I am going to assume that you know the history behind Mario and Nintendo, if you don't, there is always Wikipedia and Google. Donkey Kong IMHO is one of the most important games in video game history, next to Final Fantasy VII. It had a complex storyline(and possibly the first involving a love triangle), a recognizably female character, A gorilla, and a hammer. Not only that, but they were the first video game company sued for copyright infringement(Donkey Kong looked too much like King Kong) My guess is that either Pauline(or was it Daisy that was kidnapped? I forget) didn't put out for Mario when she was rescued, or that she like the big, affectionate ape more than the short, stinky Italian plumber. Mario, heartbroken, went back to Community College and learned to be a plumber(he was orginally a carpenter), and somehow ended up in Mushroom Land. Unlike her cousins, Princess Toadstool(or Peach, depending on the game and translation), always gave it up for Mario whenever she was rescued, and oftentimes enjoyed the attention of Mario and Bowser fighting over her. Hence, Mario has always had more reason to pick fights with Bowser than Donkey Kong.

I suppose it depends on what you want to believe and how you want to interpret the story lines and the books (if you have read them). I also guess that for those of us who have played the Elderscrolls games we like to believe that Elves are held in a higher regard than as portrayed in DA. I know I was shocked the first time I played through DAO as a human never mind an elf.
TBH, I mentally lump all the TES races into two groups, the "humans", and the "furries"( Khajitt, Argonian, orcs). I never really paid much attention to race, as they all looked the same to me. As for Dragon Age, they seem to be the same as all Tolkien and D&D elves, they are all a bunch of pointy-eared hippies that like bows, nature, and used to rule the world. Mind you, DAO elves seem to be of lower status than most other elves. for one would like to see a world where humans are an underpriveleged minority, instead of the ruling class.
ehornless Quanri are genetic defect in biological termsFirst of all, what are Qunari horns even used for? By calling hornless Qunari defective, that is implying that the horn offer some sort of physical advantage. For all we know, hornless Qunari such as Sten are genetically superior since they have more room for brain mass in their head. What about snakes, are they simply defective lizards since they lack feet?
The children from Elven-Human and Dwarven-Human relationships tend to be Human rather than the "other race" looking. As mentioned Alistair is the son of an Elf and a Human and he is tall, blonde and looks like his father.
mixed race children looking human does make sense from several perspectives. It would be rather convoluted and difficult it a lot of characters had the leniage of several races(E.G. quarter elf half dwarves). If Alistair has a baby with Anora, might it have elf ears? that would be really funny if the Crown Prince(ss) were a "knife ear".

Hai Guyz,
My first issue...
When I first played through Dragon Age about a year ago, it seems as though I was always begging for potions, and most battles were extremely challenging, despite being set on Normal mode. I took an 8 month haitus from the game(I finished my first OC and Awakening playthrough just a few days ago), and the last time I played, which was on hard mode, I rarely even touched any of the potions, and I only used herbalism to complete quests. I know that some patches have increased potion drops, have they done other things to decrease difficulty? To me, the most challenging aspect of the game is trying to deal with the poorly thought out tactics A.I. system(E.G. having my rogue stab someone once, then run away instead of finishing the job).
Second Issue
Also, Is it me, or is there way too much "massive" armor in the OC, especially with the DLC content? I have no problem putting all of my fighters(Oghren, Sten, Alistair, Justice, even Sigrun), into massive armor, but it seems all other types of armor are scarce. This to some extent forces me to dump all of my points into strength, instead of constitution in order to meet the strength require of the high level armors.

Has anyone in this thread played Second Life? While some people prefer to think of it as more of a platform(such as an http broswer, as opposed to a game), it is by far the most immersive.

This reminds me of thesix-button Sega Genesis controller, in the sense that they are appearing to emulate their competitor's hardware. I am glad that they got rid of the Batarang controllers though, I hated those. My main issue with controllers in general is size, small controllers hurt my hands after a few hours. Instead of releasing the same controllers in 11 different colors, couldn't they make variable sized controllers?

Gamers, especially hardcore gamers still have somewhat of a negative stereotype. MMOs are worse than traditional games because they (generally) have more depth, and are more time-consuming.
Do all Brits drink tea at 5pm?
Are all Yanks obese?
A stereotype is just what it is, a prejudicial assumption.
Both of these assumptions are backed up by statistics. England consumes the most tea per capita than any other nation. America has the highest rate of obesity, and are notorious for poor food quality.
I think of an MMO I think of a large, overweight man eating Cheeto's off of his chestActually, many professional gamers are actually in very good physical shape, because they need to be in order to have the lightning fast reactions required for competitive gaming.
I too was/am hyped and bumbed by KOTOR 3 being what it will be.
I personally do not like MMOs, as they are slow paced and repetitive. I oftentimes am disappointed when my favorite franchise becomes an MMO. Still, I understand why MMOs are popular from the developer's side. They are less prone to piracy, and provide a more stable business model since they can charge a monthly subscription fee.

Ok, but you are still missing out on being a shapeshifter, which I thought was tons of fun. But, I suppose some people hate mazes.

Then by your standards D&D "blatantly ripped" of from Tolkien, and Tolkien "blatantly ripped" of from established myths.
Yes actually. D&D halflings were originally called hobbits, this lead to a lawsuit from Tolkien. Also, Tolkien's elves were a bit different than most elves from mythology, although Tolkien has in fact borrowed heavily from Norse and Greek mythology.
Skimpy outfits =/= romance and errotic content.Nor did I claim they did. I wasn't simply referring to skimpy outfits, but the fact that you can "romance" and have sexual relations with female characters, in both a PG and X-rated context. Case in point, look at all the dating sims.
It's debatable to state who started all of this.My main point was that sex in games existed long before Dragon Age or Witcher, thus neither are really groundbreaking for having sexual content in their games.
I would never pay $120 for a game. Considering I think most games these days aren't even worth paying $60 for.Well you wouldn't exactly be paying for only the game itself, you would be paying for a bunch of other crap that will collect dust in your basement that comes packaged with the game.
As far as the "utility" you get out of the game(if you don't mind me applying what I learned in my community college economics class), consider the price of a movie ticket. You'd pay $12 to see a two hour movie, so what is $60 for a fifty hour game? This is coming from someone who paid $20 for a three minute lapdance.

Wait what? Are you patched to 1.04? The only time Alistair stays in my party past the landsmeet is if Loghain gets axed. If he isn't axed, he throws a hissy fit and runs away. Therefore, the only time Alistair will stay in my party long enough to defeat the darkspawn is if he is King.

Thank you Thandal, congrats on your modship by the way. Do you accept bribes?
Anyway, what I don't like about the whole horn issue is that is seems pretty much like a bad retcon. But, while we are talking about Qunari anyway, how come Sten won't put out for the player, does he consider non-Qunari women too fragile?
-
The Qunari don't see it as a defect, it's a cultural thing, just like people in India (a recent example) don't consider a baby with four arms as twins fused together.
That is a really bad analogy for a number of reasons, as last I checked, the Qunari aren't polytheists that worship a hornless god. Still, the whole horned/hornless Qunari thing is just a tad off-topic, as I was more curious about mixed-race children(and by extension interracial sex and social attitudes towards it in Dragon Age). However, since we are all talking about Qunari anyway, I think I can end the debate quite easily,
1.) Qunari are make-believe, and therefore talking about their genetics would not make sense. Like most fantasy games, most things don't make sense when you get too sciencey about them, that is why Dragon Age is called fantasy, and not science fiction. Case in point, how the hell does a Dragon fly, it has tiny wings and weighs about 20 metric tons!!
2.) Whoever designed Sten didn't put horns on him for whatever reason. When making DA2, Bioware probably wanted to add horns to the Qunari in order to differentiate them from the humans(because without the horns, they really are just big humans, just as elves without pointy ears are small ones).

As far as sex, romance, and "erotic" content in RPGs go, I believe that Japan has both developers beat by a decade or two. Sex(aside from Disney-like romances) has been kept out of western gaming mainly because western audiences think that games, to some extent, need to be "kid-safe". Case in point, Grand Theft Auto's Hot-coffee mod, Mass Effect being featured on Fox News(all because of some alien side-boob).The only influence I have seen from the Witcher in DAO is that the romance is displayed slightly more graphically than in previous Bioware releases.
As far as originality goes, both The Witcher and Dragon Age borrowed heavily, if not blatantly ripped off Dungeons and Dragons(E.G. humans are dominant, elves are descended from an ancient Civilization, dwarves like booze and blacksmithing). What bothers me about Mass Effect 2's dialogue wheel is that it appeals to people too lazy to read. I miss the old days when RPGs were all about reading walls of texts.

I am surprised at the number of people who don't like the fade. I personally thought that the fade was Bioware storytelling at it's finest, as it presented a plot device that helped develop all of the characters. Best of all,I got to be a shapeshifter, which was also awesome. On top of all that, you get a bunch of bonuses to your stats.
I didn't like some of the side quests, they seemed a bit pointless eg. get 10 potions and give to X. I don't even accept those, they can get their own. They are called side-quests for a reason. Mainly, they serve to make the game feel less linear, and to give you a break from random killing. Stil, Bioware is more about Epic story and less about sidequesting. Oblivion and Fallout 3 have much more interesting sidequests(at the expense of a much weaker main storyline).

I will do my best not to get too graphic. I just got done playing a Dwarven rogue, who had a relationship with Leliana, Morrigan, and Zevran. Said Dwarf also made a baby with Morrigan. I've checked the wiki, and it seems regardless of the PC's race, he or she can make love to humans or elves(strangely, there don't seem to be any dwarven romance options for non-dwarven characters). The City Elf origin involves humans sexually assaulting female elves. I also believe that one of Zathrian's daughters was "with child" after being sexually assaulted by humans. Last, I read a codex about the ancient elves which I believe said something about human genetics being dominant(and hence them withdrawing from human interaction), does this mean that a "half-elf" is born fully human?
Anyway, here are my two questions: First of all, no one says anything about the warden having an interracial relationship, yet there don't seem to be any interracial couples in Ferelden( although human males seem to have a penchant for sexually assaulting female elves. There is also the Pearl, which has prostitutes of all three races, but no actual "couples").

Donald trump for President?
in Debates
Posted
I am most likely guessing that to counter the fact that the first black president is a democrat, that the Republicans will most likely put in a woman against Obama in the 2012 election.
Here are my predictions for Republican candidates:
1.) Sarah Palin
2.) Condoleeza Rice
3.) Carly Fiornia(former CEO of HP)
While I do not doubt the man's intelligence, I question what incentive(or motive) he would have for running for president. Likewise, pretty much everyone is saying they they might run for president, even if they have less than a snowball's chance in ...
This is basically a way to gauge their popularity among potential voters.
Compared to who? The design of our Federalist government is naturally slow, since everything has to be debated to death. Case in point, Universal Healthcare: Not only did it take over a year to pass a healthcare bill, but he had to make major concessions and compromises to insurance companies and Republicans in order to do so.
