oh and you were right in saying i messed up in deleting the files, whilst moving my steam directory i found out i completely missed a chunk of them, so thanks for the detailed response, helped in setting things straight for the future

appreciate the feedback, turned out to actually be a weird quirk of the game - looked to a random lp online after giving up for the day, seemed as though the guy had the same issue. further validated it by loading up my old console copy of the game and testing it myself. not sure why but shotguns just seem to act very strangely in the game. since there isnt much to be done about it, im going to leave the thread here.

changed damage for reference

im at my wits end with this - i seriously have no idea what could be causing it anymore. i noticed early on in a modded playthough that whenever i equipped a shotgun (and only a shotgun) the damage for all my other weapons would change wildly until i unequipped it. obviously i thought it was a mod issue at first, but i systematically disabled my mods one by one and tried new saves with each disabled in sequence, only to find that it still happened. today, i finished a fresh install of the game, completely purged the directory and started from scratch, not even nvse installed. loaded the game vanilla to find this s*** is still happening with literally zero mods. does anyone have anything resembling an idea about why this might be happening? ive completely exhausted all troubleshooting options im aware of.
