  1. So I checked the .ini folder and the changes had been reverted. Upon changing them again and trying to load the game, I got an error that goes as follows: "The savegame cannot be loaded because it is outdated. Its version is -1 and the current version is 48." I don't know what to make of this. I don't know if this solves the problem and even if it had, I'm not sure how I would know because I didn't even get the problem until about 20 hours into the game. I'm not sure if there's a way to check the graphics card I do have DLCs. They are loaded in the following order: Anchorage.esmThePitt.esmBrokenSteel.esmPointLookout.esmZeta.esm I do believe it's possible Windows has updated. I never manually make a change- usually I'll just get an "update and restart" or "update and shut down" and don't think twice about it. It's very possible that's an issue. I have had problems with FO3 before on my old computer. It wouldn't even run for the longest time. I don't remember what I had to end up doing to get it to work because it was just so long ago, but I do remember that I had some issues with it. Nothing involving freezing or crashing, though. Thank you for your help. My biggest concern with changing folder locations is that I'll have issues with other games or forget that I changed it and end up messing everything up, because that sort of thing is kind of my specialty. To me, that feels like a last resort, mainly because I'm unsure about the kind of havoc it could reign on my gaming life! I hope you understand my apprehension about that.
  2. Okay, thank you for the replies. I didn't mention any change that caused the crashing because there wasn't any. I installed nothing, changed no graphic settings, nothing changed whatsoever. No, I have no mods installed as I previously stated other than the unofficial patch which I installed after the fact in an attempt to stop the crashing- it didn't work. The link also said to just do whatever I could and people would help if I didn't know how. I looked up what a load order is (I was under the impression it had something to do with the computer) and I don't even have any mods, so.
  3. 1.) I've provided the info I thought was needed- no one specifically told me what info I need to provide that I haven't provided. 2.) No one has told me what changes were needed, only some issue about folder destinations that likely has nothing to do with my actual issue considering I've never had this problem before I used this particular computer. I'm not going to change my entire folder layout based on some possibility without any actual reason. Necessary changes are only necessary when they're a tangible solution to a problem. 3.) How am I supposed to find an answer to this issue then? Create a new topic any time the people lose interest? This is supposed to be a help forum, but people aren't really helping. I came here asking for help about my issue, this is not what I expected. I followed the instructions on the "How to ask for help" page to the best of my ability and it said that any extra information needed would be asked for and instructions on how to obtain such information would also be provided. How am I supposed to provide information that isn't specifically asked for? I don't have much experience with computers, I just want my game to stop freezing, and no one seems at all interested.
  4. GPU? I don't know is that the graphics card? I just play games on the computer I don't look at specs or know any of that stuff. Like I said, this isn't even mine. It says on this sticker "Discrete Graphics 4GB vRAM" is that what you're looking for? I'm not interested in messing with the Steam folder location. Fallout 3 worked fine for me before on more than one computer with the Steam folder in its default location. If that's the issue, I'll just have to deal with it or stop playing.

  6. It played fine until yesterday when I started fighting some ghouls. It kept freezing when they reached striking distance. I avoided the issue by just killing them before they could reach me, but since then, my game has frequently been freezing during combat. I find myself racing to kill the enemies before the game freezes, which seems to be inevitable now. It's most common when fighting raiders but also happened when I was fighting radscorpions. I have to force shut down my computer everytime it happens. I looked up the issue and found this solution: Sounds like the Fallout 3 multi core bug, the most common cause of Fallout 3 freezing. Fallout 3 has trouble with multi core computers, mainly with ones that have more than two cores & use hyperthreading. So if your computer is a multi core this is likely your trouble. There is a fix, you need to edit your Fallout 3 .ini file. The one you want to change is: For XP: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\ For Vista & Win7: Documents\My Games\Fallout3 The file you want will be called: FALLOUT.ini Open the .ini with Notepad & change this line: bUseThreadedAI=0 to: bUseThreadedAI=1 & insert this line under it: iNumHWThreads=2 Save & close your ini. Hope this helps! Prensa --- I did that and there's been no change. I also installed the unofficial patch. The problem persists. I have no other mods installed. Edit: I have verified the integrity of the game files as well. Also, it seems to happen the most often when underground and when I use a laser pistol, although it could just be coincidence. The computer I am using is a Dell Inspiron 7000 series. It's not actually mine, since mine is broken. Fallout 3 is one of the few games I own that runs well on this computer so I'm very disappointed that I'm having such a major issue :/ --- Laptop Windows 10 Pro Processor: IntelĀ® Core i5-6300HQ CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (7.88 GB usable) System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
