  1. I like the fact how people used to say, "Skyrim is Oblivion 2.0," but in reality it is Morrowind 2.0 seasoned with a little Oblivion. If you go back and play MW then play Oblivion, then Skyrim, you will see what I mean. Others can say the same - I went to Markarth and was immediately hit in the face with Morrowind as it would be today.

Oblivion has it good point, be it few; yet Skyrim, as a Beth tradition, has new stuff that expanded on Oblivion. Dual wield and magic! This is why I love Beth and the Elder Scrolls series, every game is improved upon the other.

Actually, Daggerfall had all of these features, plus climbing, plus advanced fast travel. It seems like Oblivion and Morrowind both cut features from Daggerfall, and now Skyrim has gone back and reclaimed some of them. (Not all.)

Of course, Skyrim isn't as deep in customization, and dungeons are way smaller.

On the other hand, Daggerfall has very poor graphics, and the execution of its mechanics were very sloppy by today's standards. So really, I prefer Skyrim over any other E.S game. Then again, if I'd known about Daggerfall when it was new and fancy, maybe I'd think differently.

  2. Dark Souls/Demon souls suck.

i play games to relief stress not get more stress.

And you're one of the reasons gaming today is so much worse than before.

If it weren't for people like you skyrim would have a much deeper character customization ( skills/talents etc ) like the previous TES, but of course, as people are becoming more dumb, they also have to dumb down the game in a similar pace.

No matter how good a game is, people like you will always complain, half the complaints about Oblivion was 'it's not Morrowind'.

I never complained about games before. I didn't complain about morrowind or oblivion neither.

It's still a hard fact that skyrim is a dumbed down TES game.

First off, improper use of the word 'neither'. I don't like being THAT guy, but that is one word i cannot stand out of its appropriate context.

Second, 'dumbed down' and 'simplified' are two different things. Shrodinger's Cat is a dumbed down version of Quantum Relativity. Skyrim is a simplified version of the TES dynamic.

Dumbing down changes the nature of the concept in order to allow someone to get a basic understanding of it, but still leave them without actually knowing or doing anything.

Simplification involves cutting out unnessessary bloat and rendering the idea into the most basic form possible without compromising its integrety.

Skyrim is SImplified, not Dumbed Down.

As for people argueing that Dark Souls is an alternative to Skyrim... Their idiots. Thats like saying a neolithic reed boat is an alternative to a cargo liner. Beyond the simple nature of the RPG, they are radically different games.

Radically different, yes. But I'd compare it more to the difference between a battleship and an aircraft carrier. I don't think that either Dark Soulsd or Skyrim count as a neolithic reed boat.

  3. i have bought dark souls, i started off as a knight, got killed by asylum demon like 3 times, started again as a wanderer. Killed the demon first go ROFL

Knights are considered to be an advanced class. New players who use them often die repeatedly. I'm not sure why, as knights seem to have better stats. Could you roll full speed as a knight? Their armor is quite heavy.

  4. I'm not going to lie, though, Dark Souls is crushingly difficult. I've died hundreds of times since I got it, even on low-level areas. (hint- go to the undead burg first, it's by far the easiest. Also- to kill ghosts, you must be cursed. Also- to kill skeletons and keep them down without needing to kick them off a cliff, used a blessed weapon.)

Even having beat Demon's Souls (I found playthrough one quite easy), Dark Souls demolished me at first.

If you get frustrated and stop playing after dieing a few times in any other game you play, don't buy Dark Souls. (There are no difficulty settings.)

Also, on the ps3 version, there is some lag. I can't say for the 360 version.

  5. I have Dark Souls. (I'm a Demon's Souls veteran who beat that game and got the moonlight sword, etc.) I'm still working on Dark Souls, but here's what you need to know.

Dark Souls is kinda sorta open world. Areas are fairly open, but you have a path you must take- but all the areas are connected seamlessly (no load screens) and ingeniously to one another via creative and hard-to-find shortcuts. It's not as open as Skyrim, but it is big, and there are many set pieces. So, while linear at first, in time, Dark Souls opens up to be open world as you unlock shortcuts.

Dark Souls has a lot of good loot. There's maybe one set of armor I found that I don't like. Unlike a lot of RPGs, where the armor is easy to find, each armor in very hard to find in Skyrim, sometimes requiring you to beat a boss or complete several areas to get the right keys, and sometimes hidden inside secret rooms. This means it's hard to replace your equipment, but when you find something, it feels like a big accomplishment. And, since there is online, leet loot can be shown off to others.

Third, there are hidden areas everywhere, and they require a lot of climbing, jumping, rolling, and very good eyesight to spot. It's always very exciting to find a hidden areas too, because most equipment in Dark Souls doesn't appear in more than one place in the game. Every time you find a secret place, you are rewarded well. For example, in your home base, there is a giant ruin with a giant crow and its nest at the top of said ruin. If you jump off an elevator halfway up and walk very carefully across scaffolding, etc, you can get to the top of the ruin. If you lay down in the nest, the Raven carries you to new areas.

Fourth, Dark Souls has online. You can summon others into your world at any time to help you, but other people can invade your world. (rare, so not really annoying.) Or, you can place your "soul sign", to be summoned into another persons world. If you die helping someone else, you can only profit- you can not lose anything. Also, there are covenants in Dark Souls, run by NPCs. If you join a covenant, you get unique and awesome rewards, such as exclusive weapons or a coccon on your head from which maggots can burst to attack your enemies. Each reward is optional, however, and is unique to the covenant. Joining a covenant also tweaks gameplay. For example, joining the n00b covenenant will make you less likely to be invaded by enemy players, and more likely to be offered help from allies.

Fifth, Dark Souls has amazing combat. You have a whole variety of combo moves to use to fight enemies, and what they are changes according to your weapon type. However, they are realistic- not over the top. Whether that's good or bad depends on your preference. I prefer realism, so it's good for me.- You also have a variety of counter and dodge moves. All of your moves, offensive or defensive, are hard to time correctly, so skill is a big part of Dark Souls. (But leveling is definitely a factor as well.)

Sixth, Dark Souls does not tell you what to do. It makes in-depth exploration (or checking the wikis) a must, as many areas are completely optional.

  6. I agree that re-animating corpses could be even more ethical in times of war than sending living soldiers to do a job. If you have the capability to use the dead, why risk the living?

My most evil deed took place in Windhelm. I tracked down the guy who wanders around the Gray-Quarter, shouting insults at dark elves, and I shot him in the back of the head with an arrow. Sadly, he was essential, so he got back up- but since it was a one-shot kill, he didn't see me.

I followed him around for a full in-game day (timescale of 5), and sniped him over and over every time he stood up, delighting in his screams of agony. I never got caught. :ninja:

Strangely enough, I'm not in the dark brotherhood.

Oh, also, I found some wounded stormcloaks in a fortified camp. I walked in, murdered the injured men with a dagger, then walked out. I heard screams of terror and shock behind me as the bodies were discovered, but I just kept walking. (I'm siding with the Imperials, by the way.)

  7. Women would not be equal in skyrim for the same reason women can't be superheros.

Women do not have the physical structure to resist a sledgehammer to the face or throw a car over their head. Only men could train to that level if it possible. Fantasy lets you play with the laws of physics but the natural law of biology is incontrovertible.

Men can't take a sledgehammer to the face either.

  8. This topic shifted completely. It began as a lore topic, step by sexist topics. Even Robynah use this intelligent comment, which made me very angry:

"And Male RPGs are too. In real life stats We have decided how much money That (exp) we make in life; These stats are: height (men Have more), testosterone (men Have more), lean muscle mass (men Have more), aggression (men Have more) and beching weight. Everyone knows from highschool These stats except for Themselves in europe, asia, africa, south america, Australia Where There are not Any real men. " << that's completely offensive.

then show me how it behaves a real man because many of us live in one of those countries.

but I will not talk about it, women can suffer / bear things that men don't, and vicebersa.

The game was initially created with orientation to male audience, but doesn't discriminate against women.

in Tamriel's history there were many important women, and in any case the best thing you can do when you don't like something, change it.

Yep, I found Robynah to be offensive as well, and I'm not even one of the criticized groups. I almost went on a hate rant against him, but I restrained myself.

  9. I'm going to post some odd choices here. . .

First is Brelyna Maryon, the Dark Elf mage from the College of winterhold. She's both a follower and a potential wife, meaning that she has the options of both, which greatly expands her usefullness. Plus, her quest- where she ends up turning you (accidentally) into a variety of animals is hilarious due to the shock factor. Then, her personality is well done for what few lines of dialogue she has. She's somewhat introverted, and can seem cold at first. She's one of the few Dunmer in the College due to the red mountain's explosion. She's sick of the expectations placed on her by her family, which I could really relate with, she's skilled in combat, and she has a few humorous lines of dialogue relating to Morrowind.

My second choice is Balgruuf the Greater, the Jarl of Whiterun. His dialogue really sells the story on the war between the Imperials and Stormcloaks. He's undecided about who he will side with, and has some good lines during which he basically says that he understands both sides, and doesn't know which faction he'll help when the time comes. He's hoping that he never has to choose one of the two halves of his kingdom over the other. To me, that really exemplified the entire war.

  10. Just to throw my two cents in here, can someone eventually also include better sleeping in this mod? For example, when I sleep in my house with my wife, I'd like to wake up and have her physically laying in the bed with me. The "lover's comfort" affect makes more sense that way.
  11. Can't you just use the console command "removeallitems" (without the " "), so it would look like removeallitems

Then you can just go and give the npc what you want them to have. You have to click on the npc that you want to alter, and some npcs' gear respawns. However, generally, I find that it works.

Ooops, my bad. Someone already posted this.

  12. I've had few issues. The game crashes for me, but only rarely. Sometimes it's bad and only takes a few minutes before it shuts down my entire rig, but most of the time, I can play for hours without so much as a framerate hiccup. I hope that Bethesda releases a good patch to stop the crashes, but I'm happy in the mean time.
  13. Ha ha, that's awesome! Not for you, I guess, but I love how deep Bethesda made this game. Now if they can just get the glitches and patch worked out. . .

Anyway, I married Brelyna Maryon. So far, she's been completely faithful. I've got my eye on J'Zhargo, though. Dirty Khajiit. . .

  14. As the title said, I turned my HUD opacity to 0. I also don't fast-travel or look at any map other than my paper one. I know- it sounds bad. I thought I wouldn't like it. I can't see my hp or mana now, which is a little annoying, yet. . . I have to say I prefer it this way.

I pay a lot more attention to the scenery and npcs now. Instead of drifting through the landscape towards the little arrow, I actually use sign posts, roads, and landmarks now. To figure out what to do for quests, I listen to people, read books, explore, and ask around. Before, I was never really interested in what NPCs had to say. Now, I am. I find myself picking up on hints in books or rumor dialogue and going to the College of Winterhold's library, or my personal library, for research.

Want to find a dwemer ruin? Instead of running through fields and bumping into trees blindly and emotionlessly, or simply teleporting, I can now have a real adventure with my allies. Every side quest seems more epic. I use my brain to track things down. Sure, it takes a long time- but I find the hunt for my objectives entertaining. There are detective mechanics I never noticed before.

I plan on downloading required eating and sleeping mods, weather affect mods, darker nights and dungeon mods, expanded dialogue, and other realism mods as soon as they are available.

You'd be amazed at how much more different and real the game feels. I advise every one to try it, at least once. This level of realism isn't right for everyone, but you'll never know unless you give it a shot.

  15. I'm a mage, and no, I don't think that spells are OP. They certainly work well in some situations, though. For example, spells work amazingly well for dragons, because you can take cover when you fight them, and summoning atronachs draw their attacks away from you. I would imagine this would also work for archers, but I haven't tried it. Obviously, this benefit is lessened if you fight multiple enemies.

However, on Adept difficulty, I've been two-hitted by even non-boss melee fighters. Not the basic kinds, but named ones or unnamed, more powerful variants such as Forsworn Foragers. If my stamina is low, they can also one-hit execute me very easily. Most wildlife (bears, sabre-tooth tigers, trolls, frost wolves, some larger spiders) can also two-hit me, and unless I'm sprinting, they can outrun me. And when enemy mages cast wards, your spells do nothing for several casts until you can break the ward. Some mages in the game can kill me singlehandedly, to say nothing of what they can do in groups.

It's balanced though, because I don't get hit often. I can run away or heal or step back to let an ally take over for a few moments until I'm ready to fight. With good spells, I can also deal damage as massive as my enemies do. I can use summoned creatures to tank for me and heal/shield at will. Runes are especially good for keeping enemies away from me in narrow halls.

One thing to consider also is, as a mage, I have to watch three meters instead of two. (HP, Stamina, and Mana), and if any of them go down, I may easily die. (Hp=obvious. Mana=No more spells of any kind. Stamina=I can't escape the melee characters and their executions.)

I've tried using swords, and I find them to be worse against dragons and bosses, but easier when it comes to most general combat simply because I can stagger or execute people.

P.S- I haven't upgraded my health at all, so that may be the reason I die so easily.

If you want it easier, try getting a good npc follower. Many of them deal good damage, but they also tank damage and distract enemies. This is invaluable in boss fights. J'Zhargo and Brelyna are both good mages, located in the College of Winterhold. Just get in by summoning a flame atronach and do their simple, easy follower quests. Also, you could become a thane and get a housecarl. Illia the witch is another powerful mage. I've heard Sven glitches often, but he's also pretty good.

  16. Oh, one more I forgot. After the random man in Solitude got his head chopped off, I used the ressurect command on him. His head re-appeared on his neck. He was dumbfounded for a moment "Waa. . ." I think it was a dialogue glitch, but maybe not. Either way, it was funy, given the circumstances.

Anyway, then I stared awkwardly at him for a few moments. He started to say a rumor, then I used the kill command to re-kill him.

  17. When I first met Brelyna Maryon, I accepted her quest and allowed her to test spells on me. (Possible Minor Spoilers Ahead) She made some mistakes, and I ended up turning into a horse, cow, chicken, and dog (maybe others) before she got the mess sorted out. I was laughing so hard. . . it was just so unexpected. I was used to the repetition of Oblivion, so you can imagine my surprise when something unique like that happens about ten minutes into the College of Winterhold quest line.
  18. I never log into Steam. So maybe I won't get it. Hopefully everything gets straightened out by the time the patch comes out.

I'm surprised there aren't any news articles about this.

All the other old articles got nuked. I saw a few go down. I'm not sure why they were taken down. Maybe Bethesda or Steam are trying to cover up how much damage they caused.

  19. I backed up my TESV.exe before applying the patch, it's now back in game folder with the 4GB patch applied, Steam will be going into offline mode now.

I'm lucky. As I got internet only rarely when I first bought Skyrim (when I felt like lugging my huge pc all the way to my basement for a wired connection by the router), I downloaded Skyrim from the disk instead of Steam and started Steam only in offline mode. It was a pain at the time, but now It's allowed me to avoid updating my game with the patch. I'll download a patch evenutally- I'm sure that future mods will require it. (simply because most people who would download mods have the patch) But I'll be waiting until the issues are worked out.
