  1. Or I could wait until the Skyrim construction set comes out, which will presumably be more native to Windows 7. But I acknowledge your line of reasoning here, having already tried to get Oblivion and CS to run on my own old XP PC- the graphics chip wasn't up to it, of course. But since there are many aspects of modding that I do not yet understand properly anyway, such as scripting and mesh editing, I probably have plenty to keep me occupied until aforementioned Skyrim release . Does Vista have the same bug? - 'cause I have a Vista PC that used to run Oblivion sitting unplugged in the spare room
  2. Looks like I am going to have to ..or abandon modding. Having said all that, a new PC and full Oblivion transfer, saved games, mods and all, only took about 20 minutes last time. So much to do, so little time..... I was just reading this topic to find a fix for my problem related to CTD using the facegen in CS. Guess what!?! This worked! I couldn't believe it. I'm refurbishing a PC that I built for my kid to use in college. There are two sets of audio ports (front and back in my case) but only one of them is actually connected. This sounds silly but check and see if you have two sets of ports. Have you disabled the sound on the motherboard? BTW, I've Windows 7 64-bit with a new install of old Oblivion games. There are no new drivers on the Realtek site. Sigh......well, following one full uninstall and reinstall including patches and the TES CS, into a different directory, and still with a jack plugged into Realtek soundcard red microphone socket, which appears to be the only one and...no difference. 'New Topic' ...'CS has stopped working'

  4. I will try it out, and let you know No dice- tried compatibility with both XP Service pack 2, and pack 3- same crash, at same point. Windows 7 noticed the crashes (what's the betting that 'Windows is checking for possible solutions' brings me back here..? ) but otherwise no improvement
  5. It may not work for you, but it does work for many others. The same problem exists in Fallout 3 GECK. Well, as I have RealTek audio, I tried it; plugged a jack into red Mic socket - and it didn't work - CS still crashed, as exactly same point
  6. Pity no-one seems to have anything useful to offer by way of solution... on either thread. As I have RealTek audio, I tried it; plugged a jack into red Mic socket - and it didn't work - CS still crashed, as exactly same point
  7. I am a complete newbie to modding, so downloaded the TES and have been trying to work my way through the various Wiki tutorials for beginners. Cells and objects have been reasonably straightforward so far, and creating new NPCs, But creating new NPCs has hit a brick wall at a certain point, in that any attempt to create a new topic within Topics, or any kind of new dialogue, immediately causes the programme to freeze and then crash. I have tried various workarounds after browsing this forum for a while, including the 'Edit Greeting bug fix' workaround, and downloading the latest CS patch from this site, but no dice - any attempt to Add Topic to a NPC's dialogue causes a crash. I suspect I am not going to get far in Modding , even taking baby steps, unless I can edit Character dialogue I am in Windows 7, running Oblivion version 1.2.0.416, with Shivering Isles installed. The Bethesda Directory is in Program files (x86) though .... the actual game is fairly stable, except when encountering MOD gameplay bugs, as we all do
