Crash when being near sky haven temple...
SmilingAhab replied to allemannen's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Just tried it. Uninstalled, restarted, installed 12.1. No difference. Upgraded to 12.4, still didn't solve the problem. -
Just tried 12.1 and 12.4, neither fixed the problem. So I dunno what to do :ohdear:

What's this "Cap" you speak of? It's the Catalyst application profiles. Where's the uninstaller for that? It's not in the control panel uninstall menu and not in the uninstall dialogue for the CCC setup application.

Crash when being near sky haven temple...
SmilingAhab replied to allemannen's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I knew I wasn't the only one! See my thread for what I've already tried, I keep a rolling log there: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/648093-karthspire-ctd/page__view__findpost__p__5120257 Also several people are talking about crashes after updating (whatever ATI cards are called nowadays) to the 12.3 drivers. Anyone else running the ATI cards? Because I am and I don't remember having this problem before. If anyone can find a link to previous versions of drivers, I'll roll back and tell you all what happens. There's an invisible wall around SHT that keeps you from discovering it before Alduin's Wall. I wonder if something in the latest patch or drivers has bugged the wall? -
How to prepare for (avoid) steam updates?
SmilingAhab replied to kevkiev's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
The whole skyrim folder. the binary, the dlls and the Data folder are the targets of the "upgrades". Only way to stop them I suppose is to register the game and immediately set Steam to offline mode, because once it starts "updating" Skyrim you can't play until it's finished. And yes, it will overwrite your Steam-made backup, that's why you use 7zip or somesuch to back it up instead. -
Problem is that 12.3 is the latest. I miss my nVidia laptop. Same thing happened with me in Karthspire. Updated to 12.3, can't go near the place. At least I think that could be the problem.
-
I have the disk copy too. The only time you have to be online is for the initial registration. After that, if you fail to put your Steam in offline mode, it will not allow you to play after you are somewhere with no connection. Also, Steam has to be online to update, because Bethsoft does all their patches though Steam now. And unlike what GeoHoundJason said, you have to be connected and online in order to go into offline mode. It's the most stupid thing ever, but it would seem that the option doesn't come up if one cannot connect. If this is a problem with my setup, more power to you, but I've seen it in a lot of places. Not really liking this setup, but if it's the road Bethesda wants to take, it's the road they take.

It's only as bad as it looks if you're from a culture that uses a ton of spices in everything. And that Sunlight Souffle video was EPIC. +100 Internets to you good sir!!!

Gotta love that boreal forest! A passenger train runs from my city to Alaska and goes through the northern edge of the Rockies in Alberta. Figure that's as Skyrim as it gets short of Hammerfest, Norway.

Thanks for making me look crazy ;) I know it's too much nutmeg, it was obviously either a typo or Bethesda employees don't know how to cook and subsist on the standard geek diet of ramen and Red Bull. I edited my last post to show that I wanted pelt-clad Vikings to cook the EDITED recipe. Or Bethesda employees have a twisted way of poisoning their enemies!

Careful using the p-word. That's one-strike-worthy stuff right there. I haven't found a way to get around whatever's happened. I tried every save right back to the first save outside of Helgen - every one CTDs at the cell Karthspire is in. Which I find odd, seeing as I've been to Old Hroldan and Soljund's Sinkhole. Can't fast-travel to them or Karthspire Camp now. And of course, Bethsoft's answer is uninstall, reinstall, wait for the next patch. EDIT: Tinker time: TLL: No - disable LOD, reload cleansave, FTT to Old Hroldan, proceed toward Karthspire cell, CTD COC: No - coc karthspirecamp gets me to the camp, but the moment I get to where I discover Karthspire proper, CTD COC KarthspireCamp + TLL: no coc karthspirereboubtexterior: no coc karthspireredoubtstart (inside of the cave) and walk outside to continue the quest: no above+ setstage + port esbern and delphine in: no, they don't talk about the quest above - setstage: no, they freeze, CTD any of these + TAI (just a wild guess): no Just got the Creation Kit. Dicked around in it for a bit to try and see if I could mod the Karthspire experience so it would work. No dice. Downgrade to 12.1 ATI drivers, upgrade to 21.4 - nope, neither

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/615440-rebuilding-skyrim/ searched rebuild, on first page. You're welcome.

I just read "Uncommon Taste" and I would strongly advise against trying out the recipe for "Sunlight Souffle". If you add a cup of nutmeg to the rest of the ingredients listed, you're just asking for trouble. You will taste nothing else except nutmeg and you might be putting your health at risk in the process. Check the section about "Psychoactivity and toxicity" in the nutmeg article on wikipedia. Don't try this at home, people :yucky: . Bioy Yeah, just caught that. Still want to see someone in pelts in the frozen hinterlands make a video of making this stuff in a cast iron pot suspended over a fire and upload it to the utube. without the lethal levels of nutmeg, of course.

Do you have any mods on? Going near important areas in the game used to CTD me when I had my mods on (only a dozen cosmetic ones at that), and I'd turn them off and the area would load. This is the first time I've seen this happen through a total wipe. I really hope my saves don't have something in them that's causing the CTD. I don't wanna go through 90 hours and 200+ quests again...
-
Whenever I go near the cell Karthspire is in, I CTD. Period. I just did a clean save, wiped my skyrim directory and reinstalled and updated, and loaded my clean save. And it still CTDs in the Karthspire cell. WTF. Anyone else have this problem?

Quite right. It's my major fast travel hub to a lot of southern Skyrim. I'd imagine that since the script can hide elements until activated, which is how houses are upgraded, then Helgen can be rebuilt from a quest obtained from the Jarl of ... whatever hold it's in, and done Assassin's Creed style, more macromanagement than anything else. Anything more complex would probably require beyond SKSE, maybe dragonscript. There was another thread somewhere on the forum where someone was talking about upgrading all the old cleared ruins using vaguely this method, and the thread went into startling depth at what the CK and scripts were capable of. You'd be well off looking for it. Yeah, I'm lazy. But yeah, tired of running into bandits. Good idea. maybe combine forces with that guy making the improve ruins mod and call it the Civilization of Skyrim.

WAT. You do Sheogorath proud my friend!

I'm wondering if anyone has made either of the recipes in the book Uncommon Taste, or other recipes from Skyrim (as best they can given the non-real nature of some ingredients? They sound delicious, as do a lot of the recipes in Skyrim! I know, I know "But Ahab, the recipes are so simplistic! Any dolt with a pot can make them!" Well, that's not the point of being a total nerd now is it!? I hope I haven't been left to make these and post pics... UPDATE: , discovered by AxlRocks!

Really? I've only crashed once, back near 1.2. with 1.5 I've had some problems with the shaders, but that might be because one of the half-dozen hi-def mods I've got. I'd consider it stable. Still got too many quests that break like glass if not initiated perfectly, and still too many broken by wandering, but that's a script problem, not an engine one.
-
So. Wandered into a Redoubt in the Reach. Killed everything. Later on, I broke into the inner sanctum of the Temple of Dibella, got the Heart of Dibella quest. And can't do it because all the Forsworn I have to save little Fjorta from are dead. Any way to console this quest back to life? Wait a month in-game or something? Or is it like Blood on the Ice and Gauldur Amulet and gods only know how many other quests are irreversibly broken by simple wandering? EDIT: So I reloaded from a previous save and Fjorta was standing in her cage at the end of the empty redoubt. I have no idea what happened.

N-N-N-Necropost! This is the exact same thought I had! Also, why when I follow a random man into an abandoned house (sounded better in my head...) do I get caught in the machinations of Molag Bal with no way to piss on his or any other Daedra's petty schemes the same way one can piss on Azura by turning her star into a massive black soul gem? Damned if you do, having to spoil the game with the wiki to avoid them if you don't with the Princes. I want options to screw them all over! Especially Mehrunes Dagon in that museum quest! DON'T THINK I FORGOT WHAT YOU DID BIG D ಠ_ಠ

LE The Blood Elf Male Pony Tail! Yeah I said it!!!
SmilingAhab replied to Silverz0's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
Apachii actually went over the "shiny" problem, and it was related to the problem wherein that mod's hair would turn black around light sources - something about not supporting alpha channels. There's a missive on why the vanilla hairs were created either in the mod or on the description page that should shed some light on the problem. The Gamebryo problem overall is that it's more akin to Maya than an actual game engine, like Source or CryEngine. DGMR, I'm playing the s*** out of Skyrim, first game I've bothered to buy and play in years. But the Gamebryo engine was the University of Manchester (I believe) engineering department's architecture engine of choice. Saying something. -

SmilingAhab replied to Silverz0's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
Ok, so I didn't do a good job explaining it. If you'd like to know why, see the limitations of the Gamebryo engine and follow the original thread that asked this question here. Basically, in Apachii's mod what you're seeing is a static mesh fused to the character's frame. It's still not actually free-flowing long hair. This is has always been a limitation of the game. Put on a set of Dwemer armor and see what happens to that long hair mesh. Let me know when you're done crying ^-^ -
Well, the new version does exclude NPCs beyond a certain age. But of course, not every NPC is listed by the game as the correct age...
