I think they will be better the problem now is the actual modders crying out laud how evil mod users are,do not realize they need to convince those users to actually buy their stuff, but instead of that they cry to heaven curse the mod users, is riddiculous you antagonize your future clients. Now as anyone thinking in becoming a modder for hire? i mean there are tons of ideas to make some money in this kind of stuff but all i see is people complaining and taking stuff too personally and looking at users as evil demos. Really the momment you arent happy in a Open source community is time to pack up and move on, leave the spot open for new talented like minded people come and take the place, and i bet we will see a lot of good mods in the future and the community will endure no matter how many "amazing modders" go it has happen before with oblivion and the community is still here, growing and evolving, so yeah i think is time a lot of people just move on. and really poor modders? anyone spending time making a mod for a game most have a least a more less decent computer and enough free time to spend it doing it plus an internet connection to upload the mod. if he has that then it is not a poor modder. and if by any chance it is poor and is losing he's/her time in making mods for a game for free then that person has a big problem of priorities

What you say is true, the elder scrolls community as always been an open source community sharing between everyone to create better stuff. With all the crying and saddness from modders, as anyone has stoping feel sorry for himiself and think. "Ok i want to make money out of this. Now, HOW im going to convince mod-users to pay for this?" Because in the end is they who are going to buy the mods, if not who else? because i doubt you sell as much as downloads you have in some of the most popular mods really. And the really whats chesko did uploading a paid mod without asking permission from Fore's was really a big mistake and bring another more urgent problem the stealing of work from others. and thast a big problem because all you have in this kind of community is your reputation and i bet that hurt him at least a little. So instead of whining and crying you need to start thnking how you will sell the idea to mod users (customers with money) to buy your mods because i suspect the next fallout or elder scrolls game will try this again. They see mods like a source of future income, and it can be a very lucrative one. As long the players are willing to buy mods.

Also ban trolls from your mods page so they cant enter thats another solution. Is as easy has that. @FavoredSoul Really man calm down you'll have a heart attack. No one is forcing you to keep your stuff online, take it down and leave a couple months people will forget about you and some one will take your place thats how things work. for what i read you take things to much personal, and in a media like internet that is absurd, i suggest you disconnect some time from all of this and take your work with you so people suffer for your absence. Besides you really want to make money from modding try second life people sell stuff there and actually make money last i heard. Really try to calm and learn to not take things personal.
  5. In response to post #24771999. #24772144, #24772774, #24772924, #24773434, #24776364, #24776744, #24777839 are all replies on the same post. Why not use the same concept as youtube ? Ads are paying the youtubber, not the users. Why not doing the same for mods ? Thats a good idea. Still i wonder how many people will be willing to pay for a mod. For a game you already have to pay $60+ and still give 75% of the mod price to the game developer, better they start making free to play games and sell stuff like sword of power $10 for a week of use Is just crazy. and there is the problem with bugs in bethesta games that are left for modders to fix is just not logical. And what guarantee we have such mods are compatible and will be in full working and bug free, even developers release games with lots of bugs and people still buy them, mod makers can just stop developing the mods in any stage with no repercution or responsability. Quality control!!!! Thats another issue, who will watch for the quality of the mods. Compatibility between mods. Thats a big problem, a lot of mods arent compatible with each other, all mods need to be standardized, because if you install any mod you need to do a lot of stuff to keep it compatible with other mods. And finally, maybe a lot of modders think been an user is a priviledge, well im sorry but i think the more important thing than anything else if yuo want to start selling your mods is that you please and respect the customers, because in the end its they who are spending their money in your mod. And rigth now modders can have the liberty to send to hell users who use the mod for free but once you start charging money for them it will only give you bad name. so for paid mods be a reality there is a long path ahead.

The problem is the % betheta wants to get, and for no work at all, mods like the unofficial patches, fixe a lot of things, would you really pay for a bug fix? to play a game you already pay? not mentioning the tools bethesta give are simple not good enough, they need to create something better for all the stuff modders can do a really full SDK for everything. Now i have moddeer have think about the mod reviewers? Are they going to start paying the reviwers to show their mods? For the moment they are doing it for free making money from the youtube subscribers and i bet they will start charging money (and they should) for reviewing paid mods. I hope the moddders are willing to start spending money on advertising. and i bet that 25% wont look that appealing.

" I don't OWE you anything any more than the homeless OWE the people who volunteer to work at a soup kitchen "... Well actually this is true, you really believe any homeless guy give see a voluntier like a hero? for them is a free meal they arent going to say no. Modding is a hobby, to make it to a profesional career you need to be really good, like faalskar or something like.
  9. i dont know why you feel sorry for bethesta, they release a game that need it a lot of bug fixing and the mod community fix a lot of things, we can see the unoffical patches series, many of us have the illusion we would see a lot DLC's and didnt happen. and why people love a lot this franchise is because of the mod community. This game reminds me of NWN (Neverwinter Nights) which have a much more powerfull SDK than anything bethesta release, There were thounsands of servers with entire worlds created with that SDK and even today there are many servers still working. For company releasing a SDK is not about "we are so nice lets give the players a SDK to create stuff" is more a marketing strategy to stay present in peoples mind. Its been 4 years since skyrim was realeased and the game is still alive thanks to the mod community not because bethesta keep developing it. So what they say about mods with more quality and quantity is a complete lie, they want to make money from a game they are no longer developing. We cant be naive, if they really wanted to support the mod community they wouldnt only give 25% to mod creators. Not mentioning the problem with people stealing other mods resources or mods to sell them. didnt chesko have a problem with one of the mods he try to sell because it use the work of other guy? Mod community is power by the work of a lot of people, a lot of mods wont work without SKSE, TES5, FNIS. Are they really going to let other people start makign money with their work? I dont think so. and if they really do well come on thats stupid really. Anyway no idea if anyone will read this but i dont think this will be the end of it. They saw the reaction and back off now i wonder what will they create to get the money they want from mods, they already got some modders i wonder how many more will follow that path.
  10. Selling mods as "DLC's" is the most stupid idea i ever see. 1.- a lot of mods depends on the works of others 2.- valve is trying to tie up all the people who create the tools for modding to be possible and i bet they are offering them a cut of the money from the mods. 3.- No one is going to let other people use their mods to make money is ridiculous, thats why chesko have problems he should have thinkl twice before going oh yeah lets ëxperiment"i bet he did it with all the intention to win some money. 4.- elder scrolls CK is the worst i ever seen it doesnt have enough power, if we compare the tools of neverwinter nigths from bioware vs CK of bethesta well. Well bioware have the best modding tools, you could build entire worlds with that, just one example was turmish lands! the place was huge, with their own magic scripts, player housing, almost an entire continent, full of quests. those servers were running with donations and all. Unless bethesta give players that kind of power (with i really doubt since the CK of oblivion and skyrim aremostly the same and they will not spend in doing anything better). Well even bioware only sold 2 or 3 mods as dlcs and that was it. it didnt stick i dont think this will either because lets face it, soon or later all the people who create the tools to make the mods possible will end up fighting each other because the dish neighbor is fuller than theirs. is just a matter of time. oh and dont forget the resource creators xD how many mods arer based on those.... lets start calling the lawyers! 5.- and final next elder scrolls people will only buy and play the game and thats it, only a fool will waste money on mods really. just like the video d4rkoverlord post, next they start selling bug fixes HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
