I found that when I run NMM for the first time the empty Skyrim folder appears there. Is it used for backups?

Thanks for that, panurgy. I've installed these mods and haven't read too much info on the correct settings as far as load order or .ini config. I guess I'm not alone on that one. Probably why some of us have issues.

I removed flora overhaul and installed enhanced trees with the grass. The trees look good but it looks as though there is too much grass. Here is my mod list, I think:

Here is my mod list. I'm going to be trying different mods to see what I like better. The landscape/trees still look "muddy". I was playing an alternate beginning, walking to Whiterun and I had a CTD. Not too concerned about it because I'm seeing what works and what I'd like to remove. I'm going to remove the flora overhaul and try enhanced vanilla trees with verdant grass. LOOT said my load order was good but I got red check marks with Wrye Bash.

I have installed all the tools required for mods: NMM, LOOT, and Wrye Bash. I also have SKSE installed following a tutorial on YouTube. I wound up with an empty Skyrim folder on my desktop. What program put it there and what is it used for?

I was thinking about a mod where you emerge from Helgen keep, find your way back to the border where you were arrested, cross the border and the game ends. You never realize your true potential and learn that you are Dragonborn.

You start off as a prisoner wearing ragged clothes with your hands bound. At what point did anybody hand me a map? I'd like to think that everything was taken from me when I was arrested. Can somebody (maybe me) make a mod where you don't have a map until: 1. You find one during your time in Helgen Keep. 2. Your handed one by Hadvar or Ralof (after the dragon flies over). 3. You buy one in Riverwood or another town.

So I downloaded: enhanced lights and effects, Skyrim 2016 WIP, Skyrim flora overhaul, Skyrim HD 2K textures and the static mesh improvement mod. I'm going to read about STEP before I activate any further mods.

Thanks. I was looking at Skyrim HD 2K. Hardware isn't a problem. I have an i7 5960X and 3 GTX980's in SLI.

What are some mods that I should look at for improving the look of Skyrim? I'd like to improve the look of the game first and then see what other mods I'd like to install. Here's what I currently have installed.

Cleaned the master files with TES5Edit while following the tutorial. Ran LOOT again and no errors were found.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be installing more mods as I see fit. I installed a few to begin with so I can understand how the tools work. I'll be installing more mods in the future. I watched some youtube videos and I know what I'd like to install. I wanted to start small, it wouldn't be too good if I had about 100 mods installed and kept getting a CTD because of some random file. Skyrim is updated to the latest version, checked that before installing any modding tools.

I'm coming back to Skyrim after Bethesda released the "Special Edition". I have the original version of Skyrim with Hearthfires, Dawnguard and Dragonborn installed. I have a couple mods installed using the Nexus Mod Manager. I've read about using LOOT to make sure the load order is correct. I ran LOOT and it's showing me that there are missing references and navmeshes. Do these need to be cleaned? They appear to be the files from Bethesda and not from a mod. Did a mod I install delete/change a file and LOOT is seeing that? Would I need to clean these? I also have TES5Edit and Wrye Bash installed.
