NewVegasNexus.com Problem/
damncrow replied to AWhite's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Neesi no Latvijas gadījumā? Then see this thread and send a polite message to administrator with your IP address. And then wait. Hopefully it will be sorted out and best of luck. If not (and meanwhile) use Tor Browser. If you hit a lucky bunch of nodes, it works much faster than usual SOCKS proxies. -
A polite support request was sent by me using the contact form on the site a loong time ago before this whole kaboodle started. I didn't receive any response. A polite PM was sent by me on July 18th before this whole thread derailed. It was read some hours later and has not received any response. I have been polite. I have been completely ignored. Your arrogance blinds you, Master Yoda. With this, I have received the final indirect confirmation that the insignificant amount of users from Latvia, likely to be non-premium, I might add, are clearly expendable indeed. I truly hope that you will hold onto your word and the other guys will get their respective IPs unbanned sometime in the next decade. For me, I could care less now; I'm signing off for good. I also hope that your arrogance will bite you in the arse. Have a nice day.

Can those clueless people who do not appear to have the administration privileges of Nexus sites just stop their we-know-it-all verbal diarrhea and get the hell out of this topic? I'm just waiting for that name of that bad ISP.
-
Arthmoor, will you please get the hell out of this topic? If you can educate your awfully big mouth about the disadvantages of onion routers and simple proxies then you'll quickly learn how my current ways is far from normal access. And there are more users unaware of... oh, just get the hell out, you don't care, obviously. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for that name of the bad ISP. Meanwhile, I'll have this theory: No single Latvian ISP was contacted in the first place. A country-wide ban has been issued right away. No information has been sent to users involved.
-
Well, nexusmodacc asked politely, Enyap asked politely, NINJ4R4BBID did. I invite someone to stab your whole family in sleep and then expect three polite replies from you. Or do you think it's a kind of my hobby to harrass site admins and other people willing to stop by for the sake of it? I'll admit I'm good at it, though. I'm only repeating, too - we do not know that bad ISP, the whole goddamn country is blocked. There's a whole tree that has been cut and we're just a bunch of leaves. Can I possibly go and ask my ISP (LVDats) to ask their ISP (Baltkom) to see if their ISP (LatNet) has received an abuse notification from Nexus hell knows who, hell knows when and what their response was? If I was asked such a question I think I'm legally allowed to stab the asking person in the eye... P.S. What did just happened to the forums? Before the hidden cynics in some of you begin to assume anything, I assure you crossing my heart, it wasn't us, damn Latvians on a site killing spree again. :ermm:
-
Your cynic in you just adds another insult to injury. Don't bother, the very first reply in this topic already makes the impression that Nexus staff suspects us in trickery and clubbing baby seals at our leisure. So, if you have nothing useful to add, please go away. We don't even know the name of the ISP. Everything else has already been said in my previous tl;dr posts. AFAIK, going to cops is the only legal way to solve a crime and it is still being done extensively in what you call internet-time. Do not be ridiculous. My questions remain.

What exactly is incorrect about stating "actions of one idiot made whole country lose access to a certain site"? More like you do not want to argue as the single argument I've ever seen is "the only option we had". Isn't that the dealing in absolutes? - Nexus loses a couple of users (not a big deal, users are expendable) - Nexus has to deal with these users anyway (IP blocks are just an inconvenience) - The suspect is still walking free, having his desire for a revenge completed Please present your counter-arguments to these statements at your earliest convenience if you can. Or shall I say - your arrogance blinds you, Master Yoda? Now - what problem do WE (blocked users) have? Do we need to move abroad? Because we do not have a clout with our direct ISP either. The incompetence of the abuse department of the ISP Nexus has contacted is troubling but cannot be solved by US, whatsoever. As I've stated above, at least two independent major ISPs are involved or the block is simply country-wide to begin with. Nexus best interests currently concern me just as much as my best interests seem to concern Nexus staff. - we get zero information from Nexus about the block being issued in the first place - we get zero information about proceedings of the matter - we get zero information now about ISP in question I might add once again, that there's more than one ISP involved. I've also asked politely in a PM if block could be lifted for my IP exclusively. It has been read. It has not been answered. The block persists. I conclude that the answer is NO in a form of a middle finger up. By constantly telling us about Nexus interests you are basically telling us to fook off already. It's a patently obvious dishonor against users. Nexus took the easy way out. It didn't inform authorities that actually can legally do something. Maybe in your country ISPs do criminal investigations at their leisure, we don't. So a couple of questions I'd still prefer to be answered: (these are not demands, mind you, I fear that I might be labeled a terrorist soon myself) - Can there be made an exception to the block for my IP (mentioned in the PM), pretty please? If Yes: - Can there be made an exception for all other registered Latvian users that have a clear account history? - Can all other registered Latvian users be informed about the block (and the exception, if applicable) to their respective emails? - Was my IP (mentioned in the PM) involved in the attack even indirectly (so I can see if I may have had an unsecured machine)? - What is the ISP WE (blocked users) seem to have the problem with? If at least three of these are answered adequately, a sincere thank you follows. That is how I imagine this would need to be solved instead of simple verbal diarrhea to and forth. By all means, being site admins and owners you all can do whatever you please.

We have three major ISPs: LATNET (blocked, including LMT-3G range, Baltcom rides on LATNET) Lattelecom (blocked, just checked with a friend) Telia Then there's a hundred of smaller ISPs that all buy traffic from these three. That means more than one ISP is involved because the block has been issued to at least two of the major ISPs, having nothing in common whatsoever. Thus, I second the request of the incompetent ISP. Regarding the laws not existing - clearly a load of horses***. Which underscores the incompetence of the ISP contacted. Criminal Law, Chapter XX, Section 243, clauses 2 & 3 Krimināllikums, XX nodaļa, 243. pants, punkti 2 un 3 This whole thing is being acted on in a very devil-may-care fashion. We can still freely access other Nexus sites, so the point of the block is very moot. Oh wait, I probably shouldn't have told it.
-
So the reply from this ISP is an example of incompetence. Purely bureaucratic reason. There are necessary laws and there is police and a cybercrime division that handles it, the latter didn't appear right out of ground either, has been for years. Again - thank you for banning us. Terrorists win.

So, if I may ask so, what is the action that more cooperative ISPs actually do take? Or they just tell - "oh gee sure mister, u can tlly count on us lol"? To my knowledge there is no effective way to combat DDoS, at all. Except filtering all traffic. I might add then - we actually enjoy the freedom of not having any filtering, not having bandwidth caps, port blocking or throttling; you tell us about your freedom now. Because DDoS-ing happens nevertheless, only loyal customers/users are getting screwed. Nor should an ISP take a word on it and snub a customer given an IP by some site's admin, no one is guilty unless proven otherwise, after all. Never mind that IP does not point to a person, it points to a customer. That's the job of the police to investigate and act accordingly, ISP is not a law enforcement institution. Contrary to aforementioned, there are laws about harmful interfering with operation of information systems over here. If ISP is not proving to be cooperative, simply contact police. Well, it's easier to ban some neanderthal country right away, though. But that's not even the point. The guy who was at the head of the attack has actually achieved his real goal - to cripple site's functionality for a whole country. DDoS is a kamikaze-like terrorism, it's not about whether he could get his personal matters (warnings/disables/bans) settled with this site's staff, he wanted to do collateral damage. And he has by far succeeded in doing so. No one wins, everybody loses. Never mind that I'm simply butthurt to find about this whole thing months after the block has been issued. There could've been an e-mail to members or something, so we're not left clueless. I've asked admin if it was possible to lift the ban on my IP, with no result. Ok, he's probably a very busy guy, I can wait, it's not like I'm totally blocked, I'm writing here after all. Those who want it, will find ways around blocks anyway. Maybe that includes your bad guy which is now awfully happy about what he's done and how a bunch of tards are now arguing about it.

I do. Though now I fumble with mods and stuff, it has been a while since the last full playthrough (the only one, too, completely vanilla), so I might start again, now with all the mods I have installed. I haven't actually touched FNV apart from modding visuals of it and I won't until Lonesome Road comes out so I get the complete package (for FO3 I started with GOTY, so it wasn't a problem)

Hello there, How can I detect if player is in water, including (or specifically) in placeable water? The question is intended to fix this mod: http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13770 Head bobbing (that works by adding silent invisible explosions) that are still shown and heard when in water. So I'd like to disable it when player is in water. I've already added a check so that it only works when player is above water level (Player.GetPos Z > 10500). I can't figure out how to do the same for placeable water (like Megaton bomb puddle). Thx.

This is a seriously disturbing attitude. Generalizing much. Why "your"? What "friends"? Contrary to previously stated by admin, there are laws against harmful interfering with information systems over here. Even with all the laws barely any recent DDoS or hack attack has ever seen legal action worldwide, anyway, so it's not even an argument. But I suppose it's not important. "These are just a bunch of drinking USSR cavemen, they don't even have proper internets there, BLOCK THEM!". So it seems I'll continue using Tor to wander around here. Thank you. We did not deserve this.

So this has been the trouble. I read about the unfortunate DDoS incident in the news section but I was completely unaware of whole Latvian IP ranges being blocked.
