  1. Hmm, I am level 55, beat the main quest long ago, and only have killed like 35 dragons in 200 hours. They are not rare, but then again, I dont think they are very frequent either. I am trying to build a set of dragonscale armor. Maybe send you extra dragons to me? I serisouly dont see how they plague you, its not like they are Cliff Racers or anything. Maybe your install randomly spawns a lot more dragons than mine, but for me, their appearance is quite well balanced.
  2. Yeah, it didnt fix my bookshelf in Solitude (third floor bedroom). But it did fix backwards flying dragon, and they dont even list that on the release notes!
  3. Happened to me too, I just changed my steam server from NY to Boston, and Skyrim launched immediately. Try switching to the next closest server to you.
  4. I lost her in a fort somehere, played probably another 50 hours since then, and she hasnt come back home. I've written her off for dead.
  5. Sounds like overheating to me. You want a getto fix that is cheap and works, and can disprove/prove heat is the cause? Take off a sidepannel and put some cheap house fan ($10.00-$15.00) blowing directly at the MB/CPU on a low setting, so the noise doesnt bother you. Play the game for a few hours. No crash = heat was your problem = problem solved. OLD crappy XP machines here at work need to operate in nasty, dusty, hot environment as a front end of some large machines in production, and this fan trick always fixes the unknown and weird lock/crash on these machines, at least until we get a permanant fix in place. Heat causes all kinds of issues to crop up when you are running the PC at it's limit. Hope this helps.
  6. When I hit the limit on the bookshelf, it tells me I cant store anymore, and then all my books disappear. Did that a few times before I figured it otu. Ohh well, at least its just books....
  7. yup, happens here too, like once a day or so. But still love the game, and I can deal with it.
  8. Exactly what I was going to ask. I love it.
  9. Sorry for really dumb question, but how does a PC user see what verison they are currently running? In game press the esc button to bring up the menu and at the bottom left of the menu it shows the version # that you are runnning Thanks for fast reply!
  10. Sorry for really dumb question, but how does a PC user see what verison they are currently running?
  11. Yes, Skyrim told me I was being set on "Ultra High", which was a little bit of a shock, since my ATI FirePro sits at about the recommended level and not way above it like some cards. Game looks great to me, with no tweaks. I am particularly amazed at how good fire looks, specifically the way stuff looks through fire (like the wall being a fire). This is what I got: Windows 7 64 bit 12 GB Ram Ati FirePro V5900 2Gb ram WD 7200 rpm HardDrive, raid 1 (yes, raid 1, I want to protect my data). No delays in loading screens or anything. Intel Xeon W3565 (quad core @ 3.2) only problem I found with UI: I switched "E" to be jump, and spacebar to be open/activate. Now anything that requires "E" does not work other than jump. For instance, reading a book, or selling or buying items. I have to use the mouse and ENTER. Maybe I just need to play around with the settings more.... Also, Skyrim with the above hardware, I have crashed to desktop twice (2) in 10 hours. Love the game.
  12. In 10 hours of playing, I have Crashed to Desktop twice. Alas, I have no fix for you (or me).
  13. My sons and I had a good time in line last night. Probably 300 people, and that was just one of the several Gamestops in the general area, plus other places. I was suprised by the number of people, I guess that was silly, this game rocks! People in line were many different ages, everyone was in a good mood, happy, joking, etc. Lots of young punk kids too, which is something I used to be (ahh, the good old days). That was also a pleasant surprise, since I thought kids only played FPS nowadays. Glad to see this game can please all walks of life. Have fun playing!
  14. That it wasnt as fun/good as Morrowind.
  15. You guys are funny. Could you maybe do both, I dont think someone is going to force you to do one or the other. Add ram/change GPU AND update your BIOS. Did I ever say updating BIOS would help performance? p.s. Updating your BIOS is free.
  16. Hence I said it is rediculously easy if you have a dell pc. There is no downside, even if you perceive little upside. I maintain 50 Dell Precisions, and regularly update BIOS, in 8 years, never had a single bad flash. But, again, Dell make it easy, and not all vendors do this, and like you are saying it can be more hassle than its worth for if you have built your own machine, or your motherboard manufacturer does not wrap the firmware in an .exe like Dell does. Some Bios updates are critical, and fix issues / prevent issues from cropping up down the line. It's not about a performance increase, its about trying to prevent issues when you are placing your PC under max load (aka Playing Skyrim). It's also just a practical matter to stay current with patches of all kinds, hardware firmware, OS patches, etc. even if they dont directly impact Skyrim. For instance, people here may want to check out secunia PSI to see if they have all third-party security patches installed, if for no other reason (1) to be safe online (2) to do something with your PC while you twiddle your thumbs and wait for the game to be released. secunia
  17. Absolute best place to find detailed info on Intel proc is...drumroll....Intel. Here is your specific CPU, which lists cores, and also, you can type in any other CPU to see details, plus you can compare CPU others easily. Intel CPU You've got 4 cores, and a very nice CPU to boot! Generic Intel CPU link
  18. I love that everyone mentions the capacity of the harddrive, and not the speed or cache. :-P If are not sure what you have for hardware can download CPU-Z. If you have windows7, you can also type in "system information" at the start menu, and hit enter. That launches a little app that gives you basic hardware info, more so than just device manager. People should spend a little time before game release and get the latest firmware releases. If you have a Dell pc, its rediculously easy to update your BIOS firmware. Just type in your service tag number, and download a exe. If if you dont bother too look if you need it (by restarting your PC), you can download it, run it, and it will tell you your current bios version, and then optionally cancel out. Dell also will list various other updates/firmware that apply to your specific model and OS. I assume other large PC vendors make it easy too. dell updates If you are doing a clean install of windows, most definately install 64bit, there is no reason to opt for 32 bit. For those unsure about if they can handle Skryim, I would say dont spend money now (unless you have a lot of it), and just see how it goes on release day. If you find the game is unplayable, order a new graphics card then. No sense tossing an acceptable card now on a whim that it might not be good enough.
  19. Did anyone catch that this preview was run on a maxed out PC? Happy I made my work buy me a new PC.
  20. RAGE system requirements Could the recently released system requirements and recommendations hint at what Skyrim will need? Also, it's about a month to go before RAGE (a game I have ZERO interest in) is released, but I think think that means around 10/11/11, we will probably see Skyrim requirements released. So Rage requires 2 cores, but recommends 4, I guess that means it is multithreaded to some degree, so I image Skyrim would too. Total speculation on my part.
  21. Make sure you do Win7 64 bit, so when you want to jump to 6 or 8GB ram, you dont have wipe out the system. At this point, there really is no reason to ever install a 32 bit OS. A 1Tb HD is not much more than a 500GB, so you might think about that too.
  22. Seems like old footage re-cut in a different order to me...
  23. Have we seen this Cheng interview yet? another Cheng interview Also, it would seem that Gamespot spelled his name wrong... "Ashely Chang" ?
