Strange. I would have expected a two handed weapon would get a double button power attack too to balance things out since everything else has been tinkered with already. You never really hear anything about it since all the hype is about dual wielding weapons and spells.

Hurray for minimum specifications! I need a new processor... :P

One quick question. Does the lack of blocking apply to having a spell/staff in one hand and weapon in the other? I always assumed so myself but I keep finding contradictory answers to that. My google-fu is lacking.
-
I'm guessing dual wielding would probably be better for the back stabbing mage killers or against monsters without blocking. Still, it seems to be more a limitaion due to controllers than a balancing feature. It isn't as if it is that difficult to set up another dedicated button on a keyboard afterall but an xbox controller's realestate is likely packed as is. Stupid consoles...

I can understand wanting to use 2 shields if it were still possible to cast spells while holding them but under the current system, it just seems silly. The devs were probably worried the combo would show up as a glitch while fighting NPCs if they implemented it. The humor in encountering a turtle would quickly turn to frustration as players find themslves wailing away at them to less than satisfying effect for a good chunk of time.

I loved the simple additions like rendered ingredients for alchemy and clutter that was not just the usual prerendered junk permanently attached to the ground. It was an environment that made you feel you can mess with almost anything and everything had a purpose.

As a lot of people have said, the interaction with NPCs sucked pretty hard in Oblivion. Time would freeze, you would zoom right within two feet of the NPC's face and the responses were about as expressive as a block of wood. Skyrim sounds like they improved the voices though I still worry about how they will handle the sounds of crowds. The "crowds" cheering when I left for the Battle of Bruma or the welcome at Cloud Ruler Temple was just pathetic.

It was nice to see that racism is supposed to be important to the world of Skyrim. It would have been weird to wander around as an elven dragon born with no one even batting an eye.
The number of ifs after he started talking about what could have been done with better hardware pissed me off a bit though. The idea that if they designed for modern PCs, there would be less load screens and more actors on screen sounded like a massive improvement. Everyone hates load screens, being able to sneak into a city by climbing over its walls is very appealing and seeing large double or even triple digit crowds regularly gathering instead would have been awesome.

@fisban0: Thanks for the info. Dunno how I missed that in the info thread. I wonder if I'll be alone in wanting to dual wield torches all the time. :P
-
Its a shame there is no nude mesh included. It would have been interesting to see if anyone would try to throw a hissy fit over it now that Skyrim is rated for adults. Considering how some silly places have laws that allow them to ban the sale of such games though, I can't blame them for not having even a crappy unused mesh in the subdirectories.
On a side note, I hope someone will be able to set up a real heel system for Skyrim. Not to detract from modders efforts but after seeing mods with real heels, older high heel mods always looked weird because of cutoff feet and/or calves.

I tend to go pure magic in the long run and was never fond of fighting with a shield since armor impacted spell casting. I usually either fought one handed while holding a torch or two handed for better reach. Any word on whether torches can be used as weapons?

If they have a psycho spouse quest in there then it would be awesome. "Here dear, have some ale." Then you black out, get stripped naked and sold to Dunmer slavers. Another scenario is the screen blacks out in an apparent sex cutaway ending only for the spouse to try to kill you while you lie in bed in a quick time event. Time those taps right or you're characters will lose more than their virginity that night.
The player then gets a wonderful choice, kill the spouse in a murderous rage or let the authorities arrest your old flame.

Thanks for pointing out the change. I knew you had to equip spells now but I didn't know it would occupy the weapon/shield slots. It is a bit of a nerf but I can see why it was done. Still, I was looking forward to seeing dual casting a spell with a sword in each hand. Hope the modders can come up with a solution.

I dunno why but I like to test the borders of sandboxes whenever I get the chance.

Oblivion? M'aiq is old but not that old. :whistling:

@ClarityNightfall: According to the description on the Asus website, http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_Powerhouse/G74SX/ , your laptop should have DX11. You don't need it for Skyrim but it is supposed to be able to use it in a limited fashion.
To check if you have DirectX 11 go to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Which-version-of-DirectX-is-on-your-computer
Also, if you haven't been updating or just left it to update automatically, go into the control panel and click windows update to see if there are any that the auto updates may have skipped something that you could use. You should also check the Asus support page for firmware updates.
-
@ClarityNightfall: Looks like you easily exceed requirements at this point. The only thing that might hold you back a bit is the hard drive's speed causing slightly longer load times. Barring switching your main hard drive to an SSD I don't see anything else you can significantly change hardware-wise. You should be able to run it on high settings. Funny thing though, the GTX 560M should be dx11. Do you need to update?

@BuckeyeTiba: Tough call on what could be happening with Borderlands. It could be anything from bugs in the program, driver issues, host connection problems, etc. It's a fun game though.
About the noise, if you haven't been cleaning your PC regularly you may want to do an inspection. Whenever I started having noise issues, it usually meant that either the fans were clogged with filth and needed to be cleaned or they were dying and needed to be replaced.
If you are particularly unlucky, one or more of your capacitors on either your GPU or main board could have suffered damage from excess heat, defective materials or simply age.

Such hot blooded brutality. The man is just the obnoxious messenger. Give him a quiet mugging in the night and it would suffice. Maybe two muggings if he decided to make things personal.
After that, a simple combination of burglary, kidnapping and arson to anyone under the employ or in the general vicinity of Bethesda's offices should suffice. Why kill them when you can make them live in misery? Todd Howard would make a great stand in for Paul Sheldon...

I tried to model my first character after myself but it was a real pain to adjust the features just right. I wound up playing a stock High Elf until I started using mods.
-
Before the modding scene gets into gear, I'll play a male. Afterwords, I will make a female since the vast majority of clothing/armor/body mods will be made for females.

@ninjagoat4- Can't really say anything about Radeon since I have little experience with them but it looks like a solid card and MSI is a well known company. From what I was able to google, it is somewhat less powerful than the 560 ti but it uses a little less power. I don't know anyone who has ever had to deal with stuff from ECS though. Either one should net you more than 30fps on high settings with your average monitor so long as Skyrim isn't coded like crap.
-
Tough call without knowing what resolution or PSU you are using. GTX 560 Ti should be good if you are looking for a relatively future proof solution and your PSU is good enough. If cost is more of an issue, getting another 460 may be advisable if you can find it. Most of the major outlets seems to have phased them out unfortunately but you should still be able to find one if you are willing to go the ebay route.
