  1. Well, I don't have very many mods. And the only ones that have any voice dialog files in them are the Portal 2 Space Core Mod, and the Unofficial Skyrim Patch. I encountered the problem again after starting the game all over again, so I exited the game, deactivated the USP and tried it again. Then I followed the same pattern of talk and when I got to the part that was silent, it worked again. I guess that was the problem. Though, I'd better keep playing to see if that's a permanent fix.
  2. Has anyone else encountered this? Around the time the new update came up, I have been having voice audio problems. Sometimes, while talking to an NPC, he will move as he is speaking, but there's no audio, and the subtitles just flash by. Sometimes an NPC won't say his line at all and it holds up the quest. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and it hasn't worked. Bug in the latest update, maybe?
  3. I've looked all over, but I can't either find the right reference or don't know when I am seeing it. I need a script that allows me to enable an initially disabled object when a certain quest stage is reached. Can anyone help me?
  4. As I pointed out in my post in the "Saint or Sinner" forum, I play the game with a simpler mindset, as all this analysis that's going on tend to make too much animosity. Usually, I start the main quest first. After killing the first dragon, Jarl Balgruf makes me his Thane. Later on, I go to Windhelm to invite Ulfric to the truce negotiations and overhear Ulfric and his general planning to take Whiterun. So after killing Alduin, I side with the Empire... not out of any great love for it (they DID try to execute me)... but out of respect for the only two people in all of Skyrim (other than the Greybeards) on EITHER side to show me any amount of human decency: Hadvar and Jarl Balgruf. After all, what kind of Thane would I be if I let the Stormcloaks take Whiterun and depose Jarl Balgruf? As for Ralof while on the cart... well, when he speaks, it sounds to me like a recruitment pitch rather than any real compassion, so I don't really listen to him. Even Delphine, who proports to be helping you, sounds like a manipulative little b****, and the only reason I go along with her is that killing Alduin is in my best interests. Anyway, I consider this all a moot point, since the game has not run its course yet. This is only the beginning. The next chapter in the Dragonborn's story is coming out soon on Dawnguard. And if it continues in its logical conclusion, there will be a future DLC out about the Dragonborn's final destiny... which I believe it will be the Dragonborn leading the charge against the true enemies in this whole affair... the Thalmor and the Aldmeri Dominion. And in the course of that, he will probably wind up either reuniting the Empire... or become the next Tiber Septim and build a new one... ... or he could wind up with his own little kingdom like the Champion of Cyrodiil did. I could be wrong. But my point is... let's wait until we get the ENTIRE story told before we decide who really is "the bad guys."
  5. Dunmer were enslaved by the Argonians through trade. And they still are. Isn't it the other way around? I thought the Argonians has been enslaved by the Dunmer.
  6. I've got it working fine now. It seems that this particular quest doesn't like it if you use skill level accelerating mods.
  7. Actually, Esbern is a Nord, and Delphine is a Breton. However, what urked me about the whole thing was that when Delphine tells me that their oaths as Blades forbids them to help the Dragonborn after telling me earlier that they are supposed to serve the Dragonborn. How convienent. Ignore one oath to honor the other... one long since rendered obsolete until recently. But then, you have to rememeber that Delphine is a manipulator. However I also noticed that when you tell Arngier that you are not the Blades' puppet, he tells you that they CLAIM to serve the Dragonborn, but never have. Makes you wonder about the Blades' real motives both now and in the past. Ever wonder why in the beginning of Oblivion, the Blades left a single escped prisoner to guard Emperor Uriel Septim while they fought the Mythic Dawn assassins just before he died? Just something to think about.
  8. Yes, I have. The note doesn't say who ordered it. It just ends with, "Someone wants this poor fool dead."
  9. I'm sure everyone, by now, has encountered a Dark Brotherhood assassin trying to kill the Dragonborn at least once. And I know that the attempts will end once you either join the Dark Brotherhood or kill them. But I'm just curious... does anyone know exactly who performed the Black Sacrament on the Dragonborn... or if that question is ever answered at all?
  10. You know, I'll admit I took a rather biased view, myself, and made a rather heated argument, and for that, I apologize. But let's all remember that this is just a GAME, people! This is not a political debate, or worse, an argument for an actual war. And yet, here we are arguing over the motivations of someone who only exists as pixels on a screen. It's as if all of the old arguments over George W. Bush's justification for the invasion of Iraq are spilling out all over this forum. So, let's all just tone it down (myself included), ok? Before the moderators decide to take action and lock this forum. Or worse, they decide to suspend our memberships. Peace, people. Peace with a touch of maturity. Let's exercise some for once.
  11. Standing in the saddle? Show off! LMAO!!!
  12. Did you notice that it also says that an Imperial victory is not in their best interest, either? And that it mentions that when Alduin attacked Helgen, the Thalmor assisted Ulfric (without his knowledge, of course) in his escape? Notice that when the Dragonborn and Hadvar encounter Ralof again before entering the keep, Ulfric is nowhere to be found? Notice that it also mentions that when they had captured him the first time, they allowed him to escape, knowing full well that what he would do could only benefit them? And also that direct contact was also a possibility? Did you even bother to read it all the way through? The Thalmor WANTED the civil war to continue, and took advantage when the opportunity presented itself. Yes, he is most definitely being played. And, of course things don't get better by just waiting... you have to WATCH while your waiting. Impulsiveness can cost you a country just as easily, if not more quickly.
  13. As I play the game, it becomes more and more clear to me that Ulfric was wrong, not in just killing the High King, but starting this whole civil war. Reason being: Ulfric Stormcloak may be a strong leader, but he is definately not a smart one. His reasons may be noble (personally, I believe that freedom of religion is a right and that anyone should worship whomever they please) but his goals are far too shortsighted. He just wants to drive the Legion and the Thalmor out so that they can get back to worshipping Talos and honoring the "old ways." But despite the fact that he is a Legion veteran who fought against the Thalmor (and got captured) during the Great War, he completely underestimates the dangers of what he is doing. Anyone who has fought against the Thalmor who has two brain cells to rub together knows that the Thalmor are not satisfied with the White-Gold Concordat and plans to finish what they started. General Tullius and Legate Rikke know it. (They subtly hint it to the Dragonborn after taking Windhelm.) Paarthurnax knows it. (Informs the Dragonborn that defeating Alduin is not his ultimate destiny.) Delphine outright SAYS it. ("The Empire barely survived the last war. They [the Aldmeri Dominion] don't intend to lose the next one.") And if Ulfric had any sense in that mass of protoplasm that he assumes to be a brain in his skull, he would realize this as well, and know that starting a civil war to secede from the Empire would not only weaken the Empire, and thus allow the Thalmor conquer it, but also leave Skyrim defenseless once the Thalmor are done with the Empire. And should that happen, the ban on Talos worship and the lack of honoring "old ways" would be the LEAST of their concerns. But... he doesn't. Because he's just an raging egomaniac obsessed with power and too stupid to realize that he's being played by the Thalmor like a secondhand lute. Read their dossier on him when you infiltrate the Thalmor Embassy if you don't think so.
  14. I used to play the virtuous, saintly hero type in Oblivion, but in Skyrim, that's pretty difficult. In fact, the longer I played, the more I realised that it's practically impossible... and in a way it should be. The whole theme of the entire game seems to be moral ambiguity, and for good reason. In a way, it is a reflection of reality. After all, even today in what we consider to be civilization, with all the laws and religions dictating to us what is saintly and what is a sin, no one actually follows those rules completely. How often have we been shocked to find out that a church pastor or a teacher who was trusted for years turns out to be a pedophile? How often have we been shocked to find our favorite sports heroes have been cheating by using steroids? Or how that seemingly normal person living next door turns out to be a wanted criminal? And last, but not least... how often has those certain people that hold their morals so dear that they go out of their way to shove their moral code down society's collective throats, only to show that they betray that very moral code to enforce it? On the other hand, one also must consider the reverse. How often have former criminals who have paid their debts to society and have honestly rehabilitated been shunned by society, forever branded a criminal? How often has an innocent person been persecuted by society, or even procecuted by the law, over rumor and conjecture? How often have people been branded some form of a criminal, or more simply a terrible person, over a simple misunderstanding? (Kind of reminds you of Oblivion every time you accidentally picked up an object and every NPC in the room started screaming "Thief!") In all cases, the answer is the same: all too often. But... I digress... I've noticed that in both Oblivion and Skyrim (sorry, but I haven't played any of the previous games) the games are written as if the Champion and the Dragonborn are strangers in a strange land. And I don't mean that they are from another province of Tamriel other than the one they are having their adventures in... I mean, as if they came from somewhere else altogether. After all, if they really were from Tamriel, wouldn't they know who the Divines are, or the Daedra Lords, or even know the basics of the current events happening around them? Yet, they have to ask every time they come across a situation. What is going on? Who is that? What is this? Etc, etc. One could say that it's written that way for the newcomers to the series... but I take a different approach... and that is... well... Ask yourself: what if YOU were to suddenly find yourself in a world like Skyrim? Somehow, someway... YOU were taken from your "civilized" life here on Earth by some Power That Be and placed in this medieval world of swords and magic, with no idea what is going on and what is happening around you, finding yourself on a cart with three strangers, your hands tied, being taken to a medieval village to be executed and then suddenly attacked by a giant black dragon? For me, the answer is summed up in one word: survive. Survival by any means necessary. If I have to please the Divines, or become the champion of every Daedra Lord... whatever it takes. And if you really think about it... that's exactly what this game is all about, the Dragonborn doing whatever it takes to survive to fulfill his ultimate destiny... whether it is to become a member of the Companions, or the College of Winterhold, or the Thieves Guild, or the Dark Brotherhood, or the Thane of all nine holds... or all of the above. So, to conclude my all too long post here... let me say that I play Skyrim as if I'm not concerned with being a saint ot sinner... I play the survivor.
  15. Was there a Vampire Dust in his inventory? You can't harvest the blood of elven vampires. I usually get this quest rather late (after level 20), then simply carry the Extractor and harvest the blood each time I loot some poor guy's corpse. Sometimes I can't even see their faces, so when I see the "Harvest blood" option, I think "oh, that guy was an elf?" Have you tried to harvest the blood of another elf of the same race (another Bosmer if he was a Bosmer, for example)? No, there wasn't. And I tried that. No dice.
  16. I wonder how difficult it is to miss a topic with an all caps title " !!!DO NOT POST SPOILERS IN THIS SECTION!!!!" in the General Skyrim Discussion forum. This time I moved the topic to the correct forum. Next time you ignore the warning, your topic will be removed and your account too. -LM Sorry. Sheesh! I'm only human and make mistakes.
  17. OK, I managed to include those values in the nif file, but if I make it larger, the point goes off screen, so how do I lower it a bit so the whole sword shows up on screen in the inventory?
  18. Thanks for your service. I was US Navy, myself. (Yeah, yeah. Make your jokes, I've heard them all.) :)

  20. No, I don't have the blood of ANY elves, yet.
  21. I seem to have a rare bug for the Discerning the Transmundane quest. After returning the Runed Lexicon back to Septimus, he immediately read it and gave me the Essence Extractor to get blood from elves, rather than sending me away to wait until he deciphered it. The reason for that is most likely because I was already past Level 15. Now, that's not the problem. The problem is when I get to an elf bandit and kill him, the option to "Harvest Blood" doesn't come up when I search him. It's worked before, but doesn't now. I've Googled this bug, and it seems that only a few have had it, but it has happened to others. Is there a fix for this?
  22. For some reason, the nif file doesn't have those values.
  23. I put a sword object into my game, and learned how to make a 1st Person Model Object so that it would show up in the game's item menu. However, the sword shows up looking small compared to the vanilla objects in the menu and it shows up looking like it's lying flat rather than pointing upwards. How can I fix this?
  24. I've seen mods out there that have managed to enchant a wearable object with the Detect Life enchantment like on Oblivion. Could someone please explain to me how to do that so I can make my own?
