lmao this is hilarious, top troll OP - Mod authors do not owe you anything. They do everything for free. If they feel like never documenting anything they do ever again, that is up to them. no one owes you s#*!. - its been ONE WEEK since the game launched.. like calibrate your expectations a little.. my guess it the modders have experience modding previous Bethesda games and are using all kinds of hacks and f*#@ery to make things work. see for example this tool - https://github.com/fo76utils/ce2utils, forked from a tool made for Fallout now edited for use with starfield. but this is what its like working on the cutting edge/early days of _ANY_ project - there is very little documentation and you just have to figure it out. go on the discord, go on github, search a lot, try a lot of s#*!, piece it together. no one owes you a guide. to your burning question of HOW THE f*#@ DID THEY EDIT A NIF WITHOUT A TOOL?!@??! this is not a conspiracy to hide things from you - you can literally google .nif and find tools to edit them like addons for blender etc. maybe starfields NIFs are slightly different and they had to hack them or something, i dont know im not modder. but i am a software dev and know that just because there is no specialized tool to edit a file doesn't mean it cant be edited, it just might involve a lot of hacking and black magic that is hard to explain and document and probably only a few people understand. for example you can edit a SWF using JPEXS but its a decompiler and knowing how to edit them there is like a crazy arcane skill that would take a lot of background knowledge to understand and explain
