FIXED! not quite fixed but now it doesn't interfere. I had a problem that the items weren't displayed, but overall they were in the inventory. when you sit down at the fire you can open the chest and see if you have them at all. they should be displayed there in theory. All you need to do to fix it is go to equipment and place the items you need to use in the quick slots next to the flask, horse, etc.
