The option to approve people or not when they add you should be on by default.

Welcome to the community! It took me five seconds to google this. The answer from Pete Hines himself is, "Basically, yes." http://www.pcgamer.com/existing-skyrim-mods-will-be-almost-fully-compatible-with-the-special-edition/ -

In response to post #23719594. To me at least it's not a question of whether they're 'worth' a certain amount although I would argue that -most- (but not all) mods are pretty worthless, Sturgeons law being what it is but as far as why it's important mods remain free...well like Dark0ne has pointed out-it's more than just about playing games. It's about expressing creativity and sharing the experience. It's like a bunch of artists creating together in a commune. What happens when you go from the primary motivation being shared creativity to the primary motivation being money? I dunno...it's definitely a tricky situation but not everyone is saying modders are worthless or their mods have no value. Only idiots and people looking to take advantage of others are saying that.

I am, too. I think this all could have been easily avoided. I suspect they really had no choice but to do this, but that doesn't mean we can't all give them a second chance (well, with some folks you might. I can't claim to speak for everyone, and don't). Kreisher..modders can be your best friends, or your worst enemy. You've seen a bit of the latter..don't blow this. You've got some amazingly creative and inspiring people here. . I'd love to come back in a few months and see you working with modders in order to foster a community full of creative people inspiring other creative people. No matter what, tho, i'm sure that I don't need to tell you that we'll all be watching.

I'm going to chime in here and recommend that if you can find a copy of Hellgate:London, a really underrated third/first person action/rpg, you can get a fan patch from the Hellgate:Revival forums (Revival patch 1.2.1 I think is the most current, tho there's been talk of a 1.5 patch in the works, but it might take awhile for them to finish it, as they have to completely rewrite their mod installer). It fixes a LOT of gltches, bugged quests, and rewrites some of the quest text so that it matches up a lot more with the settng and the storyline from the books, tho you don't need to have read any of them to follow along with the story. Here's a link to the page with the patch download, tho I recommend perusing the Faq section. http://www.hellgateaus.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=4 Here's the link to the current version of Reanimator, their mod/patch installer http://www.hellgateaus.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=69 There's also a really awesome mod called Lost London 2.0, with a 3.0 in the works.

Wether you planned on charging for mod access or not, you still uploaded material that is covered by copyright. Bethesda/Runic/anyone who gives others permission to modify their work, have a copyright on the materials they created, and the materials the mod creators create is copyright them. Most developers that allow modding grant licenses to the people who want to mod their game. Right there, you're in trouble. You might be allowed to download but you're in no way legally allowed to redistribute without specific permission. All this frustration with the fact that people are standing up for their rights has no justification. You broke the law-deal with it, and just be glad that the only thing you have to deal with for now is bad publicity, instead of having to spend money on a lawyer, or having your ISP shut you down due to a flood of DMCA takedown notices. ISP's tend to frown on their servers being used for anything illegal.

Yes, please be 'polite' and kill them with kindness, and through legal means. I didn't intend this to cause people to sink to their level in order to get back at them. Word of mouth and mod creators using legal means in order to get copyrighted materials removed is going to do far more harm to this site than any other kind of action, no matter how well intended. I see this sort of thing happen in the furry fandom all the time. Content is stolen from art sites such as Furaffinity and reposted on websites without permission. I guess this is why I felt so strongly about this. Not only have I been able to get so much more enjoyment out of my games due to people who mod, but I happen to be friends with a few artists who have had their artwork ripped off and used by others to make a profit. it pisses me off. Still..please don't let this dude rattle you. You have rights as content creators, learn them and use them to your advantage. Also, someone brought up letting Bethesda know. By all means, modders. Get in touch with the companies who are gracious enough to share their creations with you and allow you to modify them and let them know that someone is showing them AND you an enormous amount of disrespect.

I didn't say 'had to pay' I said it LOOKED like they were doing this and setting it up so that they could eventually charge for it. They've got a few places in the TOS where they're basically trying to make it so that anything added to their site belongs to them, and that at some point if they want to charge for it they have every right. http://gmod.com/tou "lympus Entertainment may from time to time offer items other than software, content and services for purchase via GMOD (e.g., apparel, books, posters, etc.) ("Merchandise"). Olympus Entertainment may offer Merchandise together with or separate from Subscriptions, but such Merchandise is incidental to Subscriptions and the predominant purpose of GMOD is and shall remain the provision of Subscriptions and services related thereto. All offers to purchase Merchandise via GMOD are made and accepted subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement. Your communications with Olympus Entertainment or submission of any purchase order or other similar forms containing provisions contrary to the terms of this Agreement or the terms presented by Olympus Entertainment during purchase of Merchandise via GMOD are hereby rejected and are not binding on Olympus Entertainment." It's the 'together with or seperate from subscriptions' part that made me think. "7. USER GENERATED INFORMATION "User Generated Information" means any information made available to other users through your use of multi-user features of GMOD or to Olympus Entertainment through your use of the Software. User Generated Information may include, but is not limited to, chat, forum posts, screen names, game selections, player performances, usage data, suggestions about Olympus Entertainment products or services, and error notifications. Subject to the Olympus Entertainment privacy policy referenced in Section 1 above, as applicable, you expressly grant Olympus Entertainment the complete and irrevocable right to use, reproduce, modify, create derivative works from, distribute, transmit, broadcast, and otherwise communicate, and publicly display and perform the User Generated Information and derivative works thereof in any form, anywhere, with or without attribution to you, and without any notice or compensation to you of any kind" Also, this made me giggle "GMOD® Terms of Use Agreement This made me giggle "D. Restrictions. Except as otherwise permitted under Section 2© with regard to the SDK, you may not, in whole or in part, copy, photocopy, reproduce, translate, reverse engineer, derive source code, modify, disassemble, decompile, create derivative works based on, or remove any proprietary notices or labels from the Software or any software accessed via GMOD without the prior consent, in writing, of Olympus Entertainment. You are entitled to use the Software for your own use, but you are not entitled to: (i) sell, grant a security interest in or transfer reproductions of the Software to other parties in any way, nor to rent, lease or license the Software to others without the prior written consent of Olympus Entertainment; (ii) host or provide matchmaking services for the Software or emulate or redirect the communication protocols used by Olympus Entertainment in any network feature of the Software, through protocol emulation, tunneling, modifying or adding components to the Software, use of a utility program or any other techniques now known or hereafter developed, for any purpose including, but not limited to network play over the Internet, network play utilizing commercial or non-commercial gaming networks or as part of content aggregation networks, without the prior written consent of Olympus Entertainment; or (iii) exploit the Software or any of its parts for any commercial purpose." It just seems to me that they're taking all these mods in order to beef up their site and make it look impressive, without having to do things the hard way and build and reputation so that they can make a fast buck. If you folks go to the thread over on the Runic forums, you'll also see how the CEO hasn't bothered posting anymore.

Im sorry for any confusion I may have caused with the title of this thread. I didn't mean to imply the Nexus was guilty of any wrongdoing.

If everyone could please spread this info around to whatever modding sites your a part of. Not only is this guy stealing mods, he's also been stealing the bandwidth of the websites he's been downloading stuff from. I'm hoping to get the word out to a few other places, If anyone has any suggestions on where to best post my original post at, i'd appreciate the info.

Hello all. The names Zid, and I'm a regular over on the Runic Games forums. A few weeks ago, the webmaster of both the Runic games forums AND the Runic Games Fansite, Webbstre, noticed that someone was downloading every single mod hosted by the Runic Games Fansite. He eventually found out that it was this site http://gmod.com/ , and apparently, the CEO of the company hosting the site has been having the people working on his mod hosting site upload peoples mods from sites like the Nexus's and RGF, without the mod owners permission, Here's the discussion thread about it http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18042&hilit=gmod This includes where the CEO came in and tried to defend his theft of other peoples mods. I just wanted to bring this to your attention, as the Nexus and other modding sites like it have made it possible for me to enjoy many of my games far more than I would have been able to if noone had ever made any more. I think that what this guy is doing is pretty dicked, especially considering most of you release mods to the public for free, and this guy intends to eventually charge for people to use the site once it's live. If you guys don't think it's right for someone to use your mods to promote their companys site without your permission, let this guy know that he's infringing on your copyright! Changed the thread title so people didn't misconstrue "this site" for meaning the Nexus ;) --Dark0ne

Total Conversion/Remake (fallout 1)?
zidders replied to TyrisBel's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
I would love to see a mod like this, but unfortunately, it would just be too much time and work and just end up like most full scale mods do, nowhere. BTW, Valve didn't shut down the zombie source mod. Valve saw the mod in progress and scooped up some of the team who were doing it, it's the mod that became Left4Dead.
