fallout mod manager wont work for me... everytime i download it it says somthing bad has happened and it has crashed

Im new to PC Gaming and im installing fallout 3 right now. Ive browsed through and found a lot of mods id like to use but I have no clue how. Do i just download them and then I can play it or what? Any help would be appreciated
