Dawnguard caused massive file bloating on one of my saves. Got so big the frame rate went down to near stopmotion animation.

a lot of the problems arise simply because the resources are being overridden by custom content from mods. If you restore all folder to a near to the state of an original install (meaning all resource folders and setting are default ) all errors will dissapear. Obviously it may not be convenient to do this. The trick after that is turning all your mods back on in the correct order as to not break the game or cause errors. I was able to get all the mods I was using prior to dawnguard excluding Tytanus (it is simply to big to be adjusted atm it may work for some things but that mod changes so much you really dont even know what it does completely ) SO to revise what I said originally you may not need to completely reinstall. just set things back to default then turn your mods back on. To do this simplar to what you said, you need to rename or move all the resource folders in skyrim/ and data/ then run check game cache (after copying main bsa files to save time). this restores the a pseudo clean intall state and allows you to reactivate your mods. NOTE: If you are able to create a fresh install on different computer you can simply copy the files from that directory into your old one with all the mods on and it should work. (provided you fix needed resources for mods) Hope you get things working! good luck. Message me if you have specific questions.

Do you have any mods installed? Here is a list of know working mods. Feel free to add to it. -Deadly Dragons -Dragons Diversified -Enhanced blood textures -Armored Horses -Improved Arch mages robes -Lanterns of Skyrim -Midas Skyrim (NOT tytanis mod version, that f*#@s up the game. ) -Cartographers map markers -The dance of death -UFO -Ulitmate Follower Overhaul -BDO Theses are the only mods I am using currently I beat dawn-guard with them on with no errors. ***Done on the vampire side.

What do you mean in step 2? Open steam and go to the Games library. Right click on skyrim and select "delete local content" For step two you are completely removing any trace of the original skyrim install you had. (after backing up all the files you want to too keep) The best way to do this is to delete the skyrim folder itself C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim At this point it should no longer exist and you can re download it. I have a list of mods that will still work for it, however this list is incomplete im sure of that.

It's more specifically mods that modify the base scripts. If the meshes are stand alone and don't interfere with what bethesda decided to change in dawnguard. Follower mods will need to be patched because there is a lot of new companion content that is part of the main quest. If you follow the instructions and do a wipe of the game. And use as many of the original scripts as you can mod wise you should be able to use most of your mods. The visual enhancement mods should work. But Big mods like Tytanis, Midas Magic, big overhual mods should probably be patched. if all else fails return to stock. beat the main quests. turn all your mods back on. The load order plays a big role on the certain mods working together. Just turn on your mods one by one and figure out which ones break it then either change the order or remove them until they are updated. Or skip dawnguard for a long time.

Alright so here are a list of what I and many others have experienced. ERRORS LIST: -First off the crossbow is not a sword and should behave as such. -Lighting breakdown when entering dawnguard area -Quest objectives being ignored and vital characters appearing out of place. -Unanimated Gargolyes -Neverending vampire tutorial -Dawnguard quest Unstartable. -Animations fail to play -Player Controls malfunction I'm sure there are more but you get the idea. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE DELETING FILES. Feel free to ask questions if you need help. To fix this: Step 1: Back up your entire skyrim folder (Data Folder, settings and all) in a safe place. You may want to back up save files as well and delete the old ones C:\Users\YOUUSERNAME\Documents\my games\Skyrim\Saves Step 2: Clear you skyrim cache (uninstall with steam open Steam skyrim>Properties>Local Files> Delete Local Game Content) After that delete all the remaining files in the original skyrim directory. Step 3: Start the download of the fresh Skyrim files, then pause it and copy all the main esm and bsa files from the backup (Not including the mods ) into the new directory for skyrim. (Danwguard.bsa, Update.bsa, Skyrim.bsa and the esm files) Step 4 : Once you have copied the files into the new skyrim directory you essentially don't have to redownload anything. Just click properties on Skyrim from steam as in step 2. open steam skyrim>properties>Local Files>Verify Integrity of game cache. Steam will now "download" in a matter of seconds. Step 5: All clean! copy your prefered save file from C:\Users\YOUUSERNAME\Documents\my games\Skyrim\Saves (Note: if your save file is completely dependent on certain mods this may crash the game. One way to fix this is trial and error with load order. A better way is to cut you loses and load an earlier save if possible that is not dependent ) Troubleshooting: If you are recieving a fatal error that has something to do with "Error: OnInIt() String cannot be validated" or something like that. This can mean that the load order needs to be adjusted. Dawnguard needs to be first. DO NOT ENABLE ALL MODS RIGHT AWAY. This will serve only o put you back to a broken version of dawnguard. Play the game for awhile, make sure the game is stable before adding new mods. I suggest enabling mods no more than 3 at a time so you can figure out which ones are causing the mods problems and then report it to the author. If the mod changes any meshes in the game it will more than likely cause some sort of problem with dawnguard until the authors have a chance to patch them. Only enable mods that change meshes, textures or scripts one at a time. Good Luck and I hope this helps, I know this pissed me off.

UPDATE: Fixed it. I did a clean install of skyrim without any mods (Just saved the main files so I didn't have to download them again). Even though the mods were unistalled on the previous version they had left trace errors from scripts and modifications to main meshes for different actors. I started having problems with skyrim since 1.7 event before I installed dawngaurd. 1.7 caused some dialogue in the game to disappear unless I saved and reloaded and my companions wont leave my service when i tell them to piss off. Needless to say i was excited for dawngaurd, but it seems like we got the short end of the stick over the console. They spent so much time fine tuning it for the xbox that the PC is choking. Oh well, hopefully they patch it. Im sure a lot of people are having this problem

This is caused by the patch. On solution I found was saving and reloading once the game has been started.

So I downloaded dawngaurd and I can't even get past the first few quests because of the bugs. I have tried disabling all mods and add ons. Absolutely no change. Three main errors: 1- The crossbow is broken and looks like a sword in your hand 2- Some of the enemies namely the gargoyles do not animate properly and remain standing when dead. I was ready to ignore all theses errors before I hit one I couldn't. 3- When you are told to "Press ctrl" to toggle between flight and ground in the vampire tutorial nothing happens when you press control. you just keep floating and he just keeps saying "Land and we can continue" Has anyone else experienced these problems or found a solution? I have disabled all my mods and they are not causing it.

I have voice actors for all the current roles except the one of the main characters in the quests/mod. It is just a few lines but the mod cannot be truly finished without them. If you are interested please contact me @ [email protected] Voice actors will be credited in the mod and will be able to test the mod first before it's release.

I came back to my computer today and found that the dialogue on one of my mods no longer works, one that I made myself and I know works. It worked 3 days ago lol. Has anyone else been having similar problems with the update?

I am working on a medium sized mod that adds a few quests to the game as well as some unique dragon combat. Things I need: -Girl Voice actress for one or two roles. -Male Voice actor for one or two roles. -Someone that is willing to add some decorative style besides my own to the interior and exterior cells -In the future if I have time before next semester I will be adding additional content. In which case I would need someone who could contribute content to the mod they thought would improve it. Voice actors don't need to have any modding experience, just record sound files and get your names in the credits :P Plus Maybe we will end Up friends. Others need to be able to use the creation kit with at least basic understanding. My Background: I have been modding games since I was in middle school. From Morrowind to Skyrim. I am a little rusty with Bethesda work but I have picked up most of the new features since the start of this mod. Time Limit: there is no time limit, but once the semester starts at the end of august work will be slowed to a craw. Other Requirements: Age: at least 16, preferably above 18 Note: Unfortunately I cannot pay for any services or modders. However anyone who helps reserves the right to call in favors in the form of help on future mods. Dropbox will be used to transfer specific files unless otherwise specified. Thanks! Send me a message or email me @ [email protected]
