  1. Played through this mod and it wasn't anything particularly noteworthy. Light shafts, light shafts everywhere. Very dark, typical Ghoul maze. Pretty much requires a light in order to even see anything. There is a game breaking bug with it though. I don't know how widespread it is, but VATS can get disabled by attempting to activate the Vault door. I believe it's because the mod uses Vault 114 assets and I saw an old video where someone described VATS breaking with Vault 114's door. So, to stay on the safe side, you might now want to touch the vault door controls.
  2. So here's a few ideas for mods that I've come up with as I near the end of my first playthrough. Let me know what you think. - Weightless Weapon Mods : Sure you could dump them somewhere but you gain new ones every time you mod a weapon(or de-mod it) and they do have weight value. I got quite a ways into the game before I even realized I carrying around over 50 lbs of weapons mods and wondering why I was so heavy all the time. - Changing Nick's attire: Yes, he looks fine and all with his default look, but wouldn't he look so much cooler if he could equip the Silver Shroud suit for instance? - Trigger the Mysterious Stranger Mod : I would say use the crit hit in VATS to instantly trigger the Stranger to attack. May not be practical or balanced but it would be fun. ;) - Underwater mobility mod for Power Armor: Power Armor stinks underwater. Perhaps some ingenious modder can devise a way for Power Armor to function underwater better? Maybe a turbine pack add-on to allow the armor to swim(Could just use a jet-pack that works underwater)? Sealed suit with oxygen breather to breath underwater? Not that there's much to do underwater yet but this idea does strike me as something that should exist.
  3. If your commentary/roleplay skills are good, I'd say a try a bit of both. I don't think you'd necessary have to read everything, but you could just summarize/react to dialogue the way you'd intend with roleplay. With vanilla the story, role play is kind of limited to whatever role the lone wanderer is. You're stuck with with his/her backstory of vault 101/James as dad/Project Purity etc. and feel compelled to play the good guy(If you intend to stick to the story). I prefer to use the FWE mod now with it's alternate starting scenarios and create my own backstory. It gives me more freedom to just have my characters just be whatever I want them to be. I did a small series of Fallout 3 videos a few years back and took a more experimental approach to let's play by crafting a unique storyline and using machinima techniques to create a more story-driven playthrough. Sadly it never got much attention yet I'm thinking about re-booting it into a more traditional LP. Have fun with it. :)
  4. Why would you record FRAPs with 120 fps avi files? You can't realistically use that in post-editing and it would be understandable that might lag out a video editor if your machine can't handle it. I think that was the performance problem right there. I'd try them both again, with more reasonable settings, 720p, set the same recording framerates and then see how they both act in video editing.
  5. I figured out the game companion. Fallout 3 has to start before you start game companion. The little I read on it told me opposite so that's where I got confused. But anyway, in regards to gamma control it does much the same thing as gamma panel. It justs uses pre-defined pre-sets instead of fine adjustments like gamma panel. It'll make the game a bit more bearable visually if I'm just playing, but it's a still an issue if i decide to record or do photos. I'm thinking I may just have to get creative in a doing a work around for that. Thanks for the help again.
  6. Servers have shifted around recently. Try clearing your browser cache and trying again. I was able to download a few files just a bit ago
  7. Thanks for the suggestions Prensa. I tried out the gamma panel and that might definitely help. I'm also using Xepha's dynamic weather mod which seems to be a better balance between fellout and Project reality. Update: After some further testing, it appears that gamma panel doesn't actually restore brightness control to the game, but overrides windows/monitor settings to brighten/darken things. Unfortunately this means screenshots and recorded video will still be too dark or bright after I return things to normal and require post-processing adjustment. I tried game companion out, but can't get it to work. Supposedly all I have to do is add fose_loader.exe to it's list of programs to work with and I did so, but it still does nothing for fallout 3.
  8. Okay, so it appears I've run afoul of some odd bug with regards to losing control of the game's brightness settings. I usually play in windowed mode, 720p, however for some reason in that mode I cannot control the in-game brightness. The brightness slider does nothing in the game settings. I checked it in fullscreen and the slider works, however I don't want to play it in fullscreen as I use windowed 720p for recording and to monitor audacity while I play. I'm currently using fellout and this is currently how things look: http://s10.photobucket.com/user/acsproject/media/Fellout01.png.html I don't think it's supposed to look THAT dark near the middle of the day. I've tried my game out with Project Reality instead and this is how the same scene looks: http://s10.photobucket.com/user/acsproject/media/PRShot.png.html A little better, but not by much. I'd rather not use PR due to blown lighting issues such as this: http://s10.photobucket.com/user/acsproject/media/PRblownlighting01.png.html For comparision, this is how the game looks with neither fellout nor PR: http://s10.photobucket.com/user/acsproject/media/Vanilla01.png.html Even in vanilla, I still have no control over the brightness so I'm rather certain the issue isn't related to Fellout or PR. I've tried adjusting it in fullscreen and going back to windowed, but that doesn't work. I tried tweaking gamma setting in the ini file as well that did naught. Something about windowed mode is forcing the game to a certain gamma setting. My gpu is a MSI Twin Frozer II HD6870 is that helps. I've tried using the ATI control center for the graphics card, but it has no settings to control or override gamma/brightness for games that I can find. Does anyone have any ideas how to correct this issue?
  9. If you're new to the games, I'd play them a bit with the vanilla system just so you have a better idea what changes you'd want to make with gameplay altering mods. There's lots of clothing/armor mods for the Type3; I can't make any specific recommendations since I'm probably one of the few who doesn't use the type3. It has own search category so finding things shouldn't be hard. Although if you want a better male body replacer, there is breezes FO3 males. For environmental mods I'd look at Fellout or Project Reality with nmc's texture packs. Greenworld really changes the feel of the game, adding trees everywhere. Lots of character look add-ons abound, but the big packs do tend to conflict with one another. Since you got a good set of hair packs, how some eyepacks? Riven's adds a lot: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/5304/? You might have to do a merged patch to get it work with Project Beauty. Have fun.
  10. Observing humans, capturing humans, doing evvvvvil experiments on hapless humans, crossbreeding... Why? So that they can find every last one of those robot ponies.
  11. Don't know if you've solved this, but have you tried using your mouse with different ports? I'd test the mouse on a different system just to confirm whether or not it's the source of the issue. If the problem persists, I'd try uninstalling the mouse from Windows and forcing windows to re-install it upon re-start. I'd look into any BIOS updates for your board too. It could be a issue with the ports that may be fixed with an update. There's a big topic I found at Microsoft that describes pretty well what you're describing, but I didn't see any certain fixes. You might notice something there that stands out to you there and points you in the right direction if nothing else works. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/9075972d-21e0-4040-9c5d-48d3c2deda7c/mouse-deselects-active-window-wont-respond-until-ctrl-alt-del Hope it helps.
  12. I got so much new stuff off the steam sale right now. Can't quite decide what to focus on. Lately I've been playing Rouge Legacy, Bioshock and Just Cause 2.
  13. Pacific Rim It was fun, awesome and entertaining. It may not be deep or have A-list actors, but it delivers what it promised; giant robots bashing giant monsters. It could have been terrible and I had actually thought this movie would turn out horrible since I had little faith that hollywood could do anything like this in live action well, but I was wrong. Props to Del Toro for taking the risk and making it work. BTW, this is probably the closest anyone will ever see to a live action Evangelion(minus the teen angst and daddy issues of Shinji and the teens girls, thank the lord). It's not as great the Avengers(that's hard to top), but it's worth seeing. Go. The soundtrack is rocking too.
  14. It's supposed to be a H.P. Lovecraft inspired area, named after The Dunwich Horror. Betheseda is a big fan of his apparently. It's implied the weirdness there is due to the obelisk discovered under the building. (You did find that, right? lol)
  15. I'm 32. Sometimes I feel young, yet I still feel out of the loop with most gamers. Maybe i'm just getting old.
  16. I think it was Finaly Fantasy II(4) on the SNES that really got me started in gaming. Before that, I did play games, but it was mostly the common action platformers like mario and only casually; nothing that ever caught my full interest. I even had an intellivision way back then. It was FF that introduced me to huge worlds and storylines and there on I sought more of same.
  17. Of the games I have played... Let alone actually owned. Metal Morph for the SNES. If the T-1000 terminator trope and Heavy Metal music ever had a combined turd, that would be it. Ugh.
  18. In my recollection I can only think of two series I've marathoned; The Phoenix Wright series Super Robot Wars Alpha series I also know back in the day I played Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross back to back. Not sure if that counts as series since it's only two games. There's lot's series I would like to marathon, even older games, but I just don't have the time like in my youth.
  19. Well from I can tell, Pic 1 has better Anti-Aliasing; Pic 2 has better view distance. Play around with your object fade and AA settings to get it your liking.
