  1. After you leave the shack, Astrid becomes essential yes, and you can't reset it. If you have some earlyer saves...but i guess you would have tried it. What did you think it would happen when you joined an assassin's guild? Ofcourse they are a$$holes, they're murderers and cutthroats. Try finishing the questline and see if the final stage satysfies you. And save often while you do it. Or see the UESP for spoilers and decide your course.
  2. "Thalmor patrols leading away hapless Skyrim citizens (ostensibly Imperial citizens)" - I saw Stormcloack patrols leading away hapless Skyrim citizens (ostensibly Nord citizens). How about Ulfric's legitimacy? I can understand the Thalmor imprisoning Imperials cause they hate ALL men, but wasn't the Storcloack movement about free Nords?
  3. The only thing I've learned from my 300+ hours of gameplay is that Falmers got unlimited ears. You loot 2 of them ears, yet their dead corpse still has 2 ears attached to the head.

Same as why animals have two layers of fur I guess... ....take the top pelt and there's still another underneath apparently....

Imagine leaving a skinless animal corpse behind.

  4. "(Jarl B is indeed a good man, even though he is bribed by the Imperials with chests of gold)" - I think that shows good skills in economics. Keeping Whiterun on the thin line between the war and making a pile of cash out of it. It is exactly how a competent jarl should act. The Empire is paying him and will defend the city if needed. (so security and money at the same time  ).
  5. It's exactly like stormcloack/empire option. I don't want to be a vampire but i don't want to exterminate all of them. It seems that Bethesda is realy into forcing players into extremyties making you look like an evil shady character or a religious lunatic. Of all the posible DLC they could have made they actualy chose the worst.

Care to explain your reasons in greater length? As they are now, I find them rather poor. The Vampire Lords you're going to be fighting in the DLC aren't a bunch of sparkly Twilight fruitcakes. These are monsters in every sense of the word. They don't just devour your blood, but your very soul. To say "I don't want to exterminate all of them", shows you either give them some unwarranted sympathy or quite frankly you don't understand them.

The Dawn Guard meanwhile are doing what is simply the sensible thing, defending mortal life by ruthlessly fighting the immortal undead that would prey on them given the chance. In good classic vampire stories, there is little to no moral grayness in the conflict. Vampires takes the lives of humans to prolong their own. They're evil.

The Civil War in Skyrim on the other hand is ENTIRELY different. Both sides are guilty of their own crimes, and you can have a sound moral reason for joining either side. Stormcloaks want the freedom to rule themselves and worship Talos. They want to cast out the Thalmor. There's no escaping the fact Ulfric is a racist however, and more importantly he is more or less responsible for the civil war. From Toygg's councilmen it is made clear Torygg admired Ulfric, and would have likely helped him if the ambitious fellow had only asked. Yet Ulfric didn't, instead killing the young High King and sparking a bloody war that might very well have been avoided altogether.

Then we have the Empire. The empire built by Tiber Septim, AKA Talos. Yes they signed the wretched White Gold Concordant, but by doing so they may very well have saved many lives. And unlike the Nords of Ulfric's Stormcloaks the Empire strives to make a society fit for everyone. They've certainly fallen under hard times, but is that reason enough to abandon the Empire? The answer to that isn't easy.

Maybe you should do some reading into the lore surrounding the civil war, to help give you some much needed perspective. The vampire vs dawnguard conflict just isn't comparable to the civil war.

Care to elaborate further without you actually playing it?As for the label "evil" depends what kind of character you are playing. For ex. I have a stage 2 vampire char with which i would love to have the sun blocked forever. And please describe some NPC's from Dawnguard and their moralities, also the other choices you have to make except choosing a side, oh and their consequences also. And you're telling me i have no perspective? You just contradicted me without knowing a thing about Dawnguard except it's about vampires and vampire hunters based on your understanding of vampires. As for the lore, i think UESP provides enough for a simple game conversation.

  6. And I've got an interesting opinion on Dunmer and Morrowind, and their real inspirations.

    1. Dunmer had three gods that once were mortals.

    2. Dunmer had their own religion unlike the one that existed in the Empire.

    3. When Tribunal aghieved godhood, Dunmer were "cursed". And the names of their race and their land changed (Chimer to Dunmer, Resdayn to Morrowind).

    4. Morrowind was a powerful state (even Reman Cyrodiil couldn't conquer it), but it finally surrendered to the Empire.

    5. Later Dunmer began to forget their ways and their gods, adopting Imperial ways and gods. And House Hlaalu was leading that process (House Hlaalu was a house of merchants and... well, you know).

    And so on.

Doesn't it resemble something? Something of XXth century history?

Indians? (The ones fron Asia I mean...) :psyduck:

  7. It's exactly like stormcloack/empire option. I don't want to be a vampire but i don't want to exterminate all of them. 8. PC players Letdown yes.Ilike playing games for the storyline, the chalanges and mostly for the options you could make in character creation and questlining (i'm talking abbout real options like meaningfull classes and real consequences) rather than graphics or popularity. Skyrim lacks in everything i like about a game because it was dumbed down for consoles. Still it is one of the best games that came out after Fallout New Vegas, so it will have to do. Provided that PC usesr have the option of modding makes it worthwile even more. So the modding comunity is making PC Skyrim closer to what it should have been we just have to have a little patience.
  9. It's rather foolish to sit there and act like ESO won't have a profound effect on the next ES game, especially if its successful. Do try to remember that Bethesda answers to Zenimax.

If ESO is even remotely popular and Zenimax wants certain things from it in the next ES game, they'll be there. People flipped their collective **** when Skyrim was announced to be a Steamworks game. Imagine the outcry if the next game has D3-esque DRM or social networking features that have no business being there.

Pointed out perfectly. Bethesda Game Studios was aquired by Zenimax in 1999 so they pretty much own TES series.

Dan3345 - "Sometimes you gotta move on, and let em die slowly. I do think TES online is a step in the wrong direction. Lets all just enjoy skyrim (and hopefully fallout 4) while we have them, they won't be around much longer." -also this. 20 years from now Skyrim will be a classic, if the market then only provides dumbed games or tons of mmo's i will gladly play the classics again.

  10. 4E 22 — The Thalmor seize control of Summerset Isle and rename it Alinor.

4E 29 — The Aldmeri Dominion is recreated after Alinor and Valenwood proclaim a union, and all contact is severed with the Empire.

4E 115 — The Elsweyr Confederacy becomes the two kingdoms of Anequina and Pelletine, which the Aldmeri Dominion accepts as client states.

4E 168 — Emperor Titus Mede II ascends to the throne.

The Empire is now a shadow of its former glory. Valenwood and Elsweyr had been ceded to the Thalmor, Black Marsh had been lost to Imperial rule since the Oblivion Crisis, Morrowind had yet to fully recover from the eruption of Red Mountain, and Hammerfell was plagued by infighting between the Crown and Forebear factions. Only High Rock, Cyrodiil, and Skyrim remained prosperous and peaceful.

After that started the great war in 4E 171 (I think you could say it was 3 on 3)

  11. It certainly seems to me that Ulfric lost honor by using a Shout, whether it tore Torygg apart or just disarmed him.

I don't see it the same way. When you strip Torygg and Ulfric down to their night shirts, Ulfric still has the shout, Just as he still has massive wrists and wide shoulders.

I've been writing philosophical essays and technical manuals, and so forth, for over forty years. Am I dishonourable because I use my "shouts" to disarm people less literate on this forum?

I come back around to the idea of dual standards here. The greybeards are being disingenuous...to make you feel justified.

Because if you want to disallow Ulfric's shout, you have to disallow magic. What if Ulfric had been a mage instead of a warrior?

And you have to disallow the Dragonborn from exercising his Thuum against those not similarly endowed as well. The whole red herring, and self-congratulatory excuse, that it is alright to use shouts on bandits and other folks we don't like is just that--an excuse.

If it's fair for the Dragonborn, it's got to be fair for anyone else who has the dedication, perseverance and strength to master the skill. From where I stand, anything else is hypocritical and self-serving.

If massive wrists and wide shoulders why not a "no shout" match? Ulfric got nothing to worry right?

And you don't disarm nobody less literate because you have only one view of the options above and you stick to it no matter what arguments you are presented with by shear point that you've been writing philosophical essays and tecnical manuals. (before corecting my gramar note that english is not my first language).

  12. To much usless stuff to do. I know what you are talking about because my quest log turned into a mess after visiting 3 cityes. I hope there will be a mod soon that cathegorize the quests. MQ's, Faction quests, misc. quets and radiant quests separatley. Will sort my hoarding logbook. The only option is to stay in one area as much as you can doing quests, going arow into other areas. (that includes not talking to anyone from other areas)
  13. "The Remanada traces the history of the Blades to the original Akaviri Dragonguard of Reman Cyrodiil, who arrived in Tamriel to exterminate the dragons. According to this legendary account, the same immortal Akaviri pledged themselves to Cuhlecain in order to aid General Talos' ascent to the throne."

So they are not that complex. Serve the king, kill the dragons. Since you are not the king (yet) the killing of the dragons remains their only option.

  14. Gothic 4 had absolutley nothing to do wit Gothic series. Not a single character from former Gothic games. And yes Gothic 5 looks good but that will be probably it since it is now own by Nordic Games. (I hope i'm wrong because i realy like Nordic Games and i hope they will keep true to their nature, but again the market decides that)
  15. Here's a scenario. We all know that the RPG comunity is a diyng breed and a great precentage of RPG consumers are below the average playing capabilities, in wich case TES MMO will be a hit and suddenly Zenimax will be a lot bigger and more powerful than ever (muahahahaha). But seriously, at that point they will surley think of buying the franchise for "The Elder Scrolls" thus beeing entiled to produce the next series (it happened before with Fallout and Gothic). Now Fallout was a relatively lucky case because the new owners, beeing Bethesda continued on the path set out by Black Isle Studios while Gothic went realy downhill mainly because CD Projekt wanted it on XBox. I sincerly hope TES will not share the faith of Gothic but sadly they are on the same path, and agreeing for Zenimax to use their franchise name is the first step on a path that can destroy the TES series. (Before replying that Bethesda made tons of money with Skyrim, bare in mind the first rule of marketing : EVERYTHING has a price!).
  16. Like I said before, most of Tamrielic races are too complex to be a version of any single real nation. BTW, Moors mentioned more than once in this topic also were not a single nation. Actually, europeans called almost any type of Mid-Eastern dwellers Moors.

As for the Mer, there's a well designed and described in fiction (including games) term "elves". We should thank Tolkien for this. (Thou he didn't actually "invent" them.) The same is with Orcs. See Warcraft series and lore. Modern Tamriel Orcs bear strong resemblance to modern Warcraft Orcs - a race of warriors, fierce, somewhat simple, generally straightforward.

Agreed. Tamrielic races have some resemblance with real life tribes/civilisations/empires/nations but can't be compared with one. I think every race has at least a few resemblances with a real nation but just as well some with others. (Like Redguards resembling Moors, Turks, an also Arabs)
