  1. Hey, I've played through Fallout 3 GOTY and beaten it. Now, a couple of years later, I have a new laptop that runs Skyrim on high and want to run Fallout 3 on it, since I had to run it on low before to get a decent framerate. Anyway, whenever I load an old save or start a new game, whatever the settings, it crashes to desktop within 5 minutes. Framerate is consistently 15+, and there aren't any visible signs of an overheat. My specs: Computer: Gateway NV5922h CPU: Intel Core i3-370/80m 2.53 GHz 2 core 4 thread "hyperthreading" RAM: 4GB DDR3 GPU: AMD Radeon Mobility HD 5650 1GB VRAM I've looked everywhere and tried everything, including the multi-core .ini fix and various .ini tweaks.
  2. I don't mind running it at absolute lowest settings - I ran Oblivion like that before upgrading. Even New Vegas I tend to run at 640x480 with absolute lowest settings except for draw distances to reduce lag in V.A.T.S. I tend to move around a fair bit, and it's no guarantee that I'll be able to get to the computer any given day. With the laptop, as long as I've got one plug-in spot available I can run most games, or the older ones if I don't have that plug. The main draw is portability - and I've still been able to run most games at relatively high speeds. I don't mind if it doesn't look pretty - and I've got 4gb of RAM, so I should have some to spare for the Radeon chip. Thanks for the advice!
  3. Thanks for the advice - I should mention that I -can- run the Fallout games maxed out, it just lags like crazy. What I'm mostly worried about is whether a 512 MB VRAM game will run on a 256 MB card. Also, I could probably get a new laptop - I've been meaning to for a while now - but I'd rather not spend the money. At this point, I think I'll chance it, and upgrade the computer if necessary - but could someone who knows a little about VRAM tell me if a 256 MB card could run a game that requires 512 MB? This is the graphic card's ram, not the computer's. Thanks!
  4. Okay, so I've been laptop gaming since January 2010. I've been able to run Oblivion on very high, Fallout 3 on medium as well as Fallout New Vegas. Everything in the system requirements just released for Skyrim (released here: ht tp://ww w.bethblog.co m/index.php/2011/10/25/skyrim-system-requirements-announced/ without the spaces between http, www and com) says I can run it... except that it calls for 512 MB of vram, whereas I have a measly 256 according to GPU-Z. My graphics card, such as it is, is an integraded ATI Radeon HD 3200 chipset. Can this run Skyrim, or should I cancel my pre-order? Considering I got Oblivion to run on an ATI Radeon 9550 with a single-core cpu at 2.66 ghz, with 1 gb of ram, so I'm hopeful.
  5. I voted for Argonian, because they're what got me excited for the Elder Scrolls when I played Morrowind. Even in Oblivion, they were quite enjoyable, and now with the redesign in Skyrim they should be just spectacular. As for the character him/herself... I had a whole backstory written around the lore in Oblivion, and I guess I'll just have to see how the lore has advanced in Skyrim to really define the backstory there. Perhaps a descendant... perhaps the same character, via vampirism or some other thing... s/he'll probably share the name. I might just erase the Oblivion character from the canon.
  6. I dunno... I think I'm too much of a Jeremy Soule fan to seriously want this kind of music in-game. But if they WERE to include it... Rhapsody of Fire. Google it.
  7. I won't be booking that day off - stupid in-school co-op placement and 80% attendance agreement - but I will be playing the CRAP out of it that weekend... always assuming I can tear it away from my brother. I'll probably be good and let him play it first... and then play it myself as soon as the modding community releases a multiple save-game utility. I'll probably have to get it on Saturday, too, rather than Friday... so I've got good reason to keep playing Oblivion, at least for now.
  8. Thank you for all of these. I have used Integrations before, but didn't realize that there was a romance within - it's such a big mod, after all. Might have to re-download that one. And based on your classifications, I'd say that romance mods would be more what I'm looking for - and perhaps the companionship mods.
  9. So, I've modded oblivion. I've unmodded Oblivion and then re-modded it from scratch. I know how to take x number of mods and use the instruction and directories to combine them into mod y and make them compatible. I've searched high and low, downloaded adult (sex) mods from the simple prostitution system to the Lovers with PK english translation and still haven't quite found the mod I was looking for. I want a sex mod. No, not fap material, just a mod that would allow my character to become romantically involved with say... Ida Vlinorman, or some other random NPC. Have to spend time with her, that kind of thing, and when sex happens... either have it be of the screen-blanking kind that New Vegas featured, or have it be dialogue-based - the game provides actions on the other end, and you choose how the character reacts. Prostitution could still be included, of course, it's just not what I'm looking for, per se. I'm only posting this because I haven't been able to find anything like what I've just described. I've got the Internet for fap material, but I want my character to be able to boogie in-game.
  10. My vote will be for "yay", since I find underwear immersion-breaking. In my opinion, Bethsoft could put a password-protected nude option in, meaning that parents could set a password keeping underwear on for people who are concerned with that; if not, then make it a removable inventory item so that roleplayers can pantyraid. Nothing finer than the Dovahkiin slaying dragons, saving Skyrim, and secretly hoarding people's underwear. Seriously, though, it's an issue - particularly with the Fallout series, which I enjoyed unmodded otherwise.
  11. Thanks - it's not exactly what I was looking for, but it does offer variety.
  12. I'm in the minority of people who played Morrowind before Oblivion and liked Oblivion better, although Morrowind had certain qualities that definitely redeem it. Among these is the fact that Morrowind, being nearly 10 years old, has one heck of a lot of mods behind it. I've got nearly a hundred of the things, and so far the only one I've turned down is the MGE because my system can't run it above 5 fps. As I said, I've enjoyed Oblivion more, perhaps just because it was easier to get into. I've got numerous mods for it as well, as well as a couple that change body weight since hey, not everyone's going to have a perfect-looking body. I've looked, but haven't been able to find anything similar for Morrowind - and considering the sheer volume of mods out there, it's a little hard to find. Anyone got anything similar that they know about? Thanks in advance.
  13. Looks like a pretty good idea - have you checked out ActionDragon's page on DeviantArt? He had a fat mod going on for a while, and has left a beta of what he did - that means meshes for the characters. Here's the link -> http:/ /actiondragon .deviantart. com/ (remove the spaces)
  14. Thank you. I think it might have been the restore tracers - I reinstalled FWE a few times, but those both kept showing up on the list, no matter what one I chose. Thanks for the help! It appears to run well without the patches.
  15. Hey, I've been playing Fallout 3 for about a year and a half - beat it half a year ago - and I just stumbled across FO3: WE while modding Oblivion and Morrowind. From the promo video, this is Fallout done RIGHT. So I loaded the two parts of the file into FOmod (with FOSE installed) and installed them. I also have DarNified UI, so I installed the crossover patch as well as the 6.03 patch for Wanderer's Edition itself. In terms of other mods, I only have one .esp that raises the level cap to level 99. I have FO3Edit installed and a merged patch has been made. Here is the list of mods the way I have them. It is ordered in the way that the Wanderer's Edition readme says to, but it doesn't get to the menu screen. During the Bethesda Softworks vid, the first one that can be skipped, it cuts out, saying "Windows has experienced an error". I have Fallout 3 installed to a Games folder inside of my user folder, and I am running Win7 64-bit. I haven't had any major problems with Fallout 3 before. One more thing: it says that the "Alternate Travel.esp" is marked as a .esm file in the file header, but the extension is still .esp.
