His association with the Tacitus and understanding of it would suggest that he is some sort of alien; going by canon, nobody else really seems to know how to use it properly or to look after it. Especially the case in the last few Kane's Wrath missions where Kane berates GDI's abuse of it. Came up with some crazy technology far ahead of the most-funded faction on the planet such as active camouflage for vehicles, coherent lasers with an insane amount of power over metres (lasers normally lose loads of power and cohesion metres from their source), cyborgs and so fourth. Ethics is never a problem for him which is odd for any human. He gives no second thought to any radical decision, and yet is a very able schemer. And of course, he never seems to really die. Clones (if he is always cloned, that is) of him tend to be perfect with his image lasting something approaching a century. There's also the biblical references throughout NOD, Kane himself being one.
