The undead keep lighting them for centuries!...honestly im not really bothered but considering nearly all dungeons are well lit, torches are kinda useless...if these catacombs would be the abyss of darkness as they normally would and the draugr wouldnt cause noise, that would be a nice horror atmosphere....maybe someone will make such a mod.

I was arround 34 i think on my first character, when i started the main quest...though i still havent finished it, started to play a bit my other one.

Well i have no problem with either of these threads, these forums are here so people can express their opinions...unless someone is forcing his/her view upon you its wrong,if not its just fine...plus i love to eat while reading these threads...popcorn anyone?

Yeah, radiant story system are just generic quests put on you, so you have the illusion there is always something to do, but they get old pretty quick since all of them are the same.
You cant really expect anything better when the game was developed 3 years...oblivion was developed 4-5 years and it was horrible, but then again they had to cut out many things...i wonder if actually a full uncut oblivion radiant AI and quests would kick skyrim @ss, becouse i dont see much improvement in skyrim.

How can something so broken and bug filled win GOTY?
Money / Name / hyped sheep people..if you have these 3 you can pretty much award anything.

Well i have tried a pure healing build with a bit of conjuration (first time playing a caster at all in a tes game..waaaw...yeah im that bored).
I picked some companion when i was doing quests, he is a typical warrior...sword and shield, i have to say i have a lot of fun, since i have no damage whatsoever and playing on master i have to make sure he stayes alive, i stay alive and also my summon to keep aggroing things plus i throw a paralyze spell here and there when things become messy, some circle of protection....its a lot of work, no pewpew /flex, since i have to rely on others.
I cant remember the quest, but it was about this warriors family tomb that some necromancer desacrated, a typical random quest to pewpew, well not with my build..took 40 min to finish that little dungeon as the undead kept swarming us and with my 100hp it was a survival.
This build is pure work, not for everyone i guess, but thats what its so fun about it, since the game makes everything easy for you.

I never bothered with dual wielding when I read that they can't block. Apparently no one Bethesda has never been to a medieval fair.
It was done to "balance" the fighting, since dual combat is all about damage, now if you would also be able to block, one-handed would be kinda useless, though they executed it poorly since they havent given us the ability to dodge..so its all about pewpewing others while being pewpew'd.

Bethesda won these awards rightfully.
If they didn't, where are the legions of other studios and companies pumping out games that are better than Skyrim?
It comes down to the fact that DESPITE being buggy, its still GOTY-quality.
And I seriously don't see any other game even approaching Skyrim.
You condradict yourself in this statement.
Its no secret why bethesda is being an awesome company, its thanks to the modding community...their games wouldnt be played such a long time without modders...because its them who fix their bugs all the time.
You also somehow misunderstood quality for quantity....these awards are for sheep folks who jump on anything that is presented by the media.

I have a theory as to why they keep breaking their word and delaying the release of the CK. They're just like Bioware, their "patches" are rubbishy and introduce a LOT of new problems, while barely fixing any of the old ones. They know that they're no good at it and they would be embarrassed if they released the mod tool and us users started patching their game better than they can.
Dragons flying backwards = colossal, epic failure.
I seriously wonder how much beta testers are actually valued or used in the video gaming industry. A lot of games these days have major, glaringly obvious technical problems that any beta testers couldn't have possibly failed to notice. Like here - seriously, how can anyone fail to notice dragons flying backwards?! It's also like in DAO, where the endgame sequence and epilogue was almost completely broken (which the devs never addressed in any of their patches). Beta testers, we need you! :(
:turned:
One thing about that, backwards dragons. came in with 1.2 which didn't give them much time to test. What i think they should do is relax take a bit of time to go over all the issues and get them fixed. also we the user's need to stop nagging at them over the stuff they know. There is nothing more annoying than hearing the same bsing reply to fix this or what they need to do. within a hour or two i am sure they know whats going wrong and needs fixing. Then you have several thousand people complaining so you must release a patch to fix things asap to hope it pleases them. but in which it seems to cause more for others and very few with no problems. To get success takes hard work, knowing what needs to be done, and learning from fails/mistakes.
:whistling: Sig.
The only problem is they arent really learning from their mistakes, these several thousand posts about the same things are there, becouse they arent doing anything about them and often break even that what was working.

Considering it didn't really have much worthy "competition" to begin with, it wasn't surprising. That said, Skyrim completely did not deserve it, and Bethesda definitely did not deserve Best Studio. Notice how they totally ignored the PC-exclusive Witcher 2? (note, I don't care who won, and I haven't played nearly as many hours of TW2 as I have Skyrim) Not a single nomination, because the entire concept of "Game of the Year" is based on sales numbers from consoles, not PC games at all. It's nothing more than a glorified popularity contest, and Bethesda had the lead there because they happened to be the most recent big name to sell a major sequel that didn't fall totally flat like the recycled FPS games or Zelda part 57 which relied on people having a console system that actually is less popular amongst the crowd that watches SpikeTV (how many grown men do you know with a Wii vs those with a PS3/360/PC?)
If you pay attention, the trend is appearing that more and more people are ignoring critics' sites and such awards, because we are seeing more often that these things are fabricated, paid off, or outright make no sense (9.5/10! But it has tons of bugs, this part doesn't work, this other part wasn't included, but it will be great in 6 months!)
+1

Saying all of the awards are the same is just what the losers say to make themselves feel better. ^_^
Its a fact, coming from an observation.

God i hope someone does...the only fps i cared for. :wallbash:

Does picking a race matter in game for special quest etc? I know on my orc it was quick and easy to get accepted into orc strongholds. Other then that I dont see anything that would stand out. Are there any unquie experiences for any of the other races?
No...there is no impact on being a different race, just a few different dialogues.
-
When you enter the DB first time and go down, you have members talking about their stories, from their missions and one of them says he was fighting a monk that had some martial art style
I agree the fighting style for each race would be different, the khajiit especially would be great martial art fighters.
All tes games beg to have some sort of interesting combat different from other race, i would really want to see that, but considering bethesda has always done a poor job with combat and animations...that will never happen unless someone else takes the lead...just my opinion.
-
Whats sad about this is, it shouldnt be like that in vanila game...the system should function and be balanced no matter what lvl...i really really wonder if bethesda played their game at all... no, would explain many things.

Sorry but i had a good laugh when reading the OP.
Do you maybe have an amulet of mara equiped that woke Aelas other...senses?

I'd suggest a day in the life of a werewolf.
That would be a wery fast writting of a story:
"So i transformed into a werewolf, thought i give it a try and go attack some village.
I get there, see already guards running towards me, i prepare myself for a good bloody fight, that will be fun!
Wait what!?...Dude, why is my hp going so quick down and yours not...im a F*king werewolf..a beast!...i should rip anyone apart!..wtf!
Quickload.

Immersion killer: Guard: "All hail the Dragonborn!...You smell like a wet dog." *walks away*
I'd like to think that not so many people know you're a Dragonborn. That's a bit hard to believe tho, especially since all the people everywhere seem to know what you did, where and when in detail.
So just remember... The true hero sacrifices everything for one person in a place where noone will ever know about it, not doing big deeds to earn respect of the masses... *cough*
True but in a game its different, one of the reason people play a game is the feeling of being needed, to be someone...ofcourse i dont want either that people come and bow to me 24/7, but they also shouldnt bash me when i just saved their as*es.
It's the typical radiant AI, once someone knows something about you, everyone does...this would i guess need some more coding and scripting...something bethesdas designers cant do, since they arent given enough time to make things properly.
-
Absolutely agree with OP.
Welcome to the ES Universe, a Universe you have to(if you care enough) save, but where you're nothing more than a skilled tool. Once things are back in their natural order, you simply vanish and then you have wait another 4-5 years for another ES game so that you can start this all over.
Yeah exactly this, i never felt like im part of the world bethesda made and honestly i dont believe any of their next games will break that trend.

Uhh sounds bad, i'm really glad i listened to my senses about vampires in skyrim, pretty much knew its gonna be totaly lame...would be cool to have some sort of hypnosis power as aoe effect, that you could cast in case of being chased by whole town...people would forget for about 5 sec whats going and in that time if you were able to hide...they would forget what happened completely.
Also force feed would be cool...its absolutely idiotic that the only way you can drink is when someone is sleeping...god bethesda totaly sucks in those things...its unapealing, uninteresting, unstylish and i dont know what else... :wallbash:

Aye! The thief folks really know suspense and horror! If it was done in Skyrim... HOLY SH-T! lol
Like in the cradle, sneaking through the shadows... think you're safe, then suddenly going around a corner with one of those "inmates" in your face! You yell HOLY Sh-tbricks WTF HOLY HOLY HOLY! you panic, with your mouse going all over the place and what you feel aint ingame fear... its REAL FEAR! Heh
Hell I miss that feeling so much, or having low health being chased by hammer haunts or inmates so scared of looking back and seeing a horror right in your face when you didn't expect him to be that close to you! lol
Oh... the memories :(
Can't wait for T4 myself! But if someone was to mod such an atmosphere into Skyrim... oh hell!!!
This reminded me...time to check on thief forums again...wasnt there a longer time.
I hope they preserve the awesome atmosphere of the series. :D
-
Yeah lol ...the cradle...i was sh-ting bricks when going trough that...the atmosphere there was nerve breaking...immagine it would be done this way in skyrim with the draugr and other vermin.
No happy jumping out of coffins, sounds/whispers and then when you least expect it... :ohdear:

Perhaps Skyrim being lacking in many respects is explained by the not very widely discussed fact that the Lead Designers from Morrowind, Oblivion, Shivering Isles and Fallout 3 decamped from Bethesda and have been working on Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. I spotted the game on Amazon.co.uk in my Recommendations and this paragraph from the blurb caught my eye;-
"Open World RPG Design Led by Ken Rolston – Play your way through 60+ hours of riveting storyline, diverse side quests, and open-world exploration created by RPG gurus Ken Rolston (Lead Designer, Morrowind, Oblivion), Creative Director Mark Nelson (Lead Designer, Shivering Isles; Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3), and Lead Designer Ian Frazier (Titan Quest)."
I been looking after this game from day one it was annouced...it looks really promising, it was planned as an mmo at first but then they decided to make a single player game out of it..im curious what the feel of the game will be...i hope not too mmo-ish, so far the combat/quest/crafting system looks awesome, also the diversity of the land looks great...im definitely going to save money for that one.
And as you said the good designers from beth went there...win :)
Im curious about the modability of the game though.
Also "It is being specifically designed for PC, Xbox and PS3 without any console ports."...yay!
