  1. Hey man, just want to say that you're doing some fantastic work here! spears and javelins should definately have been added a long time ago especially as Bethesda already did it at that gamecon thing of theirs. Why they didn't release it is beyond my imagination.
  2. ------------------------ DEVELOPMENT ------------------------ ------------- update 7 ------------- I know, I know, I haven't been working on the illithid... I just discovered the game of Neverwinter and have bene playing it with some friends. Plus, I've been asked to help model a head mesh for a golem for a discworld mod for Skyrim. Anyway, I got the mesh working (though somehow it does have a few holes in its face)! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RROv1_UrWmg/U9ppQOTxWEI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/mnOJlYCpOgY/s1600/illiscaaary.png The blue bits are bits where my very simplistic texture doesn't completely overlap with the UV and it shows the background color (which is blue, as black would clip with the lines of the initial UV map and it was far away from green). The scales come from the vanilla argonian normal map and will be removed.

I am home for a day now, and I've begun remaking the head mesh completely using the newfound sculpt tool in blender.   4. The original mod will contain just the race. A companion will probably soon follow. Then I might start on making an illithid hive and quests and such, wich will be difficult to do without making some sort of underdark first. I'll consider this, but it would be foolishness to do such a thing on my own, especially considering I have no experience with scripting and quest-writing. I did start on making an area to a new underground place though, as you can see in update 3. I see. You know, I hadn't even considered to give them a completely new name before xD. It seems there are a lot of tentacle-face creatures out there... Shiliskin, Malgrin, Void walkers from armies of exigo, Davy Jones... while writing this post I searched for 'squid face creatures' in google, and found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_squid-faced_humanoids Ah... so this silver-blades suitcase is some kind of modification of a D&D game? I can't find out a lot really because loading any new page takes minutes. Also, I never played any D&D game (guilty!). I got into forgotten realms through the books. I am inclined to make up a new lore though. The Elder Scrolls universe is a lot different from that of the forgotten realms, with Nirn in the middle and Oblivion and Aetherius layered around it. Though they could have come from beyond there, seeing as their origin is also unknown in the D&D universe.
  5. I've got internet from here, but as I'm not yet home I can't work on anything. well, uhm, it seems illithids, among others, are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast. What this means, is that you cannot use the name 'illithid' or any existing illithid image or anything in your own stuff. As I've made the illithid from scratch, there is no problem with my continuing my work. However, I can't use the name in-game, so it will have to be named otherwise. For example, the creators of the illithid companion mod for Oblivion called it a 'mindslayer'. I have not yet decided on a name and will not until work's been done. I will consider suggestions but if none are forthcoming I'll just make one up. I don't want it to be some cheesy variation on 'illithid' or 'mind flayer'. Maybe give it a deadric-like name... like Hermaeic this or seeker that...
  6. ah, uhm, my lack of progress today can best be explained like this. I'll be in the French wilderness for some time with the summer holidays and all, so no progress will be made or replies read. Be sure to comment and suggest features though! It really helps my motivation!

Things I did: 1) I added eyes to the main mesh bequz adding 'real' eyes wasn't working. You'll have to put up with one color eyes for now, which is fine because according to lore, illi's all have 'milky, pupil-les eyes' and all look alike. 2) I solved the head floating just ever so slighly above the torso 3) I updated the weight painting of the tentacles to be less dependant of the head itself (so if the head turns, the tentacles will stay in place a bit) 4) a better UV map for the textures http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yQl9wlWULA4/U7WAWesIDnI/AAAAAAAAAv4/Tl97C4rEdBQ/s1600/ScreenShot27.jpg The lines are part of the UV map, so I can see where I am texturing (so I can actually discern the forehead from the tentacles and such). removing them is as easy as selecting black and changing it to green, so no worries :wink:
  8. I half solved it... there is just a giant dent in the chest and the sleeves are flying in all directions...

This was exactly why I did't want to remesh the hands: the robes have a grand total of 33 bones atached to the mesh. When looking at this, imagine all this being blank dirt... because it was before. Because it is so dark in vanilla you can't see it, but there are actually a lot of nooks that don't even have rocks in them.
  11. There is already a mod for this- Alternate start: live another life. They did it better than I ever could. Especially the necromancer start is good, for it drops you right inside blackreach. Which makes me think of recreating the illithid community from the Drizzt series, which would be kinda cool to do after the race is done. There are indeed some cool suggestions. I am not a real fan of 'becoming' an illithid though. You either are an illithid or you are not. some kind of questline featuring Mora/seekers would be cool though. It would, in any case, be optional: I don't want to make any DLC required. On racial relationships: It would indeed be kind of weird to just walk into a city being your tentacled self. A greater power makingeverybody like you but attack you without it is possible, but I think it will just be a pain in the ass using it. I'll think about it.
  12. Will be working on making hands. Illithids have four-fingered hands, so one finger will have to go on the vanilla mesh. I will also make some gloves four-fingered in the future, but not now. I just hope that it will work considering all kinds of animations use five fingers (like casting). Also, i might be looking into making the eyes come back (they are currently somewhere withing its head). Other things to mesh: -Naked body -some important robes -new robes (see my profile pic :tongue:) -hoods. Argonian hoodswork fine with minor clipping, but if I set armor race to argonian, the illithid will have scales when wearing non-full armor sets like iron armor. with the exception of the robes they'll all be done after full realease though, I think. Thanks for the support! EDIT when i opened the default malehands in NIFscope, I saw that it had 26 nodes. Ill maybe tinker witht that after release, but not now xD.

I have been working on the illithid, just not spamming every minor update on the forums. I've done some work on the mesh and am trying to work out how to get some real good textures... perhaps I need some specialized software or something, I just hope I can find someone willing to do it for me, to really do the race justice.   14. Hey mister shadowjin, back from liches to illithids? I've never worked with (or looked very closely at) HDT physics. It would be kind of cool, but I want the mesh and textures done first before I look at this stuff. Thanks for the tip though!
