I'm having a heap of issues as well with 1.8. Steam magically turned on it's auto-update. I don't play the game without mods, many of which require SKSE, so in order to play, I had to downgrade the game back to 1.7, however, something that 1.8 installed that wouldn't be overwritten by reinstalling 1.7 really fubared the game up. I'm getting as low as 5 FPS in most places whereas I should be getting 30+.

I did search for this problem and only found one similar thread, but there was no confirmed solution and didn't want to necro the thread. After completing the quest the quest to retrieve the skeleton key, all NPCs in Whiterun except for guards and Lydia will no longer be interactable. Their AI scripts are still working, they react to my presence, I can attack them. But I never get the "E to talk to suchandsuch" to pop up. It comes up for items and containers, but not for NPCs. I tried going to Riften and tested it there and all NPCs were working normally. I went through the final section of the skeleton key quest twice and they both resulted in the same glitch. Reloaded a save before I went on that quest and everything is working fine. Was hoping someone knew what could cause this and a possible solution before I spend the 4 hours I lost getting back to that point to see if it repeats or if it was just a corrupted save somewhere in there.

This is caused by a mod conflict with the vanilla game. I've encountered it while using Castle Grey. It's the only mod I've personally seen that does it. If you are using Castle Grey, you will have to get all of your stuff out of it, disable the mod, and then you should get the next quest after finishing Taking Care of Business so that you aren't trespassing anymore. The mod author claims to have fixed this months ago, yet it happened to me last night. Sad, Castle Grey is such a wonderful mod too =/

I came across this thread earlier, when I was experiencing the same problem. The fix didn't work for me, however, so I am left with disabling dungeon/quest mods until a fix is found. From the looks of it though, it's a problem with the CK and not the mods in question for the most part. http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/659604-possible-fix-for-ctd-with-dungeon-mods/

Are you using any mods that add new dungeons to the game?

Got a question to expand on this, as I believe you stumbled upon a fix for a problem I've been banging my head against for the last week. Think it would be possible to fix .esm based mods by using wrye bash to first copy the esm to an esp, making change in TESVSnip, loading esp in CK, then copying the fixed esp back into an esm with wrye bash?

One thing I haven't seen mentioned, nor did you say if you've done so or not, was to delete the ini files in your My Games/Skyrim folder. I've had problems sometimes of mods making bad changes in them, and they don't revert when mods are uninstalled, nor are they deleted if you uninstall skyrim. Just a thought.

I've been banging my head against the wall for the last few days trying to get my Skyrim playable again. I did everything there was to do back in November, and shelved it until now while I waited for some quality mods to be released. Now though, I'm having some very strange crashes at the title screen that don't seem to be linked to any mod in particular. After a crash, I turn off random mods one at a time until it loads, as soon as it loads, i can exit and turn the mods back on and it generally works fine until i exit the game again, which then I have to go through the process all over again. I should add that once in game and playing, the game is stable for at least 4-5 hours before i get a random CTD which I am happy with putting up with if I can play more mods. My second issue is similar. I've found at least a dozen mods that, if enabled, cause my game to hang on the opening sequence after clicking new game. Always happens when Bethesda is fading out. Sound still works, can hear the wagon plodding down the trail. I've reinstalled the game completely, including disabling cloud and wiping my profile folder. I've changed hardware sound output settings. Updated video and audio drivers. DirectX is up to date. Have tried it on minimum graphical settings, and everything in between and still can not get rid of these problems. Have all skyrim executables and SKSE loader set to run as admin. Running AMD Phenom x2 3.1ghz geforce GT 430 2gig 10 gigs of ddr3 RAM Windows 7 ultimate 64bit Mods I use and have yet to have problems with (Have never turned these off while trying to get the game to load): Skyrim Monster Mod The monster mod collectible addition CBBE Slim version Oriental playable race. Black Sacrament RaceCompatibility Lost Art of the Blacksmith Dragonbone Weapons Complete Essential horses Faster Horses Unlimited Rings and Amulets Increased stamina and magika regen Midas Magic And Castle Grey Every single one of the mods that will prevent the game from loading are quest mods and new dungeon mods. Most don't add much aside from their own dungeon. It's just so frustrating, I really want to be able to experience the content these authors have released, but am unable to. Any help would be much appreciated. Skyrim is such a troublesome creature to get working right. Almost seems like it would be easier and less time consuming to recreate Skyrim within Oblivion lol.

I apologize, I didn't search, only glanced through the first page and didn't see anything.

Didn't know where else to put this, and didn't see a thread about it yet. From the little info available so far, it does sound promising as long as it stays true to the Elder Scrolls game style. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2012/05/03/june-cover-revealed-the-elder-scrolls-online.aspx

Starting to regret not putting more perks into Enchanting :(
shardiru replied to isamu99's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Since enchanting is kind of a pain to level up, I suggest using a trainer for 5 skill levels per character level. The trainer is in the college of winterhold, sergius something or other. -
Interest Check: Perk Freedom / Perk Rebalance
shardiru replied to LoneVandal's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I would absolutely love to see a return of Oblivion's skill based perk gain system. I personally like to build a master of all, and without having base stats anymore, leveling up kind of loses a lot of it's luster. Sure it's nice not having to micro-manage your leveling process, but in pursuit of simplicity, they got rid of a huge RPG element. -
The book is on an end table in the Cistern, by one of the beds. It really is a nice addition to the immersion of the thieve's guild.

I do agree that the scaling is kind of poopy in this game, but not because of their abilities or looks. It's just an utter lack of diversity, as is the norm with bethesda games. When some ambitious modder releases a monster mod for skyrim, I will likely have to change my underwear, as those have always been my favorite mods in all bethesda games.
