  1. In response to post #24698319. #24698634, #24699224, #24701314 are all replies on the same post. My post talked about some of what you mentioned. They wouldn't be able to control it, its up to modders to know if they're content is being used or not. Game breaking mods: You'd have to go after the modder himself, goodluck claiming that money back. Steam will never get a lawsuit and less millions get screwed. Having it on a free timed demo is the best way to solve some of the issues with bad mods or people trying to make a quick buck. They should have easy to roll back versions to stop mods from breaking people's games. They could even take down versions with known bugs to prevent others from purchasing it. The issue is that there is almost no way to control every single mod, to make sure each and every mod is up to standards for dlcs.
  2. I would welcome an easy way to pay for mods if the said mods are priced fairly. Steam has been one of the only resources I've bought games off of. I'm very old school when it comes to using money on the internet, I don't usually leave outside of steam and newegg, that's just the way it is for me. I won't pretend I've donated to mod authors or this site. My issue with this whole thing is a couple of things, I come from a cod background so my views are very linear. 1. Removing modtools, free modding. I would not buy a new es game if modding was solely based on this new system unless it proved to work out great, more on that later. I stopped buying cod games after WAW with the exception of blackops. 20 hours in blackops and it was a waste of money for me. WAW was the last game with modtools. It was the last game with dedicated servers. 2. Pricing. This is a huge issue on cod games, you pay around $20 for each dlc and you get a couple new maps and perhaps a zombie map or similiar. That is a crazy price for the content you get. They make games half finished these days and force you to pay extra for the complete game. This could turn out to be the same for pay-for mods. There may be a minimum price that modders have to charge. Let's look at twitch.tv streamers and paypal. Most if not all streamers have a minimum donation amount, why might that be? There is minimum charges on paypal and I'm sure even credit cards, exchange rates between countries, etc. So this may mean a modder can't make 1-2$ prices. Now I have seen steam sales with dlcs of 99 cents, weather this extends to the modders bank account, I do not know. I would imagine there will be fees somewhere. Some modders may charge whatever the maximum amount is, what if another modder makes a similar but not an exact copy of the above modder and then sells it for less. Just like phone companies or cable companies. I can't see how this will not affect the community, people will think twice about giving advice to new modders, experienced modders may take a novices ideas and make money off of it. Will the novice endure? or will he simply leave with the thought of "never again". I haven't donated because I do not have money to throw at games, even though I know most of the modders here and elsewhere are MORE THAN DESERVING, than any cod dlc(haven't bought any of those). I always have expenses like many of us do, and gaming in general comes last. I haven't bought any new games since a big steam sale last year, I bought one game. Steam already has the ability to make a free play for x amount of time, a demo basically. I bought borderlands 2 on sale because of the free playtime. I just happened to see it in my games and thought why not try it. Steam could make great use of this if the modder is willing. It would certainly make that $5-20 purchase for a mod worthwhile for me. I get to try it, get hooked, then I need it. $1-5 I probably would take the chance. It may not seem like a lot but multiply it by 100. Yes I've downloaded 100 mods or so. I've endorsed a couple at least, I feel really bad thinking about the freeloading I've done. Which is why I really wouldn't mind having a pay wall, but make it so I can at least get hooked on a mod before I buy it, otherwise I may not buy the mod at all, or even the game. Again my views are very linear coming from cod. The early cods were great, cod4 still playing to this day. Change for me, especially the way they are going, its like this happened before, oh wait it did(COD MW2- and beyond).
  3. I find it funny you didn't address any of the valid points made by people on here, that most of them collectively agree on " dumbing the game down". Magic Repetitive perks i.e magic schools top perks all the same. same for 1hand 2 hand and marksman. enchantments polearms dungeons although improved, have not even met some modded dungeons from oblivion. I wanna see something that is pitch black more often, stuff that actually pops out at you. More confined spaces, id love to have to get down and crawl to make it through a small tunnel or passage way. Controls and UI - need i explain why many want this changed first and foremost? why it has been simplified solely for console users? My biggest gripe with skyrim is the controls and the UI, it just makes the game feel like a spinoff to pc just to get some sales. I can't bind my mouse 4 and 5 buttons to controls, um wth is that. why they have to have what button you need to push to do something in a menu, what happened to simple mouse clicks, i don't wanna see R to craft when that's not even the button i use to craft. I don't really wanna see any button controls past tutorials. The second would have to be the fact that acrobatics is gone, and nothing really replaces it. I hate the fact that this game has so many mountains and yet i can not jump over a small rock. Give us a climb button for small stuff! why is it this was effectively mastered in a game like cod4 which is 4 years old!
  4. In my opinion i think Skyrim could of been a better game had Todd paid more attention to PC rather then console, do i blame console for it? Not really Todd Howard? Still no. I don't really care what flaws the vanilla Skyrim has because the modding community has always been awesome in fixing issues, addressing problems such as magic, combat, quests, etc etc. If people don't like it then they don't have to download that mod. Everyone seems to be complaining about everything they didn't do, but i mean that's why we have mods??? For example i would love to see an xp based leveling system in skyrim, like in oblivion. I would also like to see more perks, more of everything, because rpg's just can't live up to say playing cod4 online for years and still not be bored of it. Your playing with yourself. With the same stuff. Its just like a wife almost. Mod's keep things fresh and new, i replayed oblivion probably 5-6 times and i only beat it once, cause i just had to start over with some new big mod like oblivion xp installed. Vindekarr you seem upset. I've had many many people jump ship from console to pc, not one of them has a basic computer. Elitist is a strong word, i think of it more as a word used when someone feels upset or jealous because some idiot needs to boast about his/her pc. I built my own rig, spent quite a bit of money on it, am i going to boast about it? hell yes. Just like anyone would with a new fast car or truck, etc. I don't see why you care so much what other blowhards may say, and the pc name being dragged through the mud?? Man its been beat to death, stabbed, dragged through s***, burned, tortured, long before you ever came along, i think the pc name will survive. You may ask yourself well by who? I believe the developers nowadays are a number 1, simply because they see sales figures and instead of investing time in the community that made them, they would rather see more money in their pockets. The whole terminology of people on xbox that think pc gamers as a whole are all aholes or geeks of some kind. Hackers, whats more to be said, i know console people think pc games are full of hackers, hey at least we can kick them. Finally i think the loudmouths, that need to start these types of forums are probably the biggest trolls of all, isn't pc just so great! So i most likely lean towards the elitist side of pc gaming, but i can't ignore simple facts that so many have stated before me, with no construction kit released yet and no word on dx11. Other titles that simply crushed my spirit for fps gaming such as mw2 blackops and mw3, there just isn't any love for pc gaming by console developers.
  5. I think some people get to carried away with things they want to see, or think it should have. After all who's going to play vanilla after the first 5-6 months anyways, maybe longer for some of the more complex mods, but ill be looking for some armor and weapon mods after my first play through or even make my own. I just hope they make it possible for modders to improve on any aspect of the game that they see fit, and not be limited it least as much as possible. Typically i think i modder is going to spend more time on 1 thing say like armor than the artists would, cause they have so much more to do. They are creating everything in this world, every single detail can't possibly be accounted for, even if this was next gen. Personally id rather see current gen that modders are some what familiar with, and not to mention hopefully have a very stable engine to work off of. I hated the fact that oblivion would crash after you modded it or at least increased the chance of it. Sure those little artistic touches would go a long way or even a next gen game, but id still rather a good solid engine, a good story, and controls. Starcraft 2 for example, where at first when i never played number 1 and i thought ill never get into this game for sure. Played campaign and i was hooked, i don't even really like rts all that much but the story was great. I think i've played through it 6-7 times. Other games like BlackOps was supposed to be next gen fps, i maybe logged 6 hours into it. Played campaign once it wasn't bad but it felt dry and boring and times, haven't played it since.
  6. I dislike the 6970 cause it was a filler series to begin with, they changed the naming as well. I was referring to other games if i was going to go with a 7970, you could then crossfire it afterwards and get some good performance instead of switching to another series. I wouldn't get another 6970 unless the price came way way down, and that won't happen until the high end 79xx comes out. I thought the pci e 3.0 was only rumored for 79xx series, then again i could of read old news.
  7. I think Bethesda should focus on why would people want to skip dialogue, I mean even on my first play through of the game i skipped quite a bit of dialogue.
  8. That is such a waste of money on the 6970. Its been out for so long and the better/newer 7 series will be out sometime in April i think. Anyways the point im making here is that: 1. skyrim isn't a demanding game, since well no directx11 support on release. Todd said it may happen in the future but who knows when. 2. 6970 is already plenty of power to run that game, since this isn't like a quake engine based fps game there's no reasoning on going past 60 fps. 3. the 7 series cards at least the top 3 big ones 7990 7970 7950 will have a new architecture @ 28nm process. Really a 6870 would do it at close to high settings, but personally id wait for those new cards before building some kind of beast machine, cause the 6 series will sorely be outclassed. Also its rumored that pci e 3.0 may also be included. If that is the case i would get 2 7970s and crossfire them, if not i may just get 1 and if i needed the extra boost before say an 8 series with pci e 3.0 id just get another at a cheaper price on a later date.
  9. The whole lagging behind thing should be a thing of the past, at least that's my opinion. I hated the fact that whenever you had to either follow an npc or let an npc follow you, you would always run into trouble at some point. A great example of this is one of the fighters guild missions where you have to follow the guy from leyawiin to an old ruin, not only was it slow going getting there, but on top of that he had to go through the whole dungeon to get a quest update. Then he'd tell you there was another ruin somewhere close by you would have to visit and at this point im pulling hair thinking wtf i gotta follow this guy again that walks 3 steps every minute. Adding atmosphere like a battle or some kind of action sequence or even the ability to just run past him, would greatly improve those follow the idiot npc quests. Also i don't like the idea of how every time an npc sees so much as a mud crab he runs after it just to kill it, how many people honestly escorted martin to cloud ruler temple without fast travel? Only companions mods i did like were the ones that gave you an easy resummon spell, which still was annoying. There's much much older games that have over come this simple fault, i don't care if you have to make the npc teleport to you after a certain distance is obtained, just fix it.
  10. Is the combat system going to be better in the sense of fighting with allies against one enemy? Back in oblivion if you were using anything with some range you'd not only kill whatever enemy it was but you'd also hurt/kill your ally, which may end a quest. I hated battles like the battle for bruma cause npc's got in the way of my swing and died, which then gave me more infamy points. I've had to type "resurrect" in the console countless times, enough so that i binded it to a button push.
  11. When you said pop-up issues i thought of windows, i really hope they can fix it in such a way that there is almost a zero percent chance of crashing while in windows. Also id like to see xfire work with a modded skyrim, oblivion couldn't be played with xfire in game enabled or even xfire altogether. Im a competitive player i like me xfire
  12. I normally play online games like cod4 and starcraft II. Whenever we were bored with scrimming or pubbing in general, me and another guy would play oblivion. We played for hours, just talking on ventrilo about quests, where each of us was in the game etc. So yea there was a downside we weren't playing in the same game but it was still fun racing through oblivion or just talking about some things in general. I can't play oblivion on my own anymore, i miss the unique conversations you'd always get into about a certain quest or a mod. Then someone else would come in the channel and have no idea what the hell we were talking about. Were both planning on getting skyrim when it comes out and doing the same thing, were also going to race and see who beats the entire game first, should be fun xD Enclosing i never even looked at the oblivion multiplayer, i knew it existed while playing the game, but i also knew how much you gotta break the game to get at least some workable version. To me playing separate copies was just fine, and we still had loads of fun.
  13. Id have to agree with you there, they said they don't have enough time to animate spears into the game, yet this makes it in there?? Anyways i think modder's could do a better job at creating this kind of stuff as they are not limited to an esrb rating.
  14. Didn't Todd state he wants to see mods on console games? I have no idea how that's going to work cause i don't see pc modders taking the time to port their work to console, unless its effectively a 5 minute job. Anything is possible but i think this dream of his is way to far out. Thoughts?
  15. There was a lot of limiting factors in the previous engine, but as said in the previous post if they have access to the orginal source code and can legally change it at will, well then it is technically gamebryo but with the massive changes i to would call it by a different name. Personnally though i think they've started from scratch with a completely new source code.
  16. If they cant do a flight system, i would at least like to see a better way to travel around in the real world and finding places. From what i've seen theres quite a few mountain ranges and i dont like the idea of being able to run up a mountain etc Id like to see a climbing system for cliffs and steep slopes, it would be slower than finding a path but then it gives you the ability to do your own thing and make your own choice. Oblivion really suffered from this at least for me, it made going north more of a chore than something fun.
