Indeed, once I get a bit better with the modelling.. still learning. I love the look of this one.. not sure if I'll ever get good enough to make that work though.. minus the cherub plus something a bit more lore friendly

Creating a new weapon from scratch
LarianHawke replied to rickygoalie7's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Are you asking how to pull up only one window instead of the quad view? Or are you wanting a custom picture instead of the default grey background? If it's the first question, in 3ds Max, click inside the quad you want to view as fullscreen, then hit Alt +W. -
I like that quote.. a lot. It's the truth, really. And despite the cursing and hair pulling, I'm having a lot of fun learning 3d modeling. I won't give up... at least not right now. I'm sure we'll still see our fair share of 'simple' requests.. and it wasn't my intention to bash on the requesters or ask them to stop requesting.. I simply wanted people to know that modelling is not that simple for everyone and that I realize that, and have a new respect for the quality of models and armor available for us to use in the game, and the people who make them.

I realize there are face and body mods that have neckseam solutions, though not all work for all races. Getting to know my way around 3ds max and thought I would try to make something that covers that neckseam. This is a WIP.. and my first model. Be kind. I'm thinking a leather texture, maybe a metal like a rough silver.. maybe both.

Default-shmault. Sorry was unaware.. I don't use the dark setting, I use white.. Now it will show up on both.

First of all, Admin, my apologies if this not an appropriate forum to post this, but I believe this needs to be said. I can repost in another forum or it can be moved, or just REmoved... but.. I think some of the people need to know a few things before requesting, and then getting upset when their requests go unfulfilled.. I have requested a couple things in this forum, both a certain hairstyle and an armor set. I was a bit upset when both requests got pushed back page after page, and since bumping isn't allowed, I let it be. In the past I have tried Blender, Nifskope, 3ds Max, Gimp, Photoshop, etc.. you get the idea... some programs are fairly easy to learn and some are just brain clusterf***s waiting to happen. After several attempts at trying to blindly feel my way through these programs at an attempt to make my own things, I gave up and requested them. As I stated above, the requests went unanswered, pushed back to page 20 or more.. and forgotten. At first I was upset, thinking how hard could it be to do this stupid armor for someone with experience in the 3d programs when the top is similar to a hide cuirass already in the game. WOW, was I in for a shocker. Rather than make another blind attempt I decided to learn at least the basics, if not more, of 3ds Max. I found 2 tutorial series on youtube from DigitalArtsGuild... I got through the first 4, just the basics, with no problems.. and then I moved on to the next series. I'm about 1/3 of the way through this series (which, making a simple chair, you would ASSUME it was cake), and I am already screaming. So.. to the main point of my post. TO ALL THE MODDERS OUT THERE THAT MAKE ARMOR, HAIR, ETC AND POST IT ON THE NEXUS FOR OUR USE, AND THEN GET PAGE AFTER PAGE OF COMPLAINING ETC, AND TO ALL THE MODDERS THAT PATIENTLY READ THESE FORUMS: Thank you.. for ALL you do. Retexturing and bringing it into game might not be that hard.. but the folks that spend hour upon hour in a 3d program making custom armor or any other kind of meshes... you have my deepest respect. It took me about an hour to make a simple ice cream cone to look like what this instructor was doing in the tutorial lol.. and I really don't want to admit how much time I've spent on only 5 of the 14 videos of this next series. I have learned enough to know that making a custom armor is nowhere near as simple as some would think. It's not just creating the armor.. which is time consuming in itself.. but then you have to conform it to the skeleton or body shape.. and heaven forbid any of us use a body improver  .. then it has to be reworked with materials.. then in another program to declare the textures.. and the lighting.. and honestly people, that is BARELY summing it up. Hopefully people will realize, BEFORE requesting something, that it very well may not happen if it has to do with making it from scratch, or even making it look like something you saw in another game. It's tough work, and it takes time. If you DO request something, please don't get pissed and nerdrage when no one replies, or your request post gets pushed to page 20, etc. ~One more note.. a request at simple manners and grattitude for all the modders out there that you address when you make your requests... realize also that scripting and other modding things are not that simple either, at least not to all. Please keep that in mind as well. What you may consider a simple script or simple retexture, may very well NOT be that simple.~ *Sigh* ok, I'm done ranting.. again, admin, apologies if this is the wrong place.. and one more THANK YOU to the modders out there.

Use Fraps for good FPS display, if you don't already.. that's the most correct I've found... you could try http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6058 for fps boost.. I don't use it but it seems to be what you're asking for.

OMG I <3 you.. lol.. thanks a million.. got it as a .nif now.. woot

Sorry... allow me to clarify.. I recently made a request to have a hairstyle from Dragon Age: Origins adapted into Skyrim.. here. Rather than bellyache and carry on about it not being done, I decided I would try myself. Heh. :wallbash: Within the file of the hairstyle mod itself.. which in DA:O you simply have to drop into an override folder, there are several files with different extensions... re: .msh, .mao, and .dds. I assumed, which perhaps was my bad, that the .msh was the mesh file. After many searches on Google and reading some results in forums, I did finally find some python scripts that allowed import of ".msh" files for Blender, only to receive an error that it was not a valid mesh file. So either way, I think I'm screwed. I have been unable to open this .msh in anything.. I have 3dsmax 2011, Blender 2.49. If needed I could download gmax or maya.. son is a student and has free reign at Autodesk for d/l's. I'm very close to giving up though.. have been at this for about a week or more.

Does anyone by chance know how to do this yet? I've scoured the net for converters, etc and have yet to figure it out... searched the forum and found this post, thought I would ask the same thing..

LE Clothing that isn't going to give my female character frostbite.
LarianHawke replied to CassiPie's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
I agree with this 100%. Fenris is a great example. Every single playthru of mine for DA2 my character has ended up in a relationship with him, even if at the beginning I say ok, this time, something different. Then I hear Gideon Emry and my stomach does a flip lol. It's the same in Skyrim.. Brynjolf is a good example there.. is he a good looking character? eh.. sort of.. but the voice, and the way he calls the female character "Lass" with that accent? I immediately went in search of a mod that made him marriable, and had I not found one, I probably would have researched and done it myself. Back to the point of the armor though, I agreed before and still with everything that's been said. Retexturing is all I know how to do though, and I've tried several times both with Blender and 3dsmax to try and create something and all that happens is a lot of frustration and cursing. But I am patient. Something will come along that will be beautiful, feminine, and lore friendly without half my char's privates hanging out. Kudos to all who have posted in this thread, it's been a great read. -
LE Commander Shepard from Mass Effect
LarianHawke replied to OblivionBonez's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
Tali armor here already.. and a Drell companion.. why not get the rest of it going... can be Skyrim ME style. :turned: -
I was having a similar problem, though when I hit the "Download With Manager" button it would just send me to an error page. I uninstalled, deleted, redownload and reinstalled NMM and it works fine now. Not sure if will help you but might be worth a try.

Ok, admin please believe I'm not trying to bump this thread... I'd originally thought I'd found the hairstyle that I had been looking for (and some others were inquiring about in Mod Talk) in this mod, but after downloading it and trying it out in game, it was only slightly similar, not really what I was looking for.. sooo.... http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r190/ChelleWolff/hairstyle.jpg This hairstyle was modded into Dragon Age Origins, mod can still be found at Dragon Age Nexus.... Don't Worry, Be Hairy.. original hair that the DA mod was made from is called Rosy Cloud.. it's a Newsea Sims hairstyle. I was hoping someone could bring this hairstyle into Skyrim. Please, pretty please.

I know what you both mean. I want the same thing, and I've been trying so hard to learn Blender and Nifskope so that I could try to make some armor sets, but it's so confusing, at least to me. I made an armor request a while back that got a few views and then ended up buried on page 20 by now lol.. which is fine, I understand.. maybe ppl weren't interested, thought it was not very lore friendly, but it was nice (I thought) and feminine without looking like my char wanted to pose for a centerfold. Caliente does a good job with some of the vanilla armors, making them adaptable to the body meshes.. and there is mod that changes the base iron armor to something more feminine, showing tummy and some leg without boobs hangin out all over. I just use those for now until my brain can grasp Blender.. which might not be this century. But for what it's worth to any modders out there who do know Blender/Nif.. I believe there are quite a few that are interested in this type of mod.
