  1. Hi! The CBBE mod says: "Add the following lines to your *"Fallout4Custom.ini"* file located in "Documents\My Games\Fallout4": [Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal= " but unfortunately in my Fallout4 folder there is no file named "Fallout4Custom.ini" What do I do now?
  2. Argh! Sorry! Thanks for the reminder. Fortunately, a moderator edited my text so that only those who knew about it would get it! Thank God for moderators, ay?
  3. How human are synths, exactly? The Wiki says "The Generation 3 synths are synthetic humans genetically engineered entirely out of organic substances and are virtually indistinguishable from real human beings." Just suppose your player character subscribes to the philosophy that the humans are not killable (except in self-defense) and machines are perfectly killable. But if there is a live human in there, you wouldn't want to kill tin-can-you-know-who, for example, would you! And if he is just a machine, then he or others like him is perfectly killable. (Ref: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Synth )
  4. The part that infuriated me was when I was on my way to Vault 81 and I passed by Oberland Station. I got a quest to go rescue someone who was kidnapped and there wasn't even a *hint* that it was a timed quest! I was busy with Vault 81 when time ran out and I got the error message "Quest Failed!" and I reloaded my earliest save and I tried all sorts of thing to get there in time, all of them futile! Grrr! Not fair! I feel that the game is cheating because I wouldn't have taken on the quest if I'd known it was timed. In fact the next game I play I'll "discover" the location where she's kidnapped *first*, then get the quest and fast travel straight there!
  5. Sometimes when I'm playing with my brother and our friends, we all run around the back yard, pretending to be enemies shooting each other, by pointing our finger like a gun and shouting "Bang! You're dead!" Then the one we shoot is supposed to fall over and pretend to be dead, until we put our hand on them and say "Okay, you're alive again!" Then we can get up and be friends again. To me, that would be the perfect way to play Skyrim. We could kill the bandits, then loot the bodies, then do a magic spell which resurrects them and lets us be friends. Can anyone do a mod which makes that happen? To prevent the player from exploiting this and killing them again for extra loot, it might be best if they were resurrected without anything to loot. And that way if we return to the area, we would know in advance that they are our friends because they would be wearing only their underwear, and we would not shoot them.
  6. As you know, Nexus says at the bottom of their pages "Like pretty much every other website on the internet, we use cookies". If everybody does it, does that make it right? What do you think? I'm not suggesting it's wrong to use cookies, I'm just asking whether you're convinced that "it must be right" if everybody does it. I recently saw online a quote saying "Wrong is still wrong even if everybody does it, and right is still right even if nobody is doing it!" So, what's your opinion?
  7. I'm re-downloading my favourite mods, after a computer disaster. I've found most of them, but I can't seem to find one of my favorite followers, "Something" Rose from the ground floor of Candlehearth Hall in Windhelm. I've forgotten her first name. She comes with a choice of two hairs, blonde or reddish and a choice of very little makeup or more makeup. When you meet her, she's naked because you have to choose her clothes and armor and give them to her, but she carries a Grandmaster robe in her inventory, which she eventually wears if you don't give her any other clothes or armor. Does anyone remember her? She used to be on Nexus, and maybe she still is, but I haven't been able to find her. Thanks in advance for any info that will help me to find her again.
  8. I normally put stuff like meshes and textures and the .esp files into the data folder. But many mods are "fomods" these days, aren't they! Like "XP32 Maximum" skeletons, for example. They seem to have dozens of folders, and I have no idea where they all go. It's just confusing. Is there any place I can go to learn about fomods that's simple and straight forward? Thanks in advance for your help.
  9. My main aim, before I started playing my first game, was to play lots of games and try each of the different endings (NCR winning, Legion winning, Yes Man winning, etc) But no, I just couldn't do it for one overwhelming reason that made all other considerations pale into insignificance. And this is it: If it wasn't for Mr House and his robot, I wouldn't be alive today. I know, I know, it's just a story, albeit a very involving story, but each time I play through a new game, I feel compelled to support him for that reason! I don't want to feel like I'm betraying him. And as for killing him, well, that is definitely out of the question! I owe him my life, when I'm playing one of my characters, so I haven't ever supported any other faction but him and his robots. (I play on XBox, because my PC copy keeps crashing to desktop on start-up, for some reason. But that's all in another thread.) Moonlight Over Water (Smita Chand)
  10. My mod isn't working properly! I hope I've followed the instructions correctly. I've only just got this game for the PC on 31st August, although I've played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 to death on the PC with lots and lots of great mods. I've never experienced Steam before, and I've never used an OMOD. But the game has been playing well, with several other nice mods, before I installed this mod. I downloaded the mod "Cass and Veronica Shojo restyled" http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40991 and the description says to download Shojo Race Vegas http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35097 so I downloaded that and installed it first. Shojo Race Vegas says I also need the update to avoid problems, so I downloaded that and installed it as well, (to SteamApps\common\fallout new vegas\Data of course.) Next the description for Cass and Veronica restyled says I need Children of the Wasteland on http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1903 so I downloaded that and installed it next. Then the description for Cass and Veronica says I need Anthony Lings Coiffure on http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35352 The description on Anthony Lings Coiffure says "To prevent crashes with custom eyes, pick a stock hairstyle first, choose your custom eyes, THEN pick a custom hairstyle." I couldn't see any hairstyles or eyes in the download, he probably means when you're starting each game. (My English is good but not perfect.) The installation instructions of Anthony Lings Coiffure says to *first* download the previous Anthony Lings Coiffure (for FO3) from http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8942 and to install *only* the BSA, texture folder, and mesh folder from that (not the other files). Then he says to install the .esm file from *this* archive. I'm guessing by *this* archive, he means the one on http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35352 not the previous FO3 version on http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8942 On the FO3 version, he was quite specific about the load order, so I know I've done that correctly. But when I started the game and met Cass and then fast travelled to Veronica, parts of their skin stretched as far as the nearest wall, and then the whole screen was dominated by long triangles of pale colors, seemingly from the horizon to the side of the screen. Boo-hoo! I've just tried uninstalling and re-installing the whole thing, without my mods, but now the game keeps crashing to desktop on start-up! Oy! I shoulda made a back-up data folder before installing, like I normally do. Help me please! What am I doing wrong? What should I do? Edit: I think there may be a problem with the mod "Children of the Wasteland". I tried downloading it again, and I'm getting error messages as I unpack it. It looks OK to me, but my computer won't let me move it to the Data folder or delete the previous copy. It's especially complaining about the 'eyes' folder - the names of the files in there being too long or something. 2nd Edit: Moving the texture sub-folders of the mod into the data/textures folder gives the error messages "are you sure you want to move the system file 'thumbs' into the textures folder?" and "Cannot move '01hair'. A file with the name you specify already exists in that folder." 3rd Edit: Yeah, there's a little *folder* in the data/textures/characters/hair folder called 01hair.dds, containing about 90 hair files. I wonder which mod that belongs to? And the textures/effects folder of the mod *looks* empty, but contains 5.5 kbs, so there must be a hidden 'thumbs' system file in there. How weird! 4th edit: I got Steam to re-install the game from the disc. Still crashes to desktop on start-up. Then I tried reloading the game without *any* mods. Still crashes to desktop on start-up! Ay-yi-yi! 5th Edit: I uninstalled the whole game, then deleted all remaining folders, then re-installed the game. It's a pity that I cannot use the mod, and no-one has been able to help me with it, but at least the game is finally working again. Bye! Moonlight Over Water
  11. Yes, it was called "Cheating Orb" and it was on http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32036 . I have no idea why it's not there now. I used to use it to start off my games after changing the script to the stats I wanted to start the game with (player.setav armorer 39, player.setav sneak 31, player.setav waterbreathing 1, etc etc ) I used to go to the orb straight after exiting the sewers. Ah, the nostalgia! I wish I had that mod back. I wish it was still available! There's a similar cheat mod in Morrowind called "God Shrine" which was a triolith in the Addamasartus Cave. When you clicked on it, it gave a nice clap of thunder, and a message, "Your Gods bless you", and it changed your stats to cheating ones, and gave you some nice cheat items. An online friend of mine showed me how to change the script from this to this. I told her the stats I wanted, and she put the altered script up on her website for me. She showed me how easy it is to change the script from the original cheating stats to the desired stats. Maybe someone who knows scripting could make us another one. Stats of a hundred for you, and I could alter it to the stats I want, as well. Moonlight over Water
  12. Hi! Thanks for the advice. I did as you said, and successfully got a data folder with an esm, two esps, and meshes, textures and sounds, so that part was successful. A well-earned kudos for you! When I loaded them however, (after saving a copy of the data folder, of course) I got messy eyes and faces, some missing altogether. Even the vanilla races were messed up. I had to delete the data folder and put my copy of the previous data folder back in. I'm not sure what went wrong there! :( Looks like I might not be able to use "beautiful people" after all! :( MoW
  13. No, I haven't got any pip-boy mods. Thanks for the thought, though. Any other thoughts about what could be happening? MoW
  14. Argh! I posted in the wrong forum! [Moonlight slaps herself silly] Thanks for the helpful correction! All the best, Moonlight
  15. El Cheapo Games have just put out a game called "War Zone 4" - and Zenimax-Bethesda are suing them for the use of the word "4", which rightfully belongs to them since they published "The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion"! :) And just think how crushed Little Gem Studios will be when they get a summons for putting out the game "The Elder Statesman"! I'm kidding of course, but it wouldn't surprise me! Moonlight Over Water
