False "save corruption" during gameplay
waylander47 replied to Ramagast's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim SE
Like I said before. This issue is multi factoral. I was running a rock soild game. Then I added Wet and Cold. It started to pop up the issue every 40ish min. If I added iNeed it dropped that to 25ish min. But if I pulled off Frostfall, iNeed, and WC, then only added one of the 3 back. No issues. When I have 2 or more of those three. I have issues. Makes me believe active script load plays a roll. I picture the engine like a circus juggler. throwing balls in the air 5-6 balls in the air, no problem. As long as they are all stable and the same ( aka form 44). But make it 8 or 9 balls. It's going to badly after a bit. Way harder to keep in the air. Or make one or two of the balls different than the others in size and weight (form 43) and you start to have problems at even a lower number of balls. What I need is a 128 bit engine, with an SKSE that works for it, and all the mod authors for the mods I like to slavishly conform their mods to my ideal skyrim play though....bu somehow, I'd still mod it till it broke. sigh... I tried out the new bash. It kept throwing a lot of errors. But maybe I could give it a go again. It's one of 2 form 43 esp I have that I am unable to convert. Also I'm kinda proud of how many times I could mention the term "balls" without it being weird. -

So i have increased my installed mods. currently running 251 esps. I only have 2 old form 43 in my load order (one of them being a bash patch). I ran 2 hours of fighting, questing and crafting. No issues. I have gone through each mod converting it, esmifying it's masters, and making sure all my meshes are converted. one confirmed mod that causes the issue, despite being updated it Wet and Cold, which makes me sad. I get the bug around 40min with it installed, ran it without it installed (and no other changes) 2 hours no sweat. Put it back (and no other changes) bug at 45 min. -

Well. If you use a basic scientific method: observe, hypothizse, test. I can disprove the thrashing bug. I'm not getting the bug, and I am over 270 esps currently if you take into account my disabled esps. And my last build when I was getting it every 15min or less, I had 235 counting disabled. That's two different builds that disprove it. Best guess: It's multifactoral. I think the new engine can defiantly handle a lot more bumps and errors before crashing. But I do feel that the old form plays a roll. 1-2 probably ok depending on the mod. Multiple, and a few errors here or there from bad conversions or sloppy edits....too many straws on the camel. Obviously we all harp on "good modding practices". I think just adds another layer: Check your mods form number and check it for errors in SSEdit before you add it to your game or merge it. And if you convert it, ESMify it's masters. That's the route I took. And now I have an awesome running game with more mods than before. No bug. Granted took more time to build....but no having to restart all the time makes it worth it. Side note: I added AFT back to the game. 1 hour of solid testing. No bugs. So it is good to go. Also of note: I am beta testing the 2.1 version of MO2. I don't think it has anything to do with it. But it is a variable so I will state it. This weekend when I get home, I will post my load order so you guys can look at it. It will at least give everyone a list of mods known not to cause the bug. Next up is Campfire and Frostfall. Then I will put in AO2, and Sounds of Skyrim once AO2 gets updated. -

I don't know what really causes it. But my current theory is the form 43, plus a good mix of improper conversions (not esmifying masters and then converting it, which leads to a bunch of little errors). You add up enough of these and it clogs up the engine like bad fuel in a gas tank. Sure the car can run, but poorly and you need to restart it a lot. This would account for the vastly different load orders we have and it causing bugs. And it would account for the random nature for each person. Also accounts for why that ini fix posted earlier helped some, and not others. It even accounts for us not having this error in Oldrim; it's not like we were importing Morrowwind mods into Skyrim. Occam's razor. -

There is a check old version SSEdit script you can run and it will list any form 43 esps you have. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6847/? -

The only reason I haven't installed any audio mods is because I am waiting on AO2 to be updated. Then I will try them out. Since I have a beautiful stable game, I am going to add one mod at a time, and see if the issue arises. I do have 3 form 43 esps in my load order. But I cant get them to save in the CK. So I will have to deal with it. But don't forget to ESMify your masters when you save them in CK and then espify them back!!! otherwise you get a boat load of errors. -

If I had to pin it down, I'm thinking the follower frameworks or the audio mods. Both are way outdated, and everyone has them. So we shall see. I'm going to add AFT and do a run later. Then I will let you know. But now that I have an awesome (dare I say stable) game....I can slowly add one mod at a time and test. -

WOOOHOOOO! I have fixed my game!!!! Not sure if this helps you guys. I had the bug bad. real bad. about every 15 mins. I got so fustrated that I nuked my game and started over. I just ran 3 hours with hard core crafting and everything TRYING to get the bug....never did. Ran sooo smooth. I'm currently running 235 esps, with over 500 mods (using merges). WHAT I DID DIFFERENT: I kept a miticulous list of my old load order and my current. So I could track changes. -First off I converted every single esp I had to make sure it was form 44. The is only 3 that aren't. When I converted them I made sure to check for errors, and that I ESMified all the masters. I did this for all my mods, pre merge. -no subtitles -updated all my mods MODS I GOT RID OF: Vivid weathers (Changed to Dolimite) Lanterns of Skyrim (Changed to Claralux) Warzones Genesis watchtowers reborn Path of sorcery (just went with straight ordinator) the eldar scroll tomes EFF (went without a follower framework, becaume I'm using all custom followers anyways, and I just increased my max followers) Royal Armory Extended weapons Weapons of the third era Dyndolod Audio overhual 2 Sounds of Skyrim Skyrim flora Overhual/Simply bigger trees/Realistic Aspens (went with forest of Debella) Monster Mod (went with SIC now that it is out) visible favorite gear notice board Legendary Skyrim Crossbows Convenient Horses (went with simple horse, and better horses) wearable lanterns (went with quick light) Otherwise my load order is the same. In fact I added other mods. Other things of note: -my total plugin list (counting disabled esps) is 269. myth busted -I'm using SKSE64 and SKYUI -myth busted -a few of my mods that i use have since been updated since my last game, so I can't rule that out. I might try and add thos audio mods back in, I didn't think it was them, but I'm waiting on Audioovhual to be updated, which the mod author promisies soon. -

I was referring to you, just merge them to the strings folder, and put the patch on the second. Let it overwrite. It has many of the same files, so I would let it overwrite since it is supposed to be loaded second -

If you unpack both bsa. then check the properties.... Interface/strings: 58.3MB 105files patch/strings: 37.8MB 120files So they are not the same. should we unpack the files? and put one on top the other? -

I'm currently going through every merge I have, and making sure every esp was converted to form 44 pre merge. Then I was going to move all disabled esps to a seperate folder. I'm hoping that works. -

Ditto. Well Since I had this save issue....I'm going to just take a break from skyrim for about 3 months...and let this SKSE be updated for all these mods...cause...like holy crap. The amount of mods and updates about to start flying around the next few months....wow. I won't be able to keep up! Then I'll come in and rebuild my game. -

Well thats why im saying its not plugins. I have 235 plugins i used to have 250 or just below, now i get the bug if i play for few hours. Some people are resolving this issue (as reported, anyways, if it's reoccurring after that then we wont know until reported again) using these methods, so while it's frustrating for those of us whom these fixes do NOT help, we still can't negate the ideal that it's not helping someone, somewhere. This leads me to believe there may be many random triggers, ESP count for some, script heaviness for others, merging and INI tweaks for others, and yet still, GUI mods. For me, it seems to be directly tied with mods that alter the crafting systems and add a lot of items to the game, at least from what I can visibly tell, anyways. But looking at everything, if you get the bug in a couple hours, you're doing pretty good lol. Yeah, My current test to see if "I'm gett ing the bug" is starting a new game, and running all my little configeration menus (books/spells) and then doing the "camping in the woods" alternate start, running to Helgan, then console fast travel to Riverwood to pick up a few quests, then console fast travel to Whiterun. By the time I get the quest to go to pick up the dragonstone...my saves are "corrupted" -

Yeah. Now I'm leaning that way. But I removed a fair number of script heavy mods, just switched over to dolimite weather from Vivid, and cut reinstalled my enb along with reverified my game files....sigh....My only other option is to undo all my merges, and then recheck them as well. (I have a fair number of them). But this is becoming a pain. -

So I was getting the bug every 10mins or so. Had an active plugin cout of 253. Through some mergeing, but mostly just unchecking esp I lowered my count to 185. I still get the bug, AND I have the ini tweak installed. -

I went back a few pages just to recap what you did... and I think you never really gave specifics as to what you actually did... Would you mind covering what you can remember doing recently for your current setup? Aleski134: You have eliminated the bug? Could you post a new modwatch? But to summarize, all you really did was shave down your mod list a bit, do the ini tweak, and change out your weather mod? What weather mod were you using before? FOR THE NEWCOMERS AND EVERYONE FOLLOWING ALONG: This is what we have found out to this point (to summarize 88 pages of discussion): SSE bug-> In game it shows your saves to be falsely corrupted. Happens at semi random intervals. Once present: +/- game freeze, +/- new quests not being activated, +/- not being able to communicate with certain NPCs, +/- menus not showing text. All issues are solved once game is exited and reopened....until it happens again. - Bug not mod specific to a single mod - No obvious correlation to string count - +/- results with removing sky UI and subtitles - bug seems to be accelerated by lots of crafting menus - Some correlation with plugin count. The magic number seems to be in the ballpark of 170-180 active esps. - Merged mods are okay. - ini tweak seems to help some people, or at least slows its appearence down - depending on load order it can appear from 30 sec to 3 hours in game, with avg time being around 20min Here's the ini tweak that seems to help: [General] sLanguage=ENGLISH uGridsToLoad=5 uExteriorCell Buffer=36 bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=0 iPreloadSizeLimit=4194304000 bUseHardDriveCache=1 bUseBackgroundFileLoader=1 bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=1 uStaticNeverFade=1 iPostProcessMillisecondsLoadingQueuedPriority=5 bForceFullLOD=1 If you are on a system with 16GB of RAM or more, use this: iPreloadSizeLimit=8388608000 I miss anything guys? -

Yeah I've been playing with it for a while now. I have come to this opinion: It's caused by too much going on at once and it is different for everyone's load order. No one mod is causing it. It doesn't seem to be game breaking so long as you don't mind saving, closing out, and reopening your game every 30min-1hr or so (depending on your load order). But IT IS annoying. Why we never saw this in Oldrim...I'm guessing SKSE had something to do with it. For me, this bug really only kicks off quickly if I'm doing a bunch of crafting, or I get to a new town and get a bunch of new quests in a short period of time. HOWEVER...despite this super anoying bug, I'll still take it over random CTDs all over the place like in oldrim. Bottom line: I'm tired of trying to fix it. I'm just going to make peace with restarting my game every hour... -

yeah that happens to me as well. I just removed "assigned storage". The filters were crazy big. The book text fixes when it's in your inventory. You can grab it, put it in your inventory, and then read it.
