  1. Hello! I am Osvir on the forums ^^

As stated in the Mod Requests sections I made a topic about "Baldurs Gate Remake" (read more about that in this thread right here).. Although a response I got told me "there is copyright issues" so I abandoned it, only to begin anew with another project. What I am aiming for is a mini-expansion, with a new area (map) to explore with a few quests and similar. New PC characters and such. Perhaps I might even add more content to it, -if- it becomes popular or even -finished-.

Nonetheless I have barely scratched upon the surface of the Mod. I am currently working with the "concept" of the map-it is not nearly finished. You can check it out here. I still need to do some vegetation, structures, details, mountains, higher grounds etc. etc. a lot of refinement.. I call it Khalgarim Bay. I will explain some of the story of the area a little further down.

So why do I post this here if it isn't nearly finished?

I am like Duncan looking for recruits =P if anyone is interested (-Anyone-) in a Joining (=P) with this ritual... err... project. Please do respond. Or if you're slightly interested and want to hang back a while until the project has truly begun to spin (which it, at this stage, has not).

My Experience with the DAO Toolset

Honestly? 1% out of 100% one could say, which is basically none. And I do know this project is a bit "dramatic" and/or "ambitious" for one who doesn't know much. That's one of the reasons why I want to do this "big" project. To learn.

    The Plot of Khalgarim Bay

Your character finds him-/herself here without a clue how he/she got there. Waking up in a mental hospital called the "Estate". Khalgarim Bay, the whole area, is going to be a place in turmoil (not because of darkspawn) due to over-population, a den of thieves, blood mages (that basically rule this "nation") and similar haywire. Oh and people at Khalgarim Bay dislikes Grey Wardens. A lot. There will be darkspawn present, although not many of them (well... that is until a certain triggering point of the story >=D).

The plot is, in short, basically your character running around trying to figure out where he/she is and how he/she got there, helping against this turmoil, or destroy even more for them (>=D). Sorry for not giving you any novels or similar still working on it. Well I could give you an excerpt:

"From Blood thou hath been Born. Demon. We can't have that. Can we? Demon. You shall be purged. Just like the rest of them. Demon. You may call yourself Grey, but I can see what boils within you. That crimson river that pumps throuugh your veins! That bitter, sweet hunger which lingers, feasting upon your soul. Demon. They call you a Warden? Yees, yes indeed. I... however... agree to... disagree. Now you die Demon." - Oder, the Blood Mage

Thank you for reading and I hope it gave you some humor

    -Osvir

P.S I will be working on a "homepage" (a forum rather) for this project as well. And there will be, hopefully, frequent updates on that page. I will edit this post, or post a response later with the link to that site.

  2. Thank you DrakeWolf for your ideas and thank you for providing links! Much obliged. Even though, as you said, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for.

And thank you Skadis, for filling in that one too. 5 warriors if you create a player warrior as well =P

I know about that Dual Wielding 2-Handed Weapons mod. But I never installed it, dunno why (I did finish the game and became a bit "meh" about replaying).

What I am looking for really, narrowing it down, is a change in either Sten or Ohgren. And Lelianna.

Two or three more skills that make them unique in battle. These are the kind of ideas I got, and it's more of idea discussion rather than an actual request at this point from my side:

    Sten Talents:

    Qunari Will:

Aura - Makes Sten intimidating, lowers enemy defense and party defense (except Sten of course)

    Passage of Qun:

Activated/10-15 sec duration - Asala Only - Sten attacks faster and harder.

    Ohgren Talents:

    Drunken Haze:

Sustained - Ohgren attacks harder, takes more damage.

    Hangover =P

Semi-Activated/After Drunken Haze deactivation - Ohgren becomes stunned for 3 sec, attacks even harder than Drunken Haze, misses more for 10-15 sec.

    Lelianna Talents:

    Again, Throw Daggers =P

  3. I believe it could be possible to remake the items. When the time comes that is. They might not look the same and similar, but they may be named the same, have the same stats and similar. So I think that could be a solution Stratified. Imho good that you brought this up, will be interesting to see how Bioware will utilize this. I mean people paid for the DLC so I'd be surprised if they left it out.

What Bioware stated was that it wouldn't ship over with your character, according to you. That makes me believe the items will still exist in the game. Though not (again) with your new/imported character.

  4. Oh alright, thanks Marbatico and Baracuda ^^ there are quite some files already on nexus (must've missed some stuff+hadn't have had the proper time to check everything. What with new stuff popping up regularly).

What about one-handed hammers though? Could it be possible to switch a sword blade with a maul hammer model? Or scale down a maul model and fit it in one hand?

  5. I wouldn't mind seeing some One-Handed Hammers =D

    http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/attachme...or%20hammer.jpg

    That's just one example....

And what about "no" weapon at all? But a ring (mage weapon only), so they shoot a projectile from their palms or something instead of the regular "staff" type wielding mage. I don't know if I make any sense with this one but meh... thinking "Star Wars" and Emporer Lightning thingy as my best example of what I mean.

And some smaller daggers! What is up with the 3 feet daggers in DAO??

  6. Hmm, how about finding Eleanor strung up to a wall, naked (not that it would be attractive but for the purpose of my next sentance), bloody and scarred. Tortured in other words. Probably blind and etc. etc. after all, the Dragon Age (the era, and overally the game) seems to be a bit "adult" and "mature" towards blood, gore and... well... violence.. and Howe (as I said in my previous post) doesn't seem to be a kind man at all.

You could have a conversation with Eleanor, "Kill me" she could say. And if you're of the Human Noble origin "Son... kill me". The dialogue however should perhaps be something more "interesting" than that. If you would decide to use this idea.

Iona, I think, should survive though. Perhaps you can find her in a mabari cage =P and get her in your party or something... oooh... she could have a unique class (now I'm going way ahead of myself >=D) = Valkyrie. Or Avenger.

Her Party Quest could be to hunt down 10-20 of Howe's men to butcher. There. Idea rant over =P

  7. Oh I did not know... well... that's a bummer :P it wouldn't be impossible to re-construct the world with different names, dialogues and quests then? Or similar quests, though a bit different? One could call the game differently as well. Though there's mayhaps a bit too much lore to cover T-T ah well I'll just do my other project then...
  8. Oooh nice. I like. I missed that actually. Though, "Return to Highever" sound a bit "Return to Ostagar"-like. No ill intended. Maybe try "Assault on Highever". Or perhaps "Operation Highever".

Question is... what would happen if you did this before Denerim? How would Howe (ooh funneh) react? I like the idea of Iona surviving, but I doubt Howe has mercy enough to let Lady Teyrna survive. There could be a ghost if the Hero is from Highever, and none if the Hero is not. Maybe? I dunno.

  9. Sure, Dragon Age: Origins consists of a world full of warriors. But still! I was discussing with a friend and we quickly realized that "There needs to be either more characters or more skill trees!".

    Character Reviews:

    - Sten, Warrior, Two-Handed Weapons

"Sten is awesome, in my opinion, but he is very "boring" in battle. He is no different from Ohgren in my opinion."

Idea of Sten would be to change his "Two-Handed Weapons" into "Two-Handed Swords".

    * Two-Handed Swords, Sten Unique Skill Tree (Replacing Two-Handed Weapons)

    - Ohgren, Warrior/Berserker, Two-Handed Weapons

"Ohgren is also a favorite, much like Sten. But his build gets rather boring as he feels and acts in such a similar way like Sten in battle."

Two ideas. When Ohgren, or a Berserker, goes into "Berserk" mode. You can't control that character for a set duration of time. Damage more, takes more damage. Also, instead of "Two-Handed Weapons" it could be "Two-Handed Axes".

    * Berserk Mode

    * Two-Handed Axes, Ohgren Unique Skill Tree (Replacing Two-Handed Weapons)

    - Alistair, Warrior/Templar, Sword & Shield

"Nothing should be changed with Alistair. He is different in his fighting style. And you can even, if you have two warriors with sword & shield (Like I did) you can build Alistair and the other warrior completely different."

    - Morrigan, Mage/Shapeshifter

"Should not be changed in my opinion. She is unique and her build, naturally, becomes different from Wynne's or main character Mage if you do not effortly try to make her into the same as Wynne or main character"

    - Wynne, Mage/Spirit Healer

    "Same thing as with Morrigan"

    - Leliana, Thief/Bard

"Leliana is a rather boring character in my opinion. She starts out with Bow skills. And she talks about throwing daggers when you want to learn the Bard Specialization. How wrong is that?"

Ideas, give her a "Throw Daggers" Skill Tree. And anyone learning Bard will also get that Skill Tree.

    * Throw Daggers, Unique Leliana Skill Tree

    * Anyone becoming Bard learns "Throw Daggers" Skill Tree. Though not as good as Leliana's

    - Zevran, Thief/Assassin

"Zevran is really cool. I used him a lot. I liked him a lot as well. But he wasn't that much of a difference in combat as any other dual wielding character."

Ideas, give Zevran either a unique single dagger styled skill tree or a unique dual wielding skill tree that only he can use. Also giving him more or more stealth/assassin like abilities

    * Single Dagger Skill Tree OR Dual Wield Unique Skill Tree

    * Assassin Unique Skill Tree

These character ideas are simply, and really, to make the party more unique.

    * If you have Ohgren instead of Sten there would be a real difference. Having both of them they could act in different manners as well at a further extent.

    * Making yourself a Thief Bow user or Warrior Bow user would make your character and Leliana differ, due to her dagger throwing skills.

    * Zevran would be more Assassin like, making it possible for your Thief/Assassin and Zevran being in the same party at the same time. AND be different and fulfill different purposes in the battle.

    Additional Characters:

    - Jowan, Mage/Blood Mage

"Jowan was a character I was expecting to see in my party. What with the abundance of warriors. But I did not, which was a bit saddening imho."

    - That Pirate Chick I don't remember the name of, Thief/Duelist

"Though I did not expect her in my party when you met her. She was a duelist. She could really strengthen the party and the lack of the 3rd Thief."

    - Swiftrunner, Warrior/Werewolf

"I mean, werewolf. What else can I say? ^^"

The general idea of adding, Jowan, Pirate Chick and Swiftrunner would even out the numbers (currently, 3 warriors, 2 thieves, 2 mages, 2 creatures. With my ideas here on the forum it would be 3, 3, 3, 3).

    Additional Skill Trees/Weapons:

    - Two-Handed Mauls, for Champion

"Bashing, stunning and strong against golems and similar"

    - Two-Handed Axes, for Ohgren (Only)

"Dunno what it would be good for really, other than I thought it fitting for a Berserker like Ohgren >=)"

    * Strong Arm (Passive) Makes it possible for Ohgren to Dual Wield Two-Handed Axes >=D

    - Two-Handed Swords, for Sten (Only)

"Sweeping attacks, pushing enemies back and knockbacks"

    * Charge (Sten charges into the enemies with his shoulder, pushing them back. Or something I dunno)

    * Paddle (Hits with the blunt side of the blade, pushing enemies back)

    - Throw Daggers, for Bard

    "Self explanatory. Right?"

    - [Weapon] One-Handed Hammer

"I don't know why, but whenever I play Baldurs Gate. I make an uber tank. And eventually he always have a hammer in his hand. I really miss the one handed hammers in Dragon Age Origins.

  10. Hello! So I've been looking into the DAO toolset a bit since I first finished DAO, then began playing BG from the beginning. Suddenly it struck me what a bad ass game Baldurs Gate would be in the DAO engine.

So I was thinking of starting a project. The plan:

1st Step: Making the world, with world map and all the areas, you would be able to run around in the world. Except there would be no enemies, no npc's no quests etc. etc. simply a super super Alpha Beta production which shouldn't be too hard to create.

2nd Step: Making the Main Quest, making it very basic "Talk to that person, then that person, then that person" etc. etc. again no monsters. Only the main course of the story. Unlocking the paths (Going west at High Hedge would unlock the Lighthouse etc. etc.)

3rd Step: Updating and upgrading the Main Quest path. Basically advancing the 2nd Step further, adding monsters and similar to the main quest. Problematic for me myself, as I have no modelling experience at all.

4th Step: Adding the NPC's for Side Quests and doing the basic outlines for the Side Quests (like Step 2)

5th Step: Updating and upgrading the Side Quests. Like Step 3.

6th Step: Adding PC characters and PC Quests.

That's about how far I've run it through my head. There are probably 10-20 more steps to take, but I shouldn't go too ahead of myself. If you have any ideas or thoughts. Please post and I shall do my best to answer them.

My main job on this project is really going to be to start it, kick it going, so to speak. What I am going to do is making all the areas, the world basically. Then I am going to give it to interested parties and if they feel like finalizing it or whatever. They can do so. Because starting from Step 3 I would be a useless addition to this project. Though that depends, I might learn a lot from working with the DAO toolset.

Yet again, please post your thoughts and similar.

    EDIT/UPDATE:

I drew the world map, not finished but it is a small step in the right direction =P

    Custom Sword Coast Map

Custom Sword Coast Map(Filtered with Fresco)

Custom Sword Coast Map(Filtered with Fresco, river colored afterwards)

    Original Sword Coast Map

As you can see my picture has some "major" changes. I was generally thinking "Who wants to make an exact copy?". So some positions of some areas will be shifted, intentionally and some due to the shift in landscape (compared to the original). I will also make custom made PINS for each area.

What do you think? Should one use the original? Personally I would not want to use the original because I am a creative person and I don't like plagiatrism (spelling?).
