be the last time.
  20. Thanks very much for a well detailed reply. What precisely is an ENB? Secondly, when looking at body textures am I right in saying there's two layers to a body? So I need to find a good base layer (maybe the one with UNP is fine) then add a ... I dunno... detail layer on top (maybe this is where UNP is weak)? I've still got CBBE downloaded so if someone can clue me in on a good armor pack it won't hurt my stupid data cap.
  21. Just had a little moment where I realized Skyrim might not actually be an island. I assumed it was many years ago and never bothered to check. Looking at the map, it's probably not.
  22. Prelude: this got much longer than I thought. You don't need to read the whole thing. If you're a subject expert at something, just read that part. I'm pretty new to this, been fiddling around with Skyrim mods and Dragon Age Origin mods for about a week and it's been fairly disheartening. I use NMM and BOSS with really only one CTD problem so far. The problem is just finding stuff that makes enough of a difference to be worth the hassle. Here's what I've done so far and what I'm hoping someone can help me find. Graphic enhancements: I have metered internet so I didn't just download every texture pack known to man. I think the Skyrim graphics are pretty acceptable in the first place, but I did want to see what was available to help it out a bit. I've tried Wet and Cold - it's alright. Pure Waters - I couldn't tell a difference so either it didn't work or I don't pay that much attention to water. Uninstalled. What I'd like is something that's not going to be 1GB to download and maybe helps out the plant textures or the shiny effect vanilla Skyrim has (I never liked that look, thought it was a bit overdone). I do play in 3600x1920 so maybe a larger texture mod is what I need but... if it's huge, I'll have to wait until the end of the month. I haven't tried any of the sky/weather/lighting mods either, they just don't look that amazing to me. Let me know if I'm wrong. Character enhancements: This being my third playthrough, I found Quick Start to be awesome. I know there's one that people say is better but it was a huge download as it has an alternate start, rather than just skipping Helgen. Secondly, I wanted to try getting more magey this time so I grabbed Apocalypse. This seems to be kind of cool but I haven't found any spells yet so far that really help me out a lot. It almost needs a numbering system like MMORPGs use for casting because there's so many spells you could use in a single fight, plus some need very fast reactions, that having just M1 and M2 doesn't cut it. I'm using Experience Choice at 4x which is also very nice for someone who has already played the game a lot. Cloaks of Skyrim is my favorite so far (plus the backpacks), making the characters feel much more finished and wintery. If there are any other must-have mage mods, I haven't found them. At level 20 (with 4x experience) I'm already getting bored of being a caster so I need something. NPC enhancements: I don't like nudie mods or uber unrealistic armor for the sake of showing a little leg. That said, I do like NPCs to be attractive. Skyrim's people are.... homely... for the most part. I installed CBBE and ended up getting rid of it as it makes everything just too dang smooth and unrealistic. I also tried the top-rated armor addon set for CBBE where you can add neck pieces and thigh guards and whatnot. Every. Single. Chest. Item. Comes. With. No. Pants. Seriously? Uninstalled them both and am now trying UNP because it seems to have more stuff available for it. Also have Ethereal Elven Overhaul and ApachiiSkyHair, both of which are very nice. But, I'm still lacking something. The people aren't very attractive, they're still too smooth and fake looking. My guess is I need different textures and maybe some armor packs. Which ones? A quick search gave me lots of options but no real guidance. Followers: I tried Advanced Follower Tactics and soon learned that I don't really give a crap about what my follower does. They need to just look cool and carry my extra stuff. If they happen to tank a couple Thalmor while I destruct them with lightning bolts, cool. If there are any followers that are really quite interesting, I'd be game to try them. Also, if there's a way to get some better dialog with followers, I think that would be more realistic. Content: I've done the destroy the Thieves Guild thing, was somewhat fun (had to put the difficulty waaay down as a level 13 caster) and am currently in Helgen Reborn. Will probably try Wyrmstooth and Falskaar. What else adds new experiences to the game? Can I open shops? Start a college? Become a Jarl (going to try the Ivarstead one)? Ride a dragon? Be a ship-faring pirate (that's a damn good idea, a quick search suggests Pirates of the Pacific may be worthwhile)? Have five wives and try to keep their existences secret from the others? Become a priest/priestess? Destroy a major city? What's left: I thought it would be easy to find a new and fun race to play, but I didn't find anything. I tried the Sandmer but they look waaay different on my machine than they do in the screenies and I didn't feel like playing a green character so I uninst'd. Most races on here are just designed to add sex to the game, it seems. I was interested to try the Lunari but as a caster it seemed silly. Same with Ningheim. Additional armor and weapon packs. I thought these would be everywhere. I see several replacement packs but not many originals. I have immersive armors (causes my CTD issues if I equip barbarian armor) but will wait until the end of the month for immersive weapons. Even so, you never see the armor on NPCs, rarely find the armor on them (and why did they even have it when they didn't equip it?), so it hasn't altered my gameplay hardly at all. Plus, I don't want my mage to spend all his time at the forge. I would like to get some additional items scattered around the island, especially mage gear, without having to craft it all. Removal of Soul Gems. Entirely. I shouldn't need to capture someone's essence to make an enchanted item, I'm a badass mage. I shouldn't have to recharge enchanted items after I smack someone a whole 4 times. It's super inconvenient and I'd be okay ruining the lore to see them go away. At the very least there must be a cheat that lets me reuse a soul gem or something. I haven't found anything good. Other stuff that I think would make life more immersive; maybe these exist and maybe they don't: Ability to hire a maid/cook/whatever. If you have a house in every single hold and you only go there for 18 minutes per week, someone needs to keep that fire lit and fed. Prices need fixed. A sword would take a blacksmith probably half a day to make (total guess) and sells for like 15 gold. Then I walk in and sell 20,000 gold worth of random crap that I looted to that same guy. I'm not saying I want merchants to have less money, I'm saying the sell/buy prices of everything in the game need to be brought really low. Who is going to count out 20,000 gold pieces? Correct, no one. Force bartering on expensive objects and make it so most everything can be bought and sold for under 250g. Disguises. If I waltz into Windhelm wearing Imperial Armor, they probably should kill me. However, if I'm an Imperial and wearing Stormcloak gear, they shouldn't know me by face unless I've got some kind of rep in that city.
