  1. Thanks I knew about the guards and creatures keying off your level. It can be annoying at times, but I have to say it keeps the game far more interesting than in TES3 where you could basically overpower everything in the game before you got close to finishing the main quest line. There's something very boring about being able to walk around pimp slapping everything without repurcussion... I was just worried about tweeking a new character too much to reach a high enough level to see everything in the Vanilla game.
  2. I just finished reading the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks! has anyone else read these? The author does a great job at character development, and presents some incredible ideas for character types and even quest lines that would mesh quite awsomely with Oblivion. I'm already putting together my rendition of a Night Angel character class template. If I ever figure out how to build my own quest mods, it would make an interesting new twist on the Dark Brotherhood aftermath, as well. :ninja: Any other applicable fiction suggestions out there? Maybe there's already a thread on this, too. By the way, I did look into purchasing the first Oblivion paperback, but was not going to spend $14 at a bookstore FOR A PAPERBACK!!!
  3. Does anyone know at which character level Oblivion opens its top tier of creatures/loot/etc...? I'm not asking what the highest level a character can attain is, which I know is capped by the character's ability to gain new skill levels. I'm asking at what level have you seen the worst Oblivion has to throw at you. You know, you go into a portal at level one and everything is stunted scamps and clanfear runts. You go back into a portal at level 20 and you're staring at Xivali and Spider demons! Also, what is the highest level of sigil stone, and at which player level are those present? feel free to foward me to another thread is this has already been discussed  Thanks!
  4. I've listed all the mods I have loaded that appear in the data files. When I loaded all of them I wanted to play, Oblivion wouldn't even load. Currently, I have only the X's turned on, and it boots up fine. I know I have some multiple lovel mods here, like deadly reflex and crowded roads. I only had one of each of those loaded. If you guys have any idea where my crash problem might be, I'm totally open to all comments. I can make my computer work the way it was designed to, but I have never been a "hacker" :ninja: I would really appreciate the help. 5. I actually got a DB to pick something up by just dropping it on the ground, a majic dagger and some boots. It was really fun to seclude him in a room with me, so no other NPCs were around, drop the item, and then just sit and watch for an hour and a hald (real time) waiting on the *censored* to pick them up. :verymad:
  6. I've only been playing vanilla companions. I was able to get fighters from the guild to follow me, also. I've loaded a few mods, but haven't played with any of them, yet, and non are companion mods. Are there any specific mods, off the Nexus list, you would recommend?
  7. Can you give stuff to companions, to make your little merry retinue a bit more fearsome? I've finished just about everything in the game, and now I have a couple of mages, fighters, thieves, and assassins following me around. Sort of trying to pull of the Inquisitor Eisenhorn gig :teehee: I also have hordes of magic crap that I haven't sold, because I have all the money in Cyrodill. Isn't there a way to GIVE stuff to one of my companions and actually have them use it? I tried reverse pick pocketing, which didn't work and just pissed of the companion... Fell free to direct me to an older thread, if it's been beat to death before. THANKS!!!
  8. I read a web-posting about giant Nirnroot plants scattered through Oblivion. Anyone seem one of these, and do they give you any extra benefit?
  9. This is very bad, man. Whenever I'm in Oblivion realm, if I'm in the last section of tower (the room where Sigil Stone is) and I'm wounded, I have to run all the way out of tower just to become undetected. However, I think there's a mod which fixes that, I guess. In that same situation, I could just go invisible and into sneak mode, and they would no longer detect me. They would still be in a state of alert, but the "detect" eye would fade after about 5 seconds
  10. Sorry about your crash, dude! Been there... took me a week to come back. I got pissed, after finishing the SI quest altogether, I returned to Xedilian for some fun. I was thinking that I would be able to mess with some interlopers, since it was supposed to be one of only two portals to my new realm. It was locked up. I could get into the front door and a few rooms, and that was it! I couldn't get anywhere inside and culdn't get the place to work again! Is this normal?
  11. I've loaded multiple mods, probably about twenty. When I went to play the next time, Oblivion wouldn't start, it just kept crashing. i turned half the mods off, and now it runs. I guess over time, I'll be able to figure out which one is the killer. I did notice when downloading the mods, however, that several of them share files of the same name. When asked whether I want to replace the old file, I always just said to "rename". Was that the right decision?
  12. As long as people much smarter than I continue to mod new realms, why can't we just keep playing Oblivion?!?
  13. I tried to trick the game by ending the Mage's Guild quest with the Guild leader still alive. He sacrifices himself to fill the black soul gem, normally. But, knowing this before hand, I had comitted murder most foul, and pre-loaded the black soul gem. Darn it, the fool went and sacrificed himself, anyway! :verymad:
  14. Same here, especially combining invisibility with sneak attacks and then vanishing again! :ninja: I was wondering if anyone knew of the actual stats of how blunt might negate armor or anything tangible. What did you mean by "more powerful overall..." That's the part I don't understand. A one-handed steel battle axe does less damage than a steel sword; a two-handed steel battle axe doe less damage than a two handed steel sword; and so on...
  15. I've always played swordsmen characters, and I've always noticed that bladed weapons always do more damage than their blunt counterparts. However, there must be some advantage to blunt weapons. I've looked through several guides and walkthroughs, and haven't found anything laying these out. Any info out there?
  16. I know someone here has figured out the shole Orc naming convention. Probably some of the same guys who can speak Klingon  (no offense meant) I'm actually going to play a non-brittonian character for once! i decided to GO ORC, but wanted a legit name for the big guy...
  17. If you have the Knights of the Nine package loaded, once you visit the Vile Lair, there's a guy that hangs out in the Inn at Weye, who has 2000 gold. You can invest 500 and up his total to 2500. No unofficial mods required
  18. I found a program that recognizes the other files as ZIPs, and extracts them. Thanks guys!
  19. when I downloaded the 7Z and RAR files, they came through as singular files. They didn't appear as ZIP files.
  20. I loaded several ZIP files, and extracted them to the Data folder. In turn, they show up under the Data portion of Oblivion start up, where I can turn them on and off. On the other hand, I also loaded a bunch of RAR files and Z7 files (not very familiar with this file type), such as COBL? These don't show up under the same Data portion of the start menu. Is this normal? will thew mods just work in the background, without turning them on and off? Thanks in advance
  21. Okay, I'm running Vista, and have never modded before, about to start. Is this process, above, absolutely necessary, or will the mods work if you do install them within the Oblivion Data folder, within program files?
  22. I just read about grabbing objects and being able to put them back where they came from (a book on a shelf, for example). Also, it mentioned being able to throw objects. Playing on a PC, is there any difference in GRABBING and just clicking the mouse to take an object? And how do you throw something, versus just dropping and item?
