Great article !! can relate, My early experience was in unreal tournament but i remember successfully loading my first mod and then thinking ........if i can do this then what else can i do? then along came fo3 and modding really took off for me :) i think personally modding is far more about personal choice than "cheating" and totally agree with your lockpicking woes! whatever your view though .....modding is still the ONLY way to have a truly unique game and also extends that games life :)
