  1. Thanks! I'm running it on a laptop actually. An Asus G73. Intel i7 quad core @ 2.8GHz, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1GB, and 6GB of DDR3 RAM. It's pictured at the very end of the credits.
  2. Hey all, I just finished several days of downloading mods and trouble shooting them, and I just wanted to do something to show my appreciation for the talented people who made them. I took some footage from me testing the mods and compiled it into a really rather nice little video. Check it out! An extra special thanks to OBGE, All Natural Weather, and the Animated Window Lighting System!
  3. Thanks, some of that stuff was helpful. Upon further investigation, I found another tweak guide with something that really intrigued me. Since Oblivion doesn't seem to make very good use of multi-core processors, my performance suffers. I found the following at TweakGuides.com: "Multithreading Tweaks: bUseThreadedBlood=1 bUseThreadedMorpher=1 bUseThreadedTempEffects=1 bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1 bUseMultiThreadedTrees=1 bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1 iNumHavokThreads=5 iThreads=9 iOpenMPLevel=10 All of the above settings seem to relate to the use of the GameBryo engine's multithreading capability. Multithreading splits tasks into 'threads' where possible, and runs them in parallel across both cores of multi core or HyperThreading (virtual multi core) CPUs to improve performance. Note that raising the values of the iThreads, iNumHavokThreads and iOpenMPLevel settings very high doesn't automatically mean it uses that many threads - it all depends on how many threads are actually possible based on the information being processed. Experiment with these variables but if you experience problems reset them back to their defaults." I like that I can tell Oblivion to try and use more cores, but can somebody tell me what values I should use for my particular processor? ( I have 4 physical cores, each split into 2 virtual cores for a total of 8 virtual cores)
  4. I'd like some help optimizing Oblivion to run at its best on my system without sacrificing much visual quality. When I'm out in the wilderness, throw as much grass and trees at me as you want and my frame rate stays up between 50 and 60, but near NPCs (especially in cities) I get a drastic drop. I am using a bunch of graphics enhancing mods, most of which don't impact FPS at all. However, I just installed Better Cities, and now I'm looking at between 15 and 25 FPS in cities. I was expecting that, I know that is a beefy mod, but I'm hoping there are things I can do to make Oblivion take full advantage of my particular hardware to hopefully get in-city FPS up to between 25 and 35 where it is more playable. Here is my setup: CPU: Intel i7 quad-core @ 2.8 GHz GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1GB RAM: 6 GB DDR3 I'm using Streamline, but I can't say I've noticed it working much (game still stutters, didn't notice increase in FPS). I'm looking for mods or .ini tweaks or other methods of increasing FPS, hopefully without sacrificing much if any visual quality. Got any tips?
  5. Ah. Um... Well, since you say this is your only mod, make double sure that all the files have been extracted where they need to be (most likely Oblivion\Data). You may have to do an Archive Invalidation to make Oblivion look for the new textures instead of the old ones.
  6. COBL did move it, thanks. Other problem still persisting, I'm checking the official thread for All Natural.
  7. Hmm... I'm not familiar with that mod. Can you provide a link?
  8. The best way to activate them is to download the Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM) which can be found here When you start that program up, you will see a list of all the .esp and .esm files in your data directory. Just check the box next to the one you want to activate. And welcome to the world of modding! If you have any further questions, or just want a list of good mods, please PM me here on the forums and I will help. I was a mod noob not too long ago myself so I know it can be intimidating! EDIT: Since I saw your edit. What mod is it?
  9. I am having two, probably unrelated problems. The first, is that the All Natural weather mod is doing some crazy weather changes. For example. I was in Cheydinhal and it was lightly snowing all pleasant-like. Then I opened the door to leave, and when it loaded I was in the midst of a roaring thunderstorm. I certainly hope that isn't normal. The second problem is that my little "key" for OBGE (the one that you use to adjust in-game settings) is going away after I equip it to get the menu. So, if I use the key to turn off SSAO when it's really foggy, then I can't turn it back on when it's sunny because the key has disappeared from my inventory. Any ideas on what might be causing these?
  10. Thanks for the help. I think the problem was actually with COBL, because even after I rebuilt the patch very carefully, it still didn't work. Some of the COBL files got messed up somehow I guess. Anyway, I deleted the ones that were causing problems and rebuilt my patch again. It works just fine now!
  11. Title says it. Let me try to give you as much info as possible so I can hopefully get the help I need quickly. I was using some mods, all of which worked great. Then I decided to try out "All Natural" which requires Wrye Bash (which I am trying to learn, but I'm new at this and it is not a user friendly program). I followed the instructions in All Natural's readme as well as I could, in addition to these instructions for building a bashed patch. All Natural's readme said to "Rebuild your Bashed Patch, selecting “Import Cells” from “All Natural.esp”. Also select “Import Cells” from “All Natural - SI.esp.” & “All Natural - Indoor Weather Filter For Mods.esp” if you are using them." I could not figure out how to do this, so I just stuck with the instructions I linked you to above. I sort of stumbled through as best I could, and I figured worst case scenario was All Natural wouldn't work and I would have to settle for something easier to install. Turns out I was wrong, now Oblivion will not start at all (whether launched through the OBSE loader or the regular Oblivion launcher). I get about a second of black screen when I start it up like it is about to work and then it just disappears and *POOF* I'm back on my desktop. Can I undo the bashed patch and put things back the way they were when they worked? I'll cross the All Natural bridge when I come to it, I just want Oblivion working again with the mods I had. What could have caused this problem? Please help!
  12. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I guess that was in one of the FAQs, but just for the record on my system it is: C:\Users\(account name)\My Documents/Oblivion Thanks again.
  13. I'm in desperate need of help here. I can't get Oblivion to run after reinstalling it. Let me try to give you as much information as possible. I previously had Oblivion installed and could run it beautifully. I was enjoying trying different mods and whatnot, but I soon ran in to annoyances since I had installed Oblivion to Program Files. So I decided to uninstall it and reinstall it to C:\Oblivion to avoid user permission issues. I uninstalled it, and removed all traces of it and any mods from my machine before reinstalling it. I reinstalled it to C:\Oblivion, and it looks fine. But it isn't. I cannot get it to start now. I try the shortcut, I try the Launcher, I try the Auto Run from the disk, but no matter what it gets about half way through showing the "Bethesda" logo and playing the intro music before cutting out and giving me that stupid "Oblivion has stopped working, windows is searching for a solution" message. Now, I have tried reinstalling it off of two separate disks, so I know I have a clean install. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm mad that it was working great right up until I try to reinstall it and then it decides not to work. As far as I can tell, absolutely nothing is different from before, only now it won't work. GRRR! If it makes any difference, here's my system: OS: Windows 7 64-bit CPU: Intel i7 720QM quad-core GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1GB System RAM: 6GB DDR3 Please help!
