Your father, apparently having won the award for "Worst Parent of the Wasteland", runs off and leaves his only child to fend for himself in a vault run by a dictatorial madman. You, being a complete goddamn tool with very little in the way of common sense, decide to chase after daddy dearest because, perhaps, he's behind on his bottlecap support payments. After shooting the s*** out of everything you see since anything independent of a special location is unremittingly hostile, you finally find ol' dad in Beaver Cleaver Vault. Despite the son of a *censored* discarding you like yesterday's news you go forth and heroically rescue him from a lifetime of virtual torture - only to have him run off again. This time literally - you can actually watch him high-tail it out of the vault after laying down a passle of excuses and a hasty "thanks". The man is nothing if not consistent in his complete and utter lack of interest in his progeny. In between all this there's some minor story, and afterwards more minor and general boring story, yada yada yada. It doesn't really matter what any of the stories are because they're all basically a yawn-fest and everything ends with you shooting the place up anyway. Really, the only variation is what weapons you use to do the deed this time around. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was more interesting, and that game is an unapologetic shooter. When you finally get tired of trekking through the same damned desert environment over and over again you haul ass to the water treatment facility only to learn that both sides of this supposedly epic conflict have the *same f***ing goal*. Yes, they BOTH want to clean up the water in the DC area. What they're arguing about is simply who gets credit for the deed. Note that it isn't even a choice of cleaning/not cleaning the water, but who gets the accolades. That's it. That's the whole thing. The entire story is a *censored*-fest over a *water treatment plant*. Oooooh, aaaaah. I'm so...very not impressed.
