In response to post #24756984. #24758359 is also a reply to the same post. I do have some faith, this community is old and strong. Even if if becomes a "tech support" "mod nursery" subsidiary of the Zenimax octopus. -

In response to post #24758289. I agree that there needs to be a form of quality control and regulation if they tried to do it again. I also honestly don't see the problem with having the best of both world's. Free/Donate mods everywhere else, paid/free mods on Steam. A modder can choose what they want to do then as the Nexus will act as a kind of nursery and then they can go on paid when they reach a set of standards (probably laid out by Bethesda). But I think the modder themselves MUST have the choice to charge or not. And to have files on both the Nexus and Steam. It just needed to all be properly thought out really and the corporates need to communicate better with their audience. -

I think maybe the sentiment from many was that they just were amazed that Bethesda was actually listening to the communites doubts on how the (badly) implemented system was exploititive and unregulated. I don't think they would have just taken it down because some kids were screaming death threats at people. There have been some very thorough and comprehensive discussions on all aspects of this over the weekend, all of which Valve and Bethesda (and some of the media) were watching and analysing. -
A suggestion on encouraging a system that recognises good and hard work. This might be very unpopular but could a ratio counter between downloads and endorsements have any help in this particular situation. Later on when a proper well thought out and unexploitative polite paying system is eventually introduced (because it more than likely will) it could be expanded to that as well as a form of quality control. The way it works, well it gives people a kinda nudge (limited downloads?) if they are deemed to be abusing the system. A better thought out version of how Steam tried to battle the stealing mod refund situation. Sorry copied this from my message in a the forum. Thanks SNB

I brought this up repeatedly over the weekend. This is a total legal minefield and it takes Bethesda to really look at their EULA and licensing before they trying pulling this off again. -

Just sitting here thinking about all this and realised how much what I am emotionally engaged in and feel like I am a part of affects what I am willing to spend money on. I think this is being forgotten sometimes in society in general as we are all being exploited on varying degrees. It can sometimes hard to see through the noise and it can take the potential of losing something that makes you value it that much more. -

I would like to ask exactly where the supposed line is drawn between a "content creator" and the other members of the community. It is almost as if some people are looking to implement some sort of hierarchy, which quite frankly I find very uncomfortable as it is the feeling of togetherness and contribution (non financial) that has attracted me to modding culture. I am all for people having the choice, that is what Nexus is all about, freedom and choice. If people are so intent on selling mods and lecture how all other "users" (not too keen on the term) should either pay for them or create their own mods, then doesn't the same argument work to say that the web is a free(ish) place so you are surely more than capable of creating a website of your own and demand money for mods there. Entitlement from either end of the spectrum is something of a disease in this money driven world. How about looking at one's enrichment and value in the world in non monetary terms? -

Bet you it was a f'ing nightmare here when things started out... come to think of it, there are still many volatile situations. One thing the people who run this site have compared to Steam and Bethesda, is experience in dealing with the massively dynamic world of modding. -

That is a rather minority stance here. I think you will find most people at the Nexus are in favour of the option to give back to those they want to give back to. EDIT: Isn't it actually technicaly, probably illegal to be even having these conversations now Bethesda has pulled the rug? -

In response to post #24741909. Cheers to that. I can't think of many developers who would u-turn like this. EDIT: However I will be wary in the future as trust works both ways. -

Is it not part of the issue that it is the forcing of money sucking financial structures that people are so aggressive with each other? The money we have is devaluing by the second and yet we have a net of more money sucking financial structures being thrown upon us. Would you support a paywall system here on the Nexus? The only reason there cannot be one is because Bethesda forbids it and they would be after the lot of us like a pack of wolves. Perhaps people forgot that the moment you uploaded mods to Steam you ceased any IP copyright you had over them. This is what I was fighting for the past couple of days. What is to say further down the line User Generated Content providers would not be hit by hidden costs? -

Then when people complain things don't work they have a scapegoat. I want as much of the money I pay for a mod to go to the person/s who created it. -

Isn't this about a sense of morality, which is what a community brings? Did people not see how quickly mods were ripped off and then flooded into piratebay? How has this been minimised in the past? By people looking out for each other and respecting each others work. I know it may not be a perfect system, and this weekend has shown there are things we can learn from, but it is probably one of the most creative and respectful gaming communities in the world.
