  1. I'll need to get a working DVD drive into my machine until I can install the retail release. Not sure if I still have the CD with me since I moved out of my parents place otherwise I'll have to install it remotely on one of my old machines then transfer that over to the machine I'm using right now.

I actually don't load the steam friends overlay as it causes really odd problems like the mouse not being captured properly and the overlay itself being "textureless" in certain situations. I always play in a window so there's really no point to using the overlay when I can just alt+tab or hit the windows key to multitask to the steam community windows.

EDIT: I actually don't have my CD on me so I'm going to get it back in the mail in a week or so from now depending on when my Father will actually remember to mail it along with several other things I've been asking him to send me already.

Also I've been toying around in other games including Oblivion, and any other game using Shader Model 2.0 and I don't notice anything bad happening in any... so I'm still greatly confused why even when using the Steam version of the game the water is bugging horribly now.

Actually reinstalling the DirectX redistributables rather than using the web updater didn't make much of a change either. (going off of the one supplied with the installscript.VDF in the Steam copy)

In addition I still have a COMPLETELY UNTOUCHED install sitting on my old computer I would hope, and it should have the latest patch Bethesda released shortly before Mothership Zeta became the last DLC to be produced for FO3. But I get this sinking feeling if I compare SHA-1's between what I have now and that install it's going to turn up green anyways.

  2. When I try out the EXE the game performs even more fast than usual but when I go to load my save game it warned me that content is missing, however it does not appear I've lost really... anything at all. The reflection bug still persists in this executable but the framerate is DRAMATICALLY better.

I don't have GECK installed but I'll get on that shortly. What exactly was different in this exe than the one that I had in the retail? It seriously runs alot faster and that kinda surprised me. I notice it's filesize is alot smaller than the one I have, and when I throw in FOSE it loads fose_1_0.dll rather than fose_1_7.dll. Was that EXE version 1.0 of Fallout 3?

  3. I also should of mentioned, I did a SHA-1 hash comparison between my standard Fallout 3 files from the latest patch retail copy against the copy I got off of Steam. The BSA's and ESM match perfectly so there's no way I somehow messed up my original files.

Sorry I just got up not more than a hour ago and I'm pretty out of it...

  4. That's what I've tried. Another member of the forum suggested I reinstall the game but I'm not sure if I should just copy over the BSA's from the Steam version as I have the original GFWL Retail release in DVD form.

The only sub folders in my Data folder are: Shaders, Video, and Music. There are no third party ESP's or ESM's, just nothing but the official DLC.

Turning off reflections makes the water totally occlude the parts that would otherwise show up like a "void", but turning off reflections makes it impossible to see into the water as a result... Turning off refractions makes this odd bumpmap texture appear where I would otherwise should beable to see out of the water.

Is there a way I can just make the water simple translucent in and out? If I can't have nice reflections atleast I would like to make the water functional like in any standard game from the 90's

LAST SECOND EDIT: I also tried different versions of Catalyst, even the one that originally shipped with the card on CD and it does not appear to make any difference other than framerate drops\rises.

  5. With or without mods, I can't get the water to show up properly at all in FO3.

Allow30Shader is set to 0 and shaderpackage17 was not replaced. It used to work fine but now the reflection either never shows up, or shows up in a totally wrong location causing this to happen:

    http://www.udhq.org/dl/ScreenShot1.jpg

Note the odd "void" like clippings of the water and how the reflection isn't even showing up at all.

I'm using the DLC provided by the steam version of FO 3 GOTY but I am using a CD copy of the game... I don't know if this is the problem because even not loading the DLC the problem persists.

I have no access to a working DVD drive so I can't reinstall off my original CD copy.

There are no files modifying textures or meshes in my Data folder, it's all stock content except for DarnUI.

If I absolutely require a reinstall then I'm at a loss since there is absolutely no reason for this to be happening otherwise. I have all the original unmodified files as part of the steam release of FO3 GOTY but is there anything I should be aware of with steam's release as opposed to a disc copy?

It could be I'm loosing my mind and this is typical Fallout 3 stock buggery but either way I swear the water reflection shader used to work perfectly until now...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  6. 3rd party themes are better :D and thats a lot of apps.. i keep my desk clean.

I had a desktop a long time ago that consisted of a full screen worth of icons for almost every little thing I had, the start menu was so large it barely fit the screen too.

I forgot the post the build of my computer so I might as well

    Gateway DX4300

AMD Phenom II X4 810 Processor 2.59 GHz

    8.00 GB DD2 RAM

    Windoze 7 Home Premium

    ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated

Realtek HD Audio (24-bit 192000 Hz)

  7. When I was still in kindergarten, I played Wolfenstein 3-D and DOOM.

Was I scared by any of the visuals? No. The only thing that got to me in both games is how the developers seemed to LOVE to make you get lost, and how well hidden everything has to be, from secrets to items that should be plainly obvious. But hey I was young, I didn't have a big mental capacity that I think I have today.

Honestly I only had acted violent as a child because of being taunted and pushed around by other people thinking they're "better" than me, and I didn't have much restraint then because the stress was too much for me to contain. I've since then learned to ignore whatever insults are thrown at me, and only get violent when the other person actually makes a move.

Video games did one amazing thing for me, they made me creative, and willing to care enough about fictional stories to actually read them, fan fiction or not, even make them up myself.

My mother used to scream at me when I was young and I was playing games like Heretic, and so forth, all because of the bloody violence. My father was the one who got me all these games (some of the most rare by today's standards, since I was born in '92) and he was fine with me playing them, they're games after all. I never degenerated or anything to that degree as a result of playing these games, bloody violent or not.

My mother just believes everything said on TV that violent video games will train children to become ravenous murderers (yes, Jack Thompson, Faux Newz, etc)... If that were true I would have killed more than thousands of real innocent people, have I now? No, and never will... Hell I never ever physically hurt anyone in my life, short of shoving them away.

Video games are fiction, not real life, if you're about as deranged to think they're real life, then is that REALLY the fault of the developers? No it's not. It means you need professional help, not sue everyone.

I'm not sure what to place my vote on, I'd say "Depends on the child" but then it also depends on the parent as well, in my opinion.

  8. Reason to not like MMO's, video game addiction.. And also everyone whoring (excuse the language) out for "special rare items", bragging about being better than you, having the best gear, etc.

I've had bad playing experiences with MMO's... It's just too time consuming more than a traditional CRPG is. And then there's PvP... and if everyone's going to be as much of an arse in PvP I might as well play a traditional free-for-all FPS game.

Infact, I've had times where, someone plays out to be generous to me, giving me a few items to start out with, then I get killed and looted, respawning with nothing, and my character stunted depending on what game I'm playing (usually loss of EXP or other stats), when questioned, they laugh at my face and kill me again. I try to report the issue, nobody listens.. so to hell with it.. Stopped playing and went back to single player games or online FPS's that AREN'T MMO..

Don't get me wrong though, I wouldn't mind playing a MMO but it has to be *VERY* specific to my tastes, and have a userbase that doesn't consist of 12-year old mentality nerd arses.

  9. "The Conent Project" has a few actual recordings of various Numbers Stations, UVB-76 is included, though anyone with a shortwave radio can pick this up if they have the proper equipment and knowledge.

There's another Russian radio transmitter that had a jamming effect on a lot of signals, it was known as the "Russian Woodpecker", and it's also said that UVB-76 did blipping sounds rather than that loud, phone vibration buzz we all hear today.

Quite a lot of videos about things like this on YouTube, it's rather interesting too.

  10. Yes you're correct that IS my system... Speaking of Dell my father now uses my very old Dell as his main PC ever since his own went out on him. (Harddrive crash or something... maybe motherboard died forgot really..) And I DO know how proprietary Dell likes to be with ANYTHING in their PC's... so I'm kinda scared of Gateway is the same way. (Seriously why did Dell think it was smart to make PROPRIETARY power supply units..?)

Either way I still have the driver software downloaded and ready to install, when I'm 100% sure it'll work, so I'll be double checking everything possible.

  11. When I mean mis-align it's like.. the very moment it changes to a non-native resolution, the image is skewed off the actual monitors boundaries, which effectively makes the picture unreadable, since half of the screen is black and what's left is scrunched up in the corner.. When returning back to 1024x768 the screen is still mis-aligned so I have to hit "AUTO" to correct it, very annoying.

It's the very reason I hate using this old monitor, and wish my LG one never died on me.

Also that's the very same executable I downloaded, checked the PDF with the release notes and did not see my specific chipset listed in there. (Am I just being paranoid..? Sorry if I am..)

ATI Radeon 3200 is listed but missing the "HD" part unless it's a mistake in the manual or what's on my PC..

  12. Yeah I should update the drivers but I'm confused on their site which driver update will work with my "ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics" card, which is integrated into this Gateway DX4300-19 I'm using.

Not sure if it's really "integrated" or it's just pre-installed PCIe card.

EDIT: REALLY confused when I check their driver software release notes, and notice that "ATI Radeon HD 3200" isn't listed ANYWHERE, but "ATI Radeon HD 3300" is... So I'm not sure if I should just scrap this stupid card and buy a new card further up the line or press my luck and just go ahead and do the install procedure..

  13. First off, I wish my widescreen one didn't go out on me... (Only displays a pure white background, but would go back to normal when power cycling it for awhile as it warmed up, but now it's stuck as a white screen forever... I think it's dead.)

This one I'm now using is small, 1024x768 is the native resolution and the highest possible, but anytime there's EVER... a resolution change for whatever reason it keeps misaligning the picture worse and worse and the "AUTO" button on the monitor itself only is a oneshot "cure" that doesn't really solve the problem permanently..

My current monitor is a Philips 150B, according to what my PC is reporting it as. I forgot what my widescreen one was but it's a LG, ironically my father purchased the LG widescreen monitor from Best Buy, the warranty on that has expired and the monitor died out at about that time too... so we can't really do much for that right now.

Also my graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 3200, but Catalyst control center tells me NOTHING on how to make it so resolution changes do NOT scale, if that were possible on these cards it'd be of great help to me because I don't care about scaling and half the time, whenever a program uses a low resolution it's usually DosBOX in fullscreen and that will scale it's own image by itself using it's own scaling system. (Which does not screw up like I mentioned due to DosBOX IS always running it's resolution at my native resolution and just applying post processing scaling during rendering of the scene by itself, NOT my monitor... Therefore it completely avoids this problem.)

Here's the system info that Catalyst provides, and I'm kinda confused on how to update my drivers AND this too.. (Don't want to make the mistake of getting the wrong drivers installed..)

    Driver Packaging Version 8.632-090702a-084305C-Acer
    Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
    2D Driver Version 8.01.01.921
    2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0001
    Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0678
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.8787
    Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2009.0702.1239.20840

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

  14. I'd love to see what's next in store for Malkavian mod... The bartender and the talking spider bot was pretty funny, but I'd love to see Malkavian mod spread BEYOND, UNATCO HQ... Imagine the possibilities if this took place in Hell's Kitchen NYC? Or the Underworld Bar?
  15. I have this game, beaten it three different ways and playstyles on "Realistic", and also tried some of the local mods, and made one of my own. It's a really great game, and it's better than it's poorly made sequel Invisible War. I can only hope the 3rd one, "Human revolution" will not be as bad as Invisible War was... It was really disappointing how bad that game was..

I have a video of what I find the FUNNIEST mod ever made for Deus Ex.

sueD xE: Malkavian Mod - Playthough (Part 1)

It's pretty funny, don't know if it's still being developed though.

My mod is basically this modified JCDenton I named "Special Agent Krauze", who has a golden lockpick that can pick any lock and has unlimited use, and a red multitool that can hack any object and has unlimited use as well. The mod was supposed to be a EuroCorp Syndicate Agent, but I never got around to finishing it.

  16. Myself. (I'm my own game character... honest, atleast in the mods I make for the various games I play)

But in all seriousness, my favorite character(s) could be Caleb from Blood, the unnamed solider from Future Shock (what drugs is this guy on anyways? He just won't go down no matter what the machines throw at him..) and Garret from the Thief series.

  17. Anyone got copies of these? They're pretty good.

Future Shock made good use of the XnGine engine, and I certainly like the gameplay especially the vehicle missions.. Flying around in a H\K Fighter destroying all the machines and turrets as well as buildings and debris is just really fun in that game.

I don't have Rampage or the old CGA "Terminator" that's based on the movie, but what about everyone else around here? Played any of them? I can defiantly recommend Future Shock, it's really well made for its time.

  18. 18, I turn 19 on April 4th.

Despite my age I take a lot of time to divulge myself in old technology and gaming, as well as old methods of sound production. (FM Synthesis being my particular favorite)
