Does anyone think this is a good idea?
HeavyHandz replied to HeavyHandz's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Yes wayne. This could be a thread for folks such as myself who are new to the site and don't know anyone but would like to combine forces to get it in and get it out. It would be a good way for the vets to sharpen their skills as well. -
I've noticed that this is missing. It would be particularly useful for larger projects. I think this would be a great section for fellow modders to get together and get their mods cranking. Quite simply someone who excels in one area may not be the best in another. One person who is good with scripts could make a mod proposal and ask for someone who is good with texturing or modelling, so and so forth. Maybe some power teams would be forged in the process? Power teams that put DLCs to shame. That would be nice. Maybe this has been tried in the past but was unsuccessful?

I Have an Idea for a New Mod
HeavyHandz replied to jcscrogs's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
You don't like prospecting? Why!? The local map thing you speak of is already integrated into the game. Just click the button that says... Local Map. I'm so glad they added that in there because places, like the REPCONN labs you speak of, might as well be labyrinthes to me. -
Changing the way a NPC walks

Mature Discussion: "Offensive" Mods

What is your understanding of it? That I look like a caveman or that people's faces get broken when my hands collide with them? You would be right on both accounts. Yeah I admit, I may have been wrong to say that people who advocate child prostitution in a game should go kill themselves. Here's my correction, if you support pedophilia or child prostitution, go watch the movie Hard Candy. Jeez I hope I didn't offend anyone. -
Wasteland Soup [mod-in-progress]
HeavyHandz replied to Soupstorm's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
I like the idea of the wasteland itself causing status penalties. For now though, you need to revise those carry weight statistics though unless you plan on integrating backpacks that increase carry weight. You mean to tell me I can't lift and carry something that's 61 pounds? Or carry around a full combat pack? Something more like carry weight 50 + (10*STR). I like the idea of revising the point distribution. For future builds, maybe some kind of increased hydration and nutrient burn with increased exhaustion when you carry above a certain weight dependent on endurance could be added (as well as that increased exertion during the day you're already including). I think it would be great to implement Imp's More Complex Needs in addition to Ambient Temperature. The weapon degradation thing would be greatly benefited by weapon specific degradation like RZ1029 mentioned and modified ammunition values as well. You might want to consider making weapon cleaning kits, kind of like what Earache had in his FO3 mod. These would reduce jams if used properly. You could elaborate on the weapon repair system by making, parts of the gun break rather than the whole gun, but I couldn't tell you how possible this is with the game engine. For instance, the barrel conditions (among others) on the older 19th century pattern weapons would be piss poor, especially when found on Fiends, so therefore they would suffer an accuracy penalty. You could make the "service rifle" just jam all the time hahaha. Even modern rifles with direct impingment systems constantly fail to cycle after about 500 rounds without cleaning them. I think those directed energy weapons should suffer catastrophic failures if not properly maintained, especially if they are used in the heat of the Mojave. Think about how sensitive the optics would be to kinetic shock and environmental conditions. Because they are powered by mini nuclear reactors, I think it would be plausible if the weapons had a chance to explode if hit by a stray round. That's a lotta crap to add but hey I'm sure you'd make a lot of the realism/gun nuts on here happy, myself included. Let me know if you like any of these ideas, I got a whole book of those. -
Mature Discussion: "Offensive" Mods
HeavyHandz replied to FatherAzerun's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
I'm offended by mods that make my FNVEdit go nuts, and for some reasons mods that turn Fallout into an anime game. But seriously I can understand why some folks would get offended by the Nazi stuff the neo-nazi dude had uploaded considering how evil the Nazis and the rest of the Axis countries were. It actually kind of bothers me that neo-nazis are protected by freedom of speech in their marches as long as they don't become violent. This happened in Chicago I believe a couple decades ago. I don't understand how saying kill Jews, kill blacks, kill anybody who's not a skinhead white dude does anybody any good though. From what I've heard from my cousin who's in a federal penitentiary, the neo-nazis are pansies anyways, they never fight one-on-one and when they do they have no skills with the hands. I'm sure the deutschland guy was a punk anyway, and he probably got punked in high school too. Only thing positive I can say about the real Nazis is that they had some nasty guns, tanks, and planes and their military went hard as dino doodoo. The Army Men mod kind of just goes against Fallout canon considering the US is not the US anymore. But to me, the fact that in the Fallout universe women are casually seen in combat roles is illogical. Wouldn't women become too precious to be thrown out on a combat patrol given the dwindling number of humanity and the need to repopulate? In the present day, females are free to enlist in any branch, but they cannot accept infantry combat occupations (like say a rifleman, SAW gunner, or marksman). That doesn't mean that they hang out on the base all day and do their nails. That comes from a bad girl I went to school with who is now a combat pilot in the US Army, stationed in Afghanistan now I believe. I'm not sure why this is a rule but I do remember reading that experiments were carried out that showed women (at least in the test) do not have the strength or physical endurance of men in an extended combat situation. That being said, I believe this was more of an excuse to not give women hazard pay. I think its just plain dumb to want to make Arcade not gay, and Veronica not bi. So Arcade likes playing hide the sausage with guys and Veronica plays both sides of the field, big deal. Arcade knows not to step out of line with me. Maybe if he gets a high enough kill count I'll download that all male resort mod for him hahhaha. Veronica spits game to me, so I know she's not a lesbian. Even if she was oh well, maybe she'll get us a VIP discount for spending more at Gamorrah than I do. The mods that change all the bodies of the men and women to look like stereotypical football players and cheerleaders are humorous to me. But hey I still use some of em. Personally I think my PC should have muscles because I do. I think the working women in new vegas should have big knockers and big cakes cuz hey, they wouldn't make any caps if they didn't. But don't make em all fake looking for goodness sakes. I'm one of those idiots that doesn't care if there's 9 foot tall killer horned lizards, super mutants with miniguns and zombified ghouls walking around in my game, I want the combat and the humanity of it to be as realistic as possible. I can't believe people said it would be cool to have child prostitution in a game. You people must not have kids. Also, go kill yourselves, in real life. Those are my opinions, take them as you wish. -
Now WTF still CTD
HeavyHandz replied to hangman_86's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Yo, you said at the top you were running your game clean with no mods. Now you say you running with almost no mods? Don't just give up on the game, make a clean install and don't use any mods that edit worldspace. I still don't know which screwball mod I installed that decided to rip a chunk of the area near the Boomer base completely out causing violent CTDs if I so much as sent a teammate that way. I did a clean install and I realize the mod took out a whole bridge, some exposed sewer and a lot of other stuff which I had not seen with those mods installed. Also make sure, if you don't already, that using FNVedit to make your own overriding patches is required if you want to reduce CTD and game breaking changes. And I agree with you, I hate Steam and anything that even looks Steam. -
How did I know you were going to say that? Hahah just update Fallout New Vegas and you won't have this problem anymore. It should auto update when you start Steam, but if it doesn't go to your games tab, right click FONV and well you should know what to do from there. To be safe, make sure the game runs with the new update, then begin your modding rampage. Good luck and happy modding.

Please be more specific. What FOMOD did you install? What version of FOMM are you using? What version of NVSE do you have? What version of New Vegas are you running?

Now WTF still CTD
HeavyHandz replied to hangman_86's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Do your other games work fine? Maybe your video card is fried, maybe your RAM chips are dying? Troubleshooting a non-linear game developed on an aging engine by a company that is known for making crash happy games that is integrated into Steam is to be expected. Crashing is to be expected. Why are you complaining when people are trying to help you? Obsidian is probably even less capable of fixing these problems than Bethesda was so we can't count on them to fix the CTDs and everything else we've grown to live with. You gotta try out the known workarounds. If all other options fail, make a restore point. Run system restore. Or, backup your save, uninstall the game and delete the entire folder. Hey at least you won't be losing 300 mods in the process. If that doesn't work make sure your computer isn't the issue. My buddy was having the same problems you describe with WoW and FO3 and he found out his video card was cooked. He got a new one and he's back to being a pasty hermit. -
1mb/sec is slow? Consider me stuck in the mud. Ah this happened to me with FO3 from a mod overdose. Do you even see the first slide, where it says gamebryo engine, facegen, havok, etc? If you do, than the best thing to do is to figure out which mods are the last ones you installed and delete them. Yes, sometimes you will have to delete them rather than just disable them. If you don't even get to the first slide, FOMM or NVSE are in a scuffle and you may need to revert to older known working versions. Good luck.
