On a new playthrough, I experienced whistling that wouldn't go away. By process of elimination, I found it came from a particular setting in the mod "Display Tweaks settings for Frame Generation (CS or ENB)". The problem disappeared when I turned its setting "EnableVSync=false" off. I did this by turning the setting into a comment by typing ";;" before it so it reads ";;EnableVSync=false".

For me, buzzing/whistling was because I had switched the ini files and hadn't cleared the old ones, which persist in the save file. When I cleared them, the buzzing almost completely went away. For me, the game whistled/buzzed from the main screen onward. No mods designed to fix it helped. Finally, I deleted skyrim.ini and got the game to generate a new one by using the base Skyrim launcher. Make sure to restore the original ini in MO2 as well. Or Vortex, I suppose, though I know nothing about Vortex.

Thanks to you both for responding. I was previously using Pandora, and was under the impression there were things it can't handle that I need. However, since then I've read that it can do almost everything FNIS and Nemesis can do. It was because of a stream of unfixable Nemesis errors, which hasn't been updated since December of 2021, that I thought all I could do was fall back on FNIS and Wrye Bash for everything. I'm more hopeful about Pandora now. Also, I expect it will work fine on my GOG version. Thank you again. I appreciate your help.

"I got the warning 'Generator not run from a legal (Steam) Skyrim installation directory.'" Right. I own a GOG version. Specifically, 1.6.1179.08. I suppose FNIS got confused because my Skyrim LE game is a STEAM version. My SE path for FNIS in MO2 is correct. My machine was pointing to a STEAM folder elsewhere, but I corrected the path using regedit. How do I get FNIS to recognize my SE game is a GOG version and quit giving me the warning?
