For DAI running on a 4K resolution display, it is very easy to visually "lose the cursor position" even if you select the "large cursor" in the Controls menu. While some existing DAI Mods can change certain GUI colors, I have not found any Mod that changes cursor size. In DAO and DA2, it was straight forward to locate the cursor icon files and "up-size" them to 64x64 pixels which worked nicely for 4K resolution. I would like to do the same thing for DAI, but have been unsuccessful in locating where DAI stores these cursor icons. Does anyone know which DAI file contains the cursor icons (and how to extract them) with the intent to make an appropriate Mod? Or does the "Frosty environment" do something weird like not using the normal Windows-style cursor icon files? Or am I simply missing something obvious? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Making Qunari Spoils Armor Useful, Please
dhague2cfo replied to dhague2cfo's topic in Dragon Age: Inquisition's Mod Ideas
Greetings "tirnoney": Personally, I would be overjoyed with a tier 1 Antaam-Saar with three defense slots and a max armor rating any where close to the "Prowler level". But I am sure that there are just as many Fem-Qunari players who would welcome a Shokra-taar close to the "Battlemaster level" (think Cass in Shokra-taar). I am sure that I and many other players would welcome anything that you chose to do in this area. And please allow me to express great appreciation for your other Inquisition Mods (I have already used more than a few of them). After having tried to use Mod-Maker, I am highly impressed both by the ability of the people who back-hacked Inquisition to create Mod-Maker in the first place and by the skill of anyone who can use it to create successful Mods. And I say that as someone who spent 35 years messing around with computers and software, even if I now feel somewhat obsolete. -
While nice looking the armors from Qunair Spoils DLC are not that useful. They are weak compared to other armors and you don't even get the "Superb" versions until level 16. I made multiple attempts to make a few simple Mods with the Mod-Maker Tool on this issue and totally failed. Here is hoping someone more competent can take pity on us "Fem Qunari" players. I see several Moding possibilities. One would be to modify "ip3_items_t1_lootdrop.ebx" to replace the "t1" recipes with the "t3" recipes. Another possibility would be to modify "ip3_recipe_light_1p_qunari_t3.ebx" to change some (all) utility slots to defense slots. Another possibility would be to modify "store_blackemporium.ebx" to increase the "Belt of Elements" to at least the "Superb" level. Any or all of these potential Mods would make playing as Fem-Qunari more enjoyable. Note that I tried all of these possibilities and failed badly with either a Mod-Maker crash or with the Mod-Manager refusing to merge my resulting DAIMOD files. So I must conclude that it will take someone significantly more skilled then I!

Mod File tagged with "yellow question mark"
dhague2cfo replied to dhague2cfo's topic in Site Support
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I remember the "news bit" but failed to connect it to the "yellow question mark". And I know just enough about server farms and web site software to hold the opinion that Nexus is doing an amazing job for the players and Mod authors. -
I think this is the correct place to enter this site question, but please forgive me if wrong. My DAO Mod project "The Wardens Women" (#4086) recently had the "file tab" tagged with a "yellow-circle/question-mark" which has a pop-up line of "This file has not been scanned for viruses". I would expect such a tag to discourage downloads. Is this a new Nexus policy for all Mod files? Or is it specific to my Mod file? And if so, is there something specific that I need to do? Thank you in advance for any answers.

Since I agree with most of the above replies, here is my "Modpatcher work-around". If you set "NUM_STARTING_SOLDIERS=40", you almost always end up with 12-16 females (low/high ranges that I saw were 10/19) and you can then dismiss all the males. The only drawback is that you may not end up with any ' female Squadie promotions" from the starting mission. IMO, a small price to pay for getting rid of the hulks.

After running XCOM-UE for over two weeks without any problems with ZoneAlarm Extreme Security (latest version), Suddenly ZoneAlarm declared some Steam files as "Trojans" and 'ate them'! I don't know if this was a result of a Steam update or a ZoneAlarm update. I did not think much of the Steam Support suggestion to 'just disable your protection software' when you want to run Steam. Steam would not even re-install as ZoneAlarm would eat the files right out of the install program. It took a bit, but I eventually figured out which files were the problem and excluded them from ZoneAlarm checking (see below). This situation did force me to re-install all my games (just love 10 hours of downloading), so I mention this problem here in the hope of saving someone else some pain! The Steam files that my ZoneAlarm saw as Trojans are: ...\Steam\vstdlib_s.dll ...\Steam\AppOverlay.dll

Maybe my memory or vision is failing, but in the opening cut scene (and I think on some others) the last fleeing civilian seems to be wearing the classic Converse "Chuck Taylor All-Stars" (which model dates back to the 50's). Is it an in-joke, product placement, or a suggestion that the lack of modern 'running shoes' can be fatal?

Since no one has mentioned it yet, I hope some skilled soul will soon attempt a Save Game Editor. While I agree that resource management is a critical game element of XCOM, I would argue that the scarce resources should be 'alien elements' and that the player should get enough cash to get at least 3-4 satellites up in the first month. To put it another way, XCOM should have a budget greater than the "UN party budget". Being an old "Hex Hacker" from way back, one of the first things that I did was to take a look at the internal structure of the save game files. To me it appears that the save game files consist of 'text' header and trailer sections with a middle section of compressed data using some 'custom' compression algorithm. It also appears that the save game file includes some form of hash error sum checking. While I was able to locate some values (cash, alloy, elerium, etc), any change would result in XCOM giving a 'corrupted file' error message when attempting to load the edited game file. But if I went back and edited the change back to the original value, that particular save game became loadable again. It will take someone way more skilled and experienced then I am to make an XCOM-UE save game editor. Here is hoping that such a person appears sometime soon!

For the first three days after getting my copy of XCOM-EU, I was being driven nuts by the Tactical Screen POV slewing to the area 'left' border whenever I was trying to move units. I could get back to the units by using the WASD keys but the resulting jitter made it almost impossible to properly control the soldiers. Searching the '2Kgames' forum finally gave me a hint. The fix was to disconnect the Joystick from my PC (Win7x64). Evidently, XCOM-EU adds up all available 'input devices' rather than just using the mouse and keyboard inputs. This problem may even have contributed to some of the 'lockups' that I experienced in the 'base screen'. I thought about posting this at '2K' but decided that it would be lost in the noise there. I hope this post saves someone else from my frustration level. PS Edit: After about another eight hours of play, I have had no further lockups in the 'Base view' either. So I consider this problem to be verified as solved (not that XCOM does not have other bugs!).

Bethesda sues Notch over the use of the word "Scrolls"
dhague2cfo replied to yoba333's topic in Site Updates
It will not be that long before every word in every language is 'copyright' owned by some corporation. But worry not! Your 'smart' cell phone will keep track of every word that you say and it will tell you how much you owe to each corporation for copyright fees!
