I found hex values for character customization in the sav.dat - tried to change them but loading the save resulted in an instant crash. I'll just leave these findings here.

Yeah this is a potential workaround. I made two new characters, with different hairstyles, and found the 12 byte array in sav.dat where they differed (after 0x61697273). I then replaced the array in one save with the array from the other, and that save had the updated hairstyle from the other one.

Would take some time, but a mod could potentially look like an executable that modifies sav.dat, if it's hard to implement the functionality in game. Think a better solution would be to try to unlock the dev console in game, but I haven't looked in to that and don't even know if there is one.

what software did you use? I tried with notepad++ with a hex plugin, but I feel like it doesn't display things correctly. I'd love to be able to just swap appearances between 2 created characters.

  2. Okay, so I was trying to use Performance and realistic ENB:
    http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/37978/?

I re-installed skyrim, put the enb there, got it working.

I installed some mods (skyUI, Xenius, alternate start, unofficial patches) and now skyrim crashes when I try to load or start a new game.

Skyrim plays fine without the ENB on, so I'm kinda wondering that what am I doing wrong?

I read that there was some problems with AMD video cards before, and I'm using HD6870, could this be the reason?

I tried eliminating variables, re-installed Skyrim twice and installed different mod each time to see is it a compatibility problem, wasn't.

  3. This project really triggers my interest. I could even say that I'm waiting for this mod to play skyrim again.

How is it going ? How many people work on it ?

Is there a way to get involved if you don't have any modding experience (but have basic programming experience and is willing to learn) ?

If that help, I noticed a similar mod on the steam workshop called "Improved Thieves Guild"

I love to see that you registered here just to write this!

Well, it's not going at all. I'm still interested in making this, but I mostly just need someone to kick my butt every now and then.

I'm trying to recruit people from school to join me, since we're all studying to apply in game industry.

And sure, if you're still around here. You could try messing around in Creation kit and see for yourself.

If you have basic programming skills, you'll probably figure out pretty fast what to do.

Yeah, I checked that mod, seems like it was last updated almost two years ago, so, fat chances with that :s

And since couple people have already contacted me about this, I'll be continuing this again, for a while at least!

  4. If you need anyone to do some writing, story planning, and basic dialogue (admittedly my Papyrus skills aren't so hot-- I'm learning-- but I can do simple dialogue and quests easily enough), I'd be happy to help. I would really like to do more with the Thieves Guild! (Other than, you know... steal everyone's jeweled pitchers, jeweled candlesticks, and ornate drinking horns.)

Well, ideas are of course welcome, but I'm not planning on writing any story for this. Just extending the business like a proper crime organization should! If you believe you're able to do any of those things on the features list, your help will be more than welcome! I might be wrong, but I do believe that most of the stuff I'm looking for is already in vanilla, they just might require some little tweaking. I don't think you'll have to actually write scripts from scratch :)

  5. Mmm.. Interesting, somewhat "simple" but efficient idea.

Thief attacks were something I loved. It made the thieves guild feel alive, despite the fact that all thieves guild members just sit inside their tavern and drink mead.

I love the idea, support it and hope that you are able to find some skilled people to work with!

I was actually really suprised that someone hadn't done this yet! ..Because, like you said, it's "simple" :D

It's silly how thieves guild is the biggest criminal organization and all they do is drink in Riften, hopefully we'll get to change that!

    Thanks for the support!

Thieves Guild - Extended Business, a work in progress to extend the business of thieves in the land of Skyrim.

Point would be to add an outpost in every major city, and maybe, smaller outposts in Falkreath, Dawnstar, Winterhold and Raven Rock.

I started working on this yesterday, and so far I've made the thieves guild outpost for Whiterun.

I tried to look for tutorials for quest making and dialogue options, but my brain says "NOPE" so I decided to turn away from that and focus purely on creating the areas.

SO, now I would require someone to help me with quests, dialogue options and other features.

So, I'll be starting this again, from scratch.
First I'll create some interiors, see if more people will get excited and maybe help me with this.

Then, the work on NPC behaviour and such will start.

The things I'd hope to get in the mod would be:

    How to Extend the Business:

Whiterun: You would receive a note from Mallus Maccius after "Dampened Spirits" quest, telling that he's found a perfect place for a guild outpost in Whiterun.

Solitude: ONLY if you leave Gulum-Ei alive, You would receive a note from him after "Speaking with Silence" quest, telling that he's found a perfect place in Solitude.

Markath: Endon will send you a note after "Silver Linings" quest.

Windhelm: After completing "Summerset Shadows" you would receive a note from Niranye.
Raven Rock: After recovering the bonemold formula for Glover Mallory, you'd receive a note from him.

    Features:

    • The outposts would be empty at first, and you could buy an upgrade from the local fence to get it up and running, after receiving the note.
    • Local fence visiting the outpost for a period of time every day (Mallus, Gulum-ei, niranye etc.)
    • Other local thieves guild faction members hanging in the outpost.
    • Other members of the thieves guild visiting the outposts from time to time (Vex, Delvin, Dirge etc.)
    • Member of khajit caravan whenever they're in the specific town.
    • Corrupt guard to guard the door and you could also pay your bounty.
    • Thief attacks on all the other cities too, thief would also hang in the outpost.
    • Quest to collect (mostly steal) some parts of some artifact.
    • More unique items to steal.

IF YOU HAVE THE REQUIRED SKILLS AND SOME EXTRA TIME, PM ME!

  7. Hi!

So, this is my first post and I've no idea is this possible.

I was wondering has anyone thought or tried to make this mod?

What I had in mind was that when someone shoots an arrow at you, you could just quickly shout Fus,

and the arrow would act the same way as hitting a wall, losing it's momentum.

Would bring huge amount of awesomeness and a bit more physics realism to the game!

Other thoughts; I was wondering has anyone started working on werecroc mod for argonians?

    Thanks!

    Shawn
