  1. Vivec isn't heard from again, not because he's killed by the player. The official storyline goes along the normal path for finishing Morrowind

Funny, I always heard he disappeared because the devs didn't want to contradict player's choices regarding how they dealt w/ the ex-god. I still doubt he'll play an active part in any sequels. If any dragon in Skyrim has a chance of influencing future games, its Odahviing. I can imagine him playing a role similar to Nafaalilargus did for Tiber Septim.

  2. I was actually speaking in terms of future TES games when I mentioned that he will be as good as dead. He reminded me too much of Vivec. Immensely powerful and influential but never heard of again in future games because the player has the option to kill him in Morrowind.
  3. The first DLCs will most likely be additional buildings or dungeons since those are the easiest to implement without interfering with the original questlines. After that, additional shouts, spells and even item types, like the inclusion of spears and crossbows, isn't outside the realm of possibility. I imagine a Falmer or Dwemer DLC will be in the mix.
  4. It's possible though unlikely that he killed the CoC since the CoC was very possibly the old Listener and the assassination took place 187 years after the CoC closed the Oblivion Gates. Considering what most players did to their Adoring fans, I imagine the last thing he'd see is the Champion's face before being shoved off Dive Rock.
  5. It was rather disappointing. Say what you will about the last quest in Oblivion but at least when it was over, you knew it was over. With no ending credits and not cut scene, I thought Alduin wasn't dead yet and was waiting for a second more horrible form until I heard crickets chirping in my backyard. You killed a power mad demigod and all you got was a sendoff with a side of halfhearted cheering.

I think cannon is going to be that Paarthurnax dies/disappears one way or another like Vivec did, which is a shame. He could have potentially become a much more powerful asset to Skyrim than almost any other force in TES. Being more benevolent and engaged in mortal affairs, he could have recreated the old dragon empire without the corrupt and violent oppression characterized by Alduin's reign. Then again, their continued presence in Skyrim may draw unwanted attention from the kingdoms of the Akavir, especially the Tsaesci.

At least the Dragonborn has a pet dragon now like Tiber Septim had. I give him a 90% chance of being written as the ancestor of the next emperor. He would be emperor except for the fact that player characters tend to mysteriously disappear into obscurity. Not everyone can become the new Mad God after all.

  6. It does make sense. Sheogorath mentioned a certain severed head that may be a reference to Oblivion's DB quest line. My personal theory is that the CoC did every quest in pretty much every faction in Oblivion, making him truly worthy of the title Mad God. Top that off with the curse of the Cowl of Nocturnal and you have a ready made excuse for why no one can ever seem to remember the CoC's name. Hell, he may have even adopted the old Sheogorath persona willingly since that was the only way anyone would recognize him by a name anymore.
  7. Interesting observation on the Stormcloaks. One thing I'll point out though is that the Stormcloaks claim Ulfric killed the old king in a duel for secession, an arguably barbaric practice but theoretically not an illegal act in Skyrim. I doubt the Jarls think this is such a great way of getting power but I imagine they feel the empire simply isn't working in the interests of Skyrim anymore and are looking for change, even if it leads to less civil practices.

That said, I do agree their modus operandi sucks but I'm not certain that Skyrim under the empire would be any better considering the undue influence the Thalmor seem to have over the dumb imperials. After all, while Ulfric may have once been their agent, he isn't their agent now and neither are his people, at least so long as he maintains a stable power base. The Stormcloaks have a unified purpose and a will to execute it. The same can't be said for the Imperials.

I don't see the empire as more forward thinking either. If it was more forward thinking, it would have been able to realize the Thalmor were also badly beaten in the war and would have negotiated better terms. The concordant essentially destroyed the empire's legitimacy for Hammerfell and later much of Skyrim. It is a monolithic organization that's disintegrating due to weak leadership and divided interests. With leaders more interested in taking and maintaining power than securing the empire, I'd wager more than a few are willing to take Thalmor aid to do so.

On Skyrim being defenseless without the Empire, I'd argue the opposite. Skyrim would likely remain independent even if the Empire were to fall, especially if the Stormcloaks take control. The dominion has shown in Hammerfell that it will have more than a little trouble maintaining control in unsympathetic provinces and will likely be far too preoccupied with trying to secure Cyrodiil to attempt an invasion of Skyrim. If they try to directly attack Skyrim, they'll be far from their homeland, fighting in brutal weather against a well respected army. In a way, it may be in Skyrim's interests get the Thalmor to over extend themselves by taking Cyrodiil so that they may swoop in and remake a new empire.

  8. It is kinda odd that Maro simply tried to wipe out the Dark Brotherhood instead of capturing and interrogating them. I suppose it is simply proof of more Imperial incompetence. Astrid's betrayal is mind bogglingly boneheaded though. There's a reason why the DB didn't assassinate every Emperor and that's because the DB knew they'd be hunted down by the imperial army, especially if they failed. Her outing the player as a DB assassin out to get the emperor pretty much doomed the order. Even after the player takes over, I doubt the DB will regain the power it enjoyed during Oblivion. The DB's assassinations pale in comparison to the Thalmor's purges and I doubt the Thalmor will be receptive to the idea of leaving the DB alone after the end of the questline.
  9. I actually like the racism in Skyrim. In Oblivion, besides daedra hating on mortals, racism was more or less under the radar and it didn't really matter what race one chose.

edit: Another note on why the Aldmeri Dominion does not recognize Talos as a hero much less a god is simply because he kinda crushed the original 2nd era dominion when he forged his empire. If anything, he is their devil and they don't want Talos or any other Dragonborn repeating history.

  10. I do believe that Akatosh would refute your claim that Aedra are weaker than Daedra considering the beating he gave Mehrunes Dagon. It's more like they are simply more limited in how they can interact with the world.

As for the Aedra not being divine, they are divine. They had a direct hand in empowering the divine crusader in the Knights of the Nine add-on including Talos. Even if the shrines and blood are discounted, the power you recieve for the final confrontation in the add-on was given by Talos, a feat that is pretty much restricted to gods and they're agents in Oblivion.

I doubt the dominion sees Talos as a great hero. They are revisionist elf nazis who initially gained power by stealing credit for solving the Oblivion crisis in the summerset isles. Given the chance, they'd rewrite the enslavemwnt of humanity as the civilizing of a barbaric child race. The Thalmor are murderous scum who assasinated chancellor Ocato and engages in ethnic cleansing/purges of political dissidents.

At best the book you read was just an attempt to placate the citizens during a bad situation. At worst, it was a first step in revising history and a clear capitulation to an enemy the weak emporer didn't have the spine to resist. It was textbook appeasement. Titus II will not be remembered fondly.

  11. I typically play a guy only but with Oblivion I made an exception. I still originally played a guy but after the mods matured, I switched over to female characters. I'm sticking with a guy for Skyrim for the foreseeable future though. The characters look too stylized, dirty and old now to me to try my hand making a female character. I'd rather make a male and look for a mod that lets him dress in drag.
  12. From what I read, the only thing the White-Gold Concordat proved was how weak and out of touch the leadership of the empire was. The Empire basically tried to sell out half of Hammerfell only for it to secede and kick out the invaders. I wouldn't be surprised if the real reason the Thalmor forced the no Talos condition was so that they can further weaken the Empire with the inevitable infighting that followed. After all, why commit troops and resources to destroy the empire when a screwy treaty will cause it to disintegrate on its own? The empire would have been better off giving the elves the whole of Hammerfell than agreeing with the no Talos clause. Hammerfell would have still seceded but they would have avoided the whole Talos related mess in Skyrim.
  13. Agreed with Lyanheart. The moment you find out that it is the empire trying to execute you just because you were a hobo crossing the border is the moment you know the empire during Oblivion is dead. They couldn't even be bothered to put you in jail for a little while anymore. Just kill the fool and ship him back to whatever crap hole his/her kind probably came from.

MrTastix sentiments rang true too. When two sides are crap, it's tempting to purge them and go for a third party. A shame that such an option wasn't written into the game. I would have loved for something like Sheogorath deciding to annex Skyrim because the number of loons in the Isles were overflowing from all the strife in Cyrodiil. It would be Oblivion with style. :P

  14. It's amazing how vocal the no voters were in this thread. If I didn't see the poll, I would have thought almost everyone didn't want nudity.

    Arguments against.

Fox news, Bethesda sucks, mods are better, you're perverts, I hate sex and nudity, someone please think of the children and you're stupid.

    Arguments for.

Screw censorship, no worse than violence, better base character model, Daggerfall had nudity, nudity is natural, TES ain't a babysitter, and you are stupid.

It's all moot now of course. There's no nudity again without mods. Thankfully they pop up fast. It's like seeing a launch day patch.

My take: If you want to stare at a 3D model of a naked woman, that is entirely your prerogative. It's up to the designers to put naughty bits in. But if naked females are in, so must naked males be as well.

Agreed. Bring on the full frontal nudity!
