  1. Okay, I'm assuming you are no longer having CTD issues, correct? Some general questions... What graphics card are you using and what settings are you playing at? Screen resolution, video memory, ini settings? All of these will affect how it looks, but you know that. Of course, you know there are some very excellent 'tutorials' out there for tweaking video settings as well. Even with a high-end machine and a high-end video card, I've had to back off some settings for the game to get things looking good all the time. Little stuff like screen tearing, blurring and loss of environmental details in the distance are all problems I've run into. See this link: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3880325-video-ripping-loss-of-environmental-video-elements/?p=35363385 Too many mods. too many objects built in the same areas, all affect the video rendering. This is an area that I'm as clueless as most for fixing. Hope someone jumps in here and helps you. Good luck on your troubleshooting.
  2. Okay, need a little more information.... First and most obvious question; Did you check your load order and adjust as recommended by the mod authors? Second, have you installed, or uninstalled any mods lately? Mods will sometimes overwrite existing mod files and when you uninstall, the original mod files will not be replaced. This is a common cause of CTD in the workshop menu. Third, are all of your mods up-to-date and using the correct patch for Settlement Keywords? Try this little troubleshooting flow chart.... 1) If you launch your saved game, with ALL of your mods disabled, does the STORE menu show up in the Workshop build main menu? If yes, next. If no, reinstall. DO NOT SAVE. Exit the game. 2) Enable Settlement Keywords. Check if the STORE menu is present under the RESOURCES menu. If yes, next. If no, reinstall Settlement Keywords and repeat this step. If no again, make sure there are no other mods enabled. Redownload SK reinstall. if no a third time. reinstall the game. DO NOT SAVE. Exit the game. 3) Enable Homemaker and its patches for SK. Again check if the STORE menu is present in the RESOURCES menu. If yes, continue to re-enable your mods one at a time. If no, reinstall Homemaker. DO NOT SAVE. Exit the game. Repeat this step until the problem occurs. 4) Once you have identified the offending mod(s), leave it(them) disabled and continue to re-enable your mods one at a time. If the problem appears again, then yes, it may be a keyword issue and you'll need to remove some mods or consider compiling several mods into a single mod (all SK patches into a single master patch for example. Not for the faint of heart) If the problem does not reoccur, next. DO NOT SAVE. Exit the game. 5) If you finish enabling all your mods, and only one is causing the problem, try reinstalling that mod, and/or changing the load order until the problem goes away. If there are multiple mods causing issues, take a hard look at load order. Try disabling other mods that use keywords, re-enabling the 'offending' mods and see if the problem persists. This is another way of checking for a keyword problem. Even one keyword over the limit can cause strange issues within the game. Good luck. PS: Think about providing a load order list in future posts. It helps in identifying problems.
  3. "I never said you're instructions were incorrect," So what does this mean? "but you are actually giving some uninformed advice." And then you say this; "you don't even cover correct load order or getting around the keyword limit" Based on my experience, load order and keyword limits very rarely, if ever, cause CTD. Now, you tell me who is "Uninformed"? Most, if not the vast majority of CTDs are caused by the interaction, or lack thereof, of mods and required files, specifically in the workshop menus. Many people who actually play the game try out new mods all the time, installing and uninstalling those same mods. Many people try out new loaders and .ini editors to see if they are better or worse than what they are using. Many of those same loaders and .ini editors are junk and do more damage than they fix, so, based on those observations checking your .ini files, disabling and reenabling mods is the prudent troubleshooting method to be used to troubleshoot CTD problems. If, and I do state this, if nothing else works, deleting all your mods, cleaning the /DATA/ directory out and then making a copy before reloading your mods is the last resort. If you think this is too much work for players, you need to go read more posts in this forum and on the modders pages. The number of times I see "I deleted and reinstalled the game and now everything works" comments are too many to be counted. If you believe that it's too much for someone to add and delete mods, or to check .ini files for proper editing, then they probably should not be modding their game. If you can find ONE legitimate mod author who disagrees with this, I'll delete all my post and my account and never show up in these forums again. And yes, I do get defensive when dealing with stupid. As for being an a$$, it's my life's work, so deal with it.
  4. Don't even know if this is possible within the confines of the game engine, but a snap-to grid system for the placement of items on surfaces, specifically, for example, lights to a ceiling. If you look at the shots below, it's almost impossible to get those lights to line up properly. If there was a system to center objects on ceilings and walls.... http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l558/Sandcrab2000/ScreenShot23_zpszr5glpqm.png http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l558/Sandcrab2000/ScreenShot28_zpsmiidmppa.png
  5. Okay, For me, Fallout 4 is digital Legos. Okay, the story is good, the quest entertaining, and the killing is fun. But... I like to build. My favorite building materials are the Institute pieces. They are clean, modern and just look good. But... With that said, there are just too few choices for interior design. There are only two(?) interior doorways skinned in Institute for example. With DDProductios83's mods and the mods to those mods by Siles for elevators and bridges, worlds opened up for even more creative creations. But... Having ZERO artistic talent for reskinning items, can someone come up with; Fully snappable Institute skinned interior walls, doorways, and thresholds. There is one really nice dark wood paneling wall, see the third screenshot, expand upon that to doorways and windows. Wood on one side, Institute on the other to use as exterior walls and windows. Institute skinned ramps (DDProduction83 ramps). Institute skinned everything!!!!! Here are some screen shots to give you an idea of the things I've done. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l558/Sandcrab2000/Highrise2_zpsq1uwebuv.png Exterior of my Higrise.... http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l558/Sandcrab2000/highrise_zpssjbsu4j8.png Exterior of my high rise. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l558/Sandcrab2000/ScreenShot19_zpsoyrmdhuo.png Setting up my bedroom... http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l558/Sandcrab2000/ScreenShot30_zpsa0v7ixyj.png Preston sleeping in my bed. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l558/Sandcrab2000/ScreenShot31_zps7evipcqu.png My hangar for my VirtBirds.
  6. The For most people it isn't necessary to uninstall and re-install everything. That is way too much work when simply correcting their load order and/or deleting a .swf file will fix the problem for them. We are talking about the PC version of the game, right? I'm referring to .esp and .esm files. There are no .swf files in the PC version. Since we're on the Nexus site, it should be understood we are talking about the PC version. Read the thread I linked. Modded Workshop.swf file and Workshopmenu.swf files can cause CTDs with 1.4. It is nice that you are trying to help, but you are actually giving some uninformed advice. You really should read Wax2k's guide to understand some of the workshp issues a little better. 1) The thread you linked is about useless if you are not using a workshop.wsf or workshopmenu.swf in the interface folder. Does anyone even use these anymore? 2) Go look up 'sarcasm' in the dictionary. 3) What do you consider "uninformed advice"? Anything that is not coming from you? Every item I covered in the linked post is relevant and spot on for troubleshooting CTD issues. Every Item in the linked post are items I have troubleshot on my game, and friends games. Every Item I talked about in the link I posted is talked about in these forums and elsewhere. You jumped upon deleting and reinstalling, as noted in the post, this is the last resort. I challenge you to point out one item I mentioned in the linked post that is incorrect in context. I am a Fallout 4 player. I am a Fallout 4 mod user. I am a Fallout 4 mod creator. I do not publish my mods here because I use others work and modify it for my own use. I will never take credit for others work. My modding has led to combining several hundred mods to overcome the FormID and Keyword limitations and has become an art. Every one of the issues I touched upon is a common problem modders run into when creating and editing mods. Here is the link I posted for troubleshooting CTD issues. Please try re-reading. http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3891290-ctds-since-14-update/?p=35480305 Sandcrab

  9. Crash to Desktop (CTD) will ocure when accessing the Workshop because a file is missing or corrupted. If you have disabled or deleted a mod that overwrote a file used by another mod, the game will CTD. NMM I have found, is notorious for this. There are two solutions: 1) Disable all your mods, and re-enable them one at a time, checking if the problem has returned. Last mod enabled when it CTDs, is the culprit. You may find that the problem disappears because NMM essentually reinstalls the mod when you re-enable it. 2) Delete all your mods and reload from scratch. Again, check after each mod to ensure the problem doesn't reocure. Here are some more CTD troubleshooting tips: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3891290-ctds-since-14-update/?p=35480305 Hope this helps, Sandcrab
  10. Step 1) Learn proper use of English grammar and punctuation. I've got a headache from trying to read your initial post. Step 2) Are we talking about the console version of the game? Yes, it looks like you are.... You shouldn't need to reinstall the game. I'm not familiar with the console version of the game, but I assume that there is a mod loader and enabler/disabler? If so, go back to a non-modded version, and try re-enabling the mods one at a time until the problem occurs. Do you modify ini files on the console version of the game? If so, look at the ini or configuration files and make sure they have not been changed. Wish I knew more about the console version to be useful in helping you. Sorry.
  11. CTD when opening the Workshop is caused by a missing or corrupted file in the /DATA/ directory. This usually happens when you disable a mod or delete a mod that overwrote a file installed by another mod. NMM I found is notorious for this. Two ways to troubleshoot this: 1) Disable all your mods, then re-enable one at a time until the CTD occurs. The last mod is the culprit. Redownload and reinstall. 2) Delete them all and start over. 12. Check your load order and SK patches. Homemaker and Settlement Keywords don't play nice all the time, even with the SK patches. Make sure that HM, SK, and the SnB's mods and patches are all up-to-date. Check the mod author's sites for these three for the recommended patch usage and version compatability. Another HUGE problem with FO4 that I hope is fixed when the DLC comes out. Sandcrab
  13. CTDs in the workshop are caused by missing file(s). Either a file has been removed by a disabled or deleted mod, a corrupted version of the file has been loaded, or the author of the mod made an error when pointing to a specific file used by his mod. Two solutions (if you're not the mod author); 1) Disable all your mods and reenable them one at a time to find the specific mod causing the problem. Once identified, uninstall and reinstall following the mod author's directions. 2) Delete all your mods, clean out your /DATA/ directory and reinstall the mods one at a time. I know it sucks, but this is a hugely common problem with mods, Mod Managers, and mod authors. 14. Are you using any mods that expand the build areas of your settlements? I ran into this problem using such a mod. Sandcrab

  16. I have found that CTD in game will happen under several conditions that include; 1) CTD when the game launches, 2) Crashes at a specific location in the game, 3) When opening the Workshop, 4) When accessing a specific menu or menu item in the Workshop, 5) When it feels like it. The first thing you do is making sure your three .ini files are not write protected. Seems simple but it happens. Next verify that you have all the correct edits you need for your ini files. Again, seems simple but we are human. This seems to be a common cause of problem One. Next, run the Fallout4.exe file as administrator. I have found that this has caused problems with people running the game in Win 7, 8 and especially Win 10. Easy enough, right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator". This can cause problem One and Two, sometimes. Problems three and four are very specific, there is a file missing or a mod is pointing to a wrong location for a file needed by the mod. If you're a mod creator, open your .esp or .esm and make sure all your edits are pointing to the correct file location(s) and that file(s) exists and has been installed in the correct location. If you're the gamer, disable all your mods and reenable them one at a time. What may have happened is a mod was disabled and removed a file that another mod was using as well. Happens all the time. Once you find the culprit, reinstall that mod and you are golden. If you've just installed a mod, then it may have a conflict with another mod, you may need to change the load order, or it may have overwritten a file with a corrupt version. Go back to your mod author's site and look for incompatibilities with your installed mods, look for updates to your mods, or ask in the mod author's forums about the problem, if you know it's a specific mod. Try starting a new game to test your games operation. I've seen corrupted save game files cause problems with CTD. The last solution to these problems is the most radical. Do a clean install. Uninstall the game, go back to its former location and make sure all the files are gone, all sub-directories are removed. If you kept your save games, move them to a backup directory. Now do a clean install, with all the latest patches. DO NOT INSTALL MODs YET! Make the necessary ini edits. Verify that the game is loading and you can play. Now make a copy of the /DATA/ directory and all its contents and rename it. /DATA_Bkp or whatever you call your backup files. This /DATA_Bkp is now your 'Clean Install' directory. If you ever feel the need to do another clean install, just delete the contents of the existing /DATA directory and copy all the files back into it from the data backup directory. Now you can install your mods. Do them one at a time, and verify that the game loads and operates as expected. Lastly, move your save game file(s) back into the save game directory and try them. I've seen corrupted save game files cause crash problems. This list and these solutions are not all inclusive. These are just the most common I have found. Good luck troubleshooting! Sandcrab
  17. I've had this problem as well, the consistent CTD at various locations. The only solution I had was to do a clean install of the game and all the patches, updated all my mods and crossed my fingers. So far, so good. Not sure what caused the problem, but it's fixed now. (crossing fingers) I will make this recommendation. Once you have done a CLEAN install (uninstalled, deleted all left behind files and sub-directories) copy and rename the \DATA\ folder and place it and its contents in a safe location. Now if you need to do another clean install, just delete the old data folder, and copy the backup into its place, rename it back to DATA and you're good to go. If the problem persists, you may have a corrupted save game file. Not much you can do there but delete the save games and start over. Hope this helps. Sandcrab
  18. So nobody else is experiencing this problem or similar problems? Someone out there has got to have a clue what is going on. Help, please.
  19. Okay, so I've built a huge settlement at Sanctuary and everything is going well until I get this really bad screen issues (see pics below). It's so bad that I can't finish creating my 'masterpiece'. As you can see, everything disappears, not just what I've built, but some of the environment elements around it as well. It's worse when I look back upon my creations and doesn't seem to be evident outside of Sanctuary (It's the only place where I've built). System Specs: Win 10 Pro x64 Intel Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz 32.0 GB Memory nVidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti w/6 GB memory All Motherboard and video drivers have been updated to the latest versions. I've done a slick and clean install of FO4 with the latest patches and the problem persists. Installed mods include, SK v0.8, Homemaker v1.33, Spring Clean, Alternate Settlements, RedRocket Expanded Area, Sanctuary Expanded, most all the DDP mods, Easy Hacking, Easy Lockpicking, Snap'n'Build full version, Touch of Green, Trees Have Colorful Leaves to name a few. Fallout 4 is digital Legos for me. I love to build and experiment with mods. Please, I've tried every 'anti-ripping' fix out there and I can't seem to get this fixed.
