But do regular saves affect performance in the same way? I'm pretty dependent on autosaves, so I'm thinking if autosave isn't the way to go I might resort to some other means, like this save hotkey mod here.

Hm, i think I got your problem wrong. Saving only affects the game during the time it occurs, after saving is done the game should be back to normal. Means if your are running through the world and hit the quicksave key you will notice some lag in movement. A little on fast systems with SSD, probably a lot more with an crappy laptop drive :)

But if your lag is constant, the problem might be somewhere else.

What is your native refresh rate ? Just asking, because I had some funny problems with my 120Hz setup, had to set my refresh rate to 60Hz for skyrim through the graphics driver :)

About BOSS, if you installed it, then you should remember that it requires you to use that turtle program and to get the password for it.

Sorry but I have to ask, what "turtle program" are you referring too?

  3. I wish I could  Mostly it depends on your System, used Mods and (unfortunately) Luck.

Well, my last play-through ended over 3 Years ago, but here a few things I do remember:

Check out this Guide, especially that part about the multi-core fix.

    Other things to consider:

    - Always install outside of the ProgramFiles directory, especially when modding a game

    - turn off all In-game auto-save functions, use CASM instead (always worked for me)

    - Don't use quick-saves. Both quick- and auto-saves can cause save-game corruption (Major Issue in Oblivion, also valid for Fallout3)

    - Before adding any mods, make sure the vanilla game works, that means play at least until you enter the outside world for the first time.

    - Don't add a bunch of mods at the same time, test after each one

    - Sort your load-order with BOSS and keep your merged (or bashed) patch up to date

    Other tools which might help:

Hope this helps a bit

  4. Hm, this could be the infamous ABomb bug, it hits around 200 hours of game time and effects Animations like Doors, Gates, Fires etc.

    Fortunately there is a fix : http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/5127

This fix is also integrated in Wrye Bash (right click on Save-game, fix Abomb)

Edit says: Remember to backup your Save games before you try anything ;)
