And it would also be nice if the range for seeing the loot icons was increased, ideally also being able to see loot through walls, so we don't have to get so close, to see the loot.

Have you had enough of not seeing loot even with the icon visible on the screen, due to the visual clutter of the game (which is in-character or in-universe, so not something bad on it's own)? One simple easy way to solve it is to have the loot icons blink or pulsate, in your field of vision. Not sure how difficult it would be to make such a mod. A more complicated way would be to show the loot icons in the quickhack overlay, because that would make the colored loot markers more visible.
