  1. I want the boxed version of Skyrim for its awesomeness on my desk, though I get most of my games on Steam anyway. So since they're going to release a disc version, I'm happy.
  2. Assuming it was the actual, full game we would get at retail (of course, this would mean Bethesda is spending the next 3 months on pizza parties rather than the game), I would still pass. I can wait the final stretch and I still want to get into the pre-release hype that's sure to come.
  3. I know this is just personal taste and opinion, but the text font feels like something you might see in Fallout, or in a game set in modern times. The UI is nice and sleek, though for me personally, it feels a bit off with the world. I don't like how large the status bars are either, even if they do hide themselves automatically. I sorta liked how everything in Oblivion was shoved to the bottom and corners. For example, when you discover something, the name shows up in a corner, rather than in your face as shown in the Skyrim commentary. Or how creature names are slapped in the centre of the screen in Skyrim, but was left to another corner in Oblivion. I can see the compass being very annoying as well, if it isn't adjustable. I don't like UI elements taking up the top part of my screen in games like this. I enjoy staring up into the sky and mountains, and the compass would get rather irritating. None of this deters me from getting the game anyway. The UI could change between now and release, or it may be adjustable. Even if none of those occur, someone will definitely make a mod, which changes the UI in some way or form which I'll like better.
  4. Interesting observation. Never noticed it before. If the game was able to do that, then I'd be highly impressed, however, it's possible Skyrim has pseudo-interior environments only. What I mean is, when the video cuts to the Dohvahkin wielding a staff and sword, it's possible he had just came through a door, and that cave area near the exit was part of the exterior of the game world, but the actual interior area of the cave is in a separate cell. Then again, like you mentioned, we never really properly saw the exterior area from the cave.
  5. Wow... those bonuses are pretty pointless. Like others here, I want content, rather than some random, worthless bonuses. At the same time, it's rather galling that we're paying for pre-order bonuses to get these bonus content, while pirates will be getting the same content free anyway; though the people who don't pre-order, but pay money for the game won't get the content. So, in these cases, I'd rather for some physical items, than just in-game content. Like a cloth map, physical art book, a coin re-creation or something. ... though I guess if you get the game on Steam, you aren't exactly able to get those stuff.

    ME2 ending

Same... that was the one moment during the entire ending scene which stuck in my head, and it's the first thing that comes to mind whenever I remember the cinematic. The combination of the music and the Collector's expression as he turns made it really effective... ----- For me, I found it difficult to hate the Collectors even if they were trying to blow my brains out. Like many people have mentioned above, they were altered to serve the Reaper's purposes, which also happened to involve killing Shephard whenever he/she came into sight.
  7. Completely. I disabled all my mods/addons/expansions (essentially, only Oblivion.esm was ticked) and ran the game without OBSE. Also, for further confirmation, see "Vanity View" UESP - Oblivion Controls Relevant quote:
  8. After testing it, I'm 100% sure that clicking and holding the middle-mouse button works fine. It rotates around the character, but keeps it in centre-view.
  9. I'm slightly wary of this as well, though I won't make judgements before I buy the game. I like how Skyrim will be around the same size as Cyrodiil. Just means there will be more content packed into the world, instead of vast areas of empty, generic space (which do appeal to many people). Personally, I'm looking forward to the inclusion of finishing moves. Mostly just because of assassinations. It always bothered me the only thing I was able to do with the Blade of Woe (during A Knife in the Dark) on Rufio was do a pitiful slash. In future play-throughs, I just ended up shooting him with a bow. I hope they keep the slider. I always liked how variable you could set the difficulty at.
  10. They censored Fallout 3's morphine reference (though slavery was left in), and censored L4D 2, but allowed its predecessor. Although Australia censors bits of several games left untouched by other rating systems, its highest rating is still MA15+. Skyrim will probably still be MA15+. but they might at add a new warning like "External Modifications Are Not Rated", similar to how many rating systems approach the multiplayer components in games, where they can't exactly moderate the chat of every player, without making epic limitations to the chat system (i.e. only allowing radio commands, or using pre-written chat phrases).
  11. I'm quite sure you're able to do this in-game without mods. Just click and hold the mouse wheel and it'll detach from the player. You can move it around to see your character. Letting go of the mouse-wheel snaps the camera back to its default status.
  12. That's more than enough to play Oblivion. With a 32-bit system, you can really only use 3.5GB of that RAM though. Although as you lay on the mods, your FPS might suffer then (depending on what mods you install).
  13. Without a doubt, it's Chorrol. Though many others find it too generic, that's what I love about it. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Nothing evil/dark lurking within its depths (unlike somewhere within the Skingrad Castle wine cellar). Leader of the Fighter's Guild is also situated here, along with the Champion. The style of the wooden (interior) homes really appeals to me as well. It's unfortunate Arborwatch's interior is cold and dreary (even with upgrades). I really liked Francois Montierre's home, and took over it once he left. Just had to ignore the type of person who had lived there. Chorrol's also home to my favourite Mages Guild branch. It's really spacious, with a basement, a bustling and busy ground floor, a rather good library, and fairly private quarters with a lot of space between them.
  14. Personally I don't believe it would be censored, as the violence/themes are fairly benign when compared to several other games. If it was (hypothetically), they could still disable gore or lesson the severity of finishing moves.
  15. Although they may force it to be censored like they did in Left For Dead 2. Or Fallout 3. If that happens, I'm guessing NZ also gets the censored version? Although it'll most likely be R16 in NZ. I doubt it'd be as bad as a R18 (there are plenty worse games).
  16. I'm not sure whether they'll be finishing moves, but there they can pull it off in a number of ways. Examples: 1) If you're in close range, and your next fireball is going to kill them, you throw your arm up and blow it up in their face, sending them flying backwards. --> Might be a bit difficult. Or else, it would only work on average-sized humanoids, as it's difficult to define the parameters of "close range" when you using a close-mid range spell. 2) From mid-long range, if your next spell is about to kill: a fireball could explode a bit more spectacularly, and the enemy goes flying. Frost could freeze them a bit, and leave their body in a limp but standing position, and a lightning spell could make them convulse and be thrown with a fair amount of force. --> I can see one or two of the above occurring. Wouldn't really be a finishing move though, as the game wouldn't know if your spell misses, so your casting animation would be the same.
  17. Qarls Texture Pack III Visuals and Graphics Beside "Files" and "Pages", there should be a section called "Organise". Click "Name" and change it to "Downloads", and click "Asc" to "Desc" and press "Go", and the Visuals and Graphics section will be reordered in number of downloads. There aren't really noticeable advantages. It's best to create a custom class anyway, so your skills can suit your needs (of course, you don't want your major skills to all be skills you use, else you'll level too quickly).
  18. Well, personally if you have gameplay changing mods (i.e. Thieves Arsenal etc.), you might want to disable them for your first playthrough. You should endevour to experience vanilla Oblivion as much as you can, before throwing some mods up. However, to answer your question: You can try doing the Thieve's Guild questline. It is definitely my favourite line of quests, and I usually keep it till last because of this, but you might want to try it. After that, the Dark Brotherhood is always good. Oddly enough, there seems to be a lot more sneaking involved than in Thieve's Guild (though only in the earlier quests). The Thieve's Guild really gives you a good feel of the gameplay. After the initial quests, you'll be required to Fence certain amounts of gold. Depending on your morality, you may or not only steal from the rich, but as long as you try stealing in different ways, you'll get experience in breaking in and entering people's homes, or else, sneaking through restricted areas of castles, or when to pickpocket various people.
  19. A good, male Imperial Warrior. Fairly generic, but I don't like playing other classes until I've played through the game with a staple selection and class that I know I won't regret. I fully expect to sink hundreds of hours into this game anyway.
  20. Mountains --> The mountains in Skyrim look like actual mountains, rather than the somewhat tall hills in Oblivion. I can't wait to get to exploring them.Always wanted to explore massive and epic looking mountains. Wouldn't want to do it in real-life of course. Dragons --> The only dragons I've come across in games were scripted fly-by's (like in Fable), or else were limited to being on the ground while in combat (NWM). Really excited to seeing the dragons in Skyrim, especially since their animations won't be pre-rendered.
  21. 1) D I would wait until the thief was injured a bit, before stepping in and killing it (rather than just escaping). Might miss a couple of spells which will conveniently hit the thief. I'd let the thief go after that (if he/she was apologetic), but only after taking back my stuff. 2) B Same as poster above. Finders keepers. 3) B
  22. Even if you don't know how to insert another hard drive into your computer safely, you can still get 1 TB external hard drives for around 100 bucks (depending on your currency). All you need to do is plug it in (power socket, and USB port) and you're sweet. Or you can get full, USB-powered hard drives, which don't have as much space for the same price, but they're smaller, portable, and you only need a USB socket (or two) to use it. Portable hard drives are much cheaper than getting DVDs of the same size, and more convenient for what you're doing.
  23. Whodunit? --> Like many other people, I found this to be the best quest in the Dark Brotherhood questline. Too bad it's a one-of-a-kind. Accidents Happen --> Good Dark Brotherhood quest. Avoiding the manservant was quite fun. The fact you couldn't actually see the execution was a bit different, but welcomed. Bruma Recommendation --> Too bad there weren't a few more sidequests similar to what you had to do in this one. Shallow and easy, but still amusing. Ambush --> My favourite Mages Guild quest. You actually get some support in this quest. Really satisfying when your ambush goes according to plan. Allows for a variety of tactics. High re-playability. I don't like going into the ruins though, so I usually end the quest before the target enters. Tears of the Saviour --> I don't so much like the quest itself, but rather the scene you come upon near the end of it. The Ultimate Heist --> Was mentioned before, but I'll say it again. Really felt like a "final quest" sort of adventure. Where you had to break-in to supposedly high-security areas. Having several elements from previous quests come together into practical usage (like the boots and the arrow) was really awesome. The revelation at the end of the Thieve's Guild was expected, but only because of my liberal pick-pocketing practices...
  24. My favourite was the Thieve's Guild, followed by the Mages Guild. I liked the lighter storyline in comparison to the other guilds. If you didn't fulfil the quests, nothing particularly bad would've happened (assuming Oblivion was real and had consequences). Mages Guild Better quests, with more variety. You actually felt like you had some support, even if you did have to do most of the heavy-lifting. The sacrifice at the end was unexpected, but really made you respect some of the Mages Guild people (intentionally vague to avoid spoilers).
  25. I don't mind the ads too much. Although they do chew through my broadband allowance, once I hit 64k, I'm glad the ads are on timers, rather than the type where you actually have to finish loading and watching the video. If that happened, I wouldn't be able to download any mods at all.
